Maddie. What was going on in her mind? Can I understand her torment, her motivation? Yes, I think. Still, I don't fully get why she doesn't even seem to consider to push it on a higher level with David. I mean, she knows there's something between them, that they care about each other, that he would do anything for her. She feels the attraction (I mean, deep, deep, deep down...). Yes, he drives her crazy sometimes... OK, mostly all the time, but nevertheless she knows his true self beneath the flippant exterior. She knows he has thorough integrity, that when push comes to shove, she can rely on him, that when he loves someone he is able and willing to do everything for than someone and to put his own happiness in 2nd place... hasn't he proved a lot of times that she is that kind important to him? Oh blondie, so blind... Oh yes Sandra, I can really feel this too! Grrrrrrr :-) I can't help thinking I want to shake them both! Here she is with an itch that needs scratching and she heads off to have it scratched by a stranger! All this malarkey, when there is a perfectly lovely, full of integrity, deeply sexy David holding out his hand to her! I don't get why she didn't leap here. It's not like the logical side of her brain is firing on full cylinders at this point in the series anyway - she'd followed him to NYC, kissed his face off in the Xmas episode because she thought she had lost him...here is surely the next step. :-)

Great episode though - I was really shocked at the start when she's getting all frustrated and trying to get her outfit to match her restless/reckless mood- although we have seen her have her strange moments before: the bath/candles in BMOMS, the 'lying in bed naked thinking about the DJ' moment - she is a deeply sensual woman.
I think they both act their socks off in this, although kudos goes to Bruce who does run the gauntlet of emotions and even managed to get my husband to stop and watch some of this episode (lol- he was 'reading' his book but I looked up to see him absorbed in Bruce's performance ha ha). My favourite moments include his reactions to her when she tells him she wants to go home with a stranger and of course, the moment when Sham opens the door and he exudes all of that mental anguish, loss, self-reproach and a broken heart! Wow - Bruce you are my hero. Yes Sandra, they ain't no rain drops!
If only, if only...lol David hadn't been so tipped off of his balancing block in the office by her wild revelations and stayed to listen to all she had to say - he maybe could have come clean about his feelings. I know he looks like he only just realised that he's 'in love with her' in the prison cell with the 'other blonde' but that was only an accepting of it as reality - he always knew: 'I've always hated you Maddie Hayes'. However - this is a series whose life line is 'what if..' and 'sweet maybes...'
Oh David-- we love you for chasing her all over town and we are so with you when you finally decide to tell her you love her! My heart was racing as he knocked on her door at 4am, my mouth felt dry and I was as nervous as he was. How will he say it? How will she react? What will happen? Finally! (When I first saw this episode I thought Sham was someone she had just picked up in that bar- well I was quite young and didn't figure out that she would have been put off by the losers encountered at 'Metropolis'! :-))
Massively deep sigh and a whole box of tissues later: isn't that final scene excruciating? I feel sorry for Americans who had to wait more than a week to find out what happened next - at least in England we had all 4 episodes in succession! Wow- talk about a Caron cliff-hanger special. I think I was as broken hearted as he was...noooooooooooooo how could she? She must know how he feels about her! Nooooooooooooooo.
Oops - letting my emotions get in the way of logical thought here ha ha. Better stop now before this becomes an angst entry rather than a re-watching entry. Apologies :-)
Next stop: 'Sam and Dave' ...

I never understood HOW could he let her go in her state of mind? I don't question his feelings for her, I know he didn't leave her alone, he did follow her, but... the whole "chasing" scene seems like a game David plays. As if he wants to know HOW far the lady can go?! He could stop her any time: in the office, in that shop, in the bar.... but he didn't do that. (I wonder why?) And than it was just too late... it is sad

And than it was just too late... it is sad I love that I'm late to this but we're still discussing! Yey! That 'Knuckle Head' (Sandra he should indeed have had a scarlet 'K'- then at least she could have seen him coming! lol) - it was indeed like a game when he'd received all the signs that she wanted to stop playing and get serious! Instead, he carried on and it was too late :-( All he needed to do was sidle up to her in that bar: Maddie: What the hell are you doing here David? David: I was so worried about you... Maddie: Have you been following me?! David: I thought of it more as a very long game of hide n seek... Maddie: Well game over...you've found me. Now what? David: (Taken aback- again) Maddie, you're really scarin' me here. I saw you talkin' to those two knuckleheads (had to get it in Sandra) and thought that they might turn you against the entire male population! Maddie: And you showing up is going to change my opinion how?(She gives him a sarcastic smile) David, how long have you been following me? David: (Sounding sheepish) Maddie, I, you...you said all of those things in the office? Maddie: Right, and you didn't want to listen to me so you decided to follow me instead? So, I repeat, it's okay for you to go out and sleep around but it's not okay for me? Suddenly that kind of behaviour is deemed irresponsible by you, you who loses entire weekends and can't remember half of the women's name's you've slept with?! David: Maddie, I'm not saying that... Maddie: (Grabbing that coat and hat) Well David, I don't need a chaperon tonight, I'm a big girl! David: (To the audience) I know this is a serious argument but I can't leave that line alone! That you are Maddie... Maddie: (Hits him out of habit) David! David: Just sit, sit and listen to me for just one moment will ya? (She is stunned into sitting again). Now I got your attention blondie...for the record, I'm not judging your behaviour. You wanna know why I'm upset? You really wanna know why? Maddie: Yes David, I wanna know and I also wanna know why it's so important that you followed me half way across town. David: I don't wanna see you with one of these clowns Maddie - you, you're so much better than this! This isn't you. (She goes to interject but he interrupts just in time - for a change) I have so much respect for you, so much more than I have for myself...I do this (he motions around the bar) because I can't get to be with a woman like you! You're amazing, you're beautiful, confident, intelligent...someone a schmuck like me can only dream of being with. Maddie, I didn't wanna hear those things because I love you and every word that you said was breaking my heart. Better? :-)
