I think "is forbidden for the gander" was supposed to mean " by the gander." That's the only thing I can think of, aside from a writer's blunder. What a difference a preposition makes, eh? That would make so much more sense! However, my copy of the script, which I'm pretty sure is not a final copy, does read " for the gander"...I wonder if diane and lin's copies are the same??? Yes, jen, my copy is the same. I think the writer's just got it wrong because you are right, it really doesn't make sense.

Not to put too fine a point on it, ladies, but I was saying the "for" may have been intentional, meant to be interpreted as "by." Because using "for" both times could have been in the interest of cohesion. Also, IMO, "for the gander...for the goose" just doesn't flow as well as the way it was written. OK, that brings tonight's Grammar in Screen Writing seminar to an end .

I think what the writers meant when writing that line was that- what Maddie was trying to convey to David that she felt that in his eyes it was ok- `good` for the employees (ie) the goose to do certain things but not -`forbidden` for the gander (ie) the boss . Instead of the usual saying Glenn just turned it on its head so i don`t think it was a type error just Glenn being his clever self.

Today I watched again BLONDE ON BLONDE and first time I realized how much music from the end when David walks away after meeting Sam sets the tone for how much it hurts to have found Sam at the home of Maddie.

phew... I read all the comments in prep to watch this ep. But I'm not ready for all that emotional havoc... One of these days I'll take the challenge... but it already makes me sad now to think that the beginning of the Big 4 is the end of classic ML as we love it (although, IACM is a great reward for that...). I think before I start to watch the Sam arc I gotta gather a bit of strength... will watch MFD now.

The whole love triangle, all the emotions, and then finally IACM zum Nachtisch The worst starts actually after it....and that will definitely break your heart But still there will be so many good/funny/loving moments that you'll enjoy! Promise!

Yes, goldilocks, but I think I have to watch the whole Big 4 rightaway one after the other to get soon to devour the sweet Nachtisch... And won't you please discourage me about S 4, as I've just bought it and intend to watch it!!! S 4 ends optimistically, and S 5... well, I won't watch that one; I'll just ignore everything after "Flesh". ;D

Hey, sandra, I think you have to watch season 5 too, I know that there is She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and the awful ending, but there are some wonderful moments too. I think that if you could watch season 4, you'll have the strength to watch season 5 too.

Sandra - If I could go back and watch it all again - and then wipe my memory of the end clean - I would stop at 'Perfetc'. I used to say I would stop at 'And The Flesh Was Made Word', but there are some nice moments in season 5 that I wouldn't have wanted to miss. Both episodes leave us with a lot of hope.
Not to say Lunar Eclipse completely closes the door on them as a couple - it doesn't. The ending wouldn't have been near as bad had it not been for the character assassination of David Addison and schizophrenia of Maddie Hayes in the last 3 episodes.
I am currently having to hold and comfort a poor Twitter friend through this realization of the ending on a daily basis. I hate to see someone suffer as I did. I feel so sad for her.

It's done... First of all, gotta say what we all remarked already many, many times - isn't it amazing how a TV show is able to inspire, hook and shake us after more than 25 years?! I'm still devastated, even though I knew it was coming in the end. :'(OK, OK - I'll pull myself together. So. Maddie. What was going on in her mind? Can I understand her torment, her motivation? Yes, I think. Still, I don't fully get why she doesn't even seem to consider to push it on a higher level with David. I mean, she knows there's something between them, that they care about each other, that he would do anything for her. She feels the attraction (I mean, deep, deep, deep down...). Yes, he drives her crazy sometimes... OK, mostly all the time, but nevertheless she knows his true self beneath the flippant exterior. She knows he has thorough integrity, that when push comes to shove, she can rely on him, that when he loves someone he is able and willing to do everything for than someone and to put his own happiness in 2nd place... hasn't he proved a lot of times that she is that kind important to him? Oh blondie, so blind... And David? Oh, fella, you're no ways better! Yes, you know her well and feel that something's wrong. Yes, it's great you show her that you're worried when something's bothering her, that you wanna help, whatever it is. But then... she tells you how she feels, and you back off like "I don't wanna hear this!"?? Terrific. Honestly, you royally screwed it up here! Didn't you hear her? She told you, she finally admitted she is alone, a thing she's always denied! Couldn't you just interrupt her and tell her that you're alone just like her? That there's no need to be alone, for neither of you? That it's about time to stop all that foolish fooling around and get serious? And if that didn't help, why didn't you just grab her and kiss her to her senses? Or would that be off her senses? Whatever. What? You're afraid to get hurt? Now come on, you know her. She wouldn't cheat on you with a census taker or leave you for a wealthier man. Of course, it wouldn't be easy, but you wouldn't want it easy, you don't want no NSW. You want her. Boy, I'm so angry at both of them!! They're quite a couple of nincompoops! Anyway, it was clear from the beginning, that Maddie wouldn't really end up with some unknown stranger, it's simply not in her character. Tha jail scene... oh, so sweet. Donna Dixon's gorgeous, and she is David's Albert here (referring to "Wonderful Job"). So plain and heartwarmingly simple: "Does she know you love her? Tell her! Just tell her!" (she doesn't add "and everything's gonna be OK", but her tone implies that. I love her speech!) The music... great, of course. "Runaround Sue" is funny and "Since I fell for you" just breaks my heart. Damn, Sam - nothing of your friggin' beeswax to open the door of your host's house at 4:00 in the morning! And yes, yes - of course those were not raindrops.
