3. I posted the original script scene at David's apartment. After reading this, there are a few questions: ~ Is Bruce's performance more effective the way it was aired or would you prefer it the way it was written?
Definitely prefer the silent treatment...as others have mentioned, it puts David in the position of power, and makes Sam sound rather desperately bluster-y. And Bruce nails the combination of hurt and contempt with only three words: "You do, huh?"

~Does the scene as written change or support your original opinion about Sam? From the moment Sam doesn't 'fess up to having met David at the door, I didn't trust him (actually, I didn't trust him at the door either--who answers the door half-dressed when they're a guest in someone's home). So this version completely supports my opinion of him, and only makes it more blatant that he's not as concerned with what Maddie "wants" or "needs" as he is with winning. Sam the Sham indeed!

9. Bruce has remarked in an interview that during the final bed scene, David says, "I love you, Maddie." Big question.......can you see it? Does it make a difference to you?I can see his lips moving...but not sure. But if the man says he said it...then he said it! Does it make a difference to me? I have to jump ahead and consider their conversation the next morning at the office in "To Herr.." MAddie: Do you remember what you said to me last night? David: Yes...and I meant it. Since Bruce reveals that he did say it, but we don't hear it is first of all just cruel!! JK!! But, it does help to understand what Maddie is talking about. Would we know what she meant without Bruce's confession? Maybe...but a difference?...it would (did) to Maddie. And to me, too.

7. Regarding the deleted parts of the bar scene...do they make Maddie's dilemma any more understandable?
The extra dialogue does a lot to shine a light into Maddie's head, allowing us to hear her wrestle with the pros and cons of her dilemma. Even though we can pretty much figure it out, the actual words cement the deal.

BTW, forgot to say: diane, thanks for the great questions...and love your signature! ~How does this written scene affect your understanding of David's reaction to Maddie the next morning?Well, David would be even more upset after the written scene, I would think--and for a different reason. Sam physically threatened him, and his feelings for Maddie are clearly not selfless, to say the least. So I think David would be worried about Maddie's safety and wellbeing if she chooses Sam, in addition to being upset that she hadn't told him, and downhearted about the prospect of losing her.

10. What's your reaction every time you hear "Be My Baby"? (Do not include the current horrid use in Cialis commericals!!!)
I get hot! It's an association thing, I guess.

Yes, I can see it (or at least I believe I can see it! ;D), and yes, it does make a difference. As gray said, word and deed have now come together for these two...and it's a sweet coda to the whole arc.
And I love, love, love, how they touch foreheads...and Maddie's smile...I could (and have) watch it time and time again!

5. Agnes and Bert...aren't they the cutest ever? Why is their relationship so uncomplicated?I just love'em both!! Their relationship is uncomplicated because they aren't afraid to admit how they feel about each other. Agree, bees. There are no games, no tip-toeing around. Very sweet.

I have a question regarding the Final Facedown: how do you feel about the two slaps?

I have a question regarding the Final Facedown: how do you feel about the two slaps? DO you mean do you feel she shouldnt have slapped him? There has been some that have said their big scene at the end was too violent and not romantic. I feel the way the story played out there was no other way for them to finally get together for the first time. It escalated to that big moment.they both were holding so much inside of each other for 2 1/2 years. It was a stressful stituation for them. No one would speak up ,she wanted to hear him say those words and well she hit him, like she had done before in the past yes but it kinda made something go off in Davids head and he stops her and then the dam finally breaks and well they are so consumed by the passion they feel . I think if we were given another storyline then what we got afterwards then there could have been more romance in the bedroom. I could see David panning a romantic night for them, if they got that chance. But we never got a real relationship with them. Oh welldid i just go on and on and not make sense? LOL I think the slaps are fine they were needed in that moment, maybe to wake David up,even Maddie.

Thanks, but I am convinced that if Cybill ever DID lurk on this forum, my avatars would creep her right out of here! Good thing I didn't mention it to her then, eh? (I actually considered it because I was explaining to her what an avatar is. Phew!)

I have a couple of questions; one similar to Diane's, but from Maddie's POV.
1. Why does Maddie interrupt David's attempt to explain why they should discuss the proposal? What do you think would have followed, "Why? Why? Maddie, I..."
2. What did Maddie plan to do/hope to find in David's office before discovering the disaster within?

Thanks everyone for the great discussion! And to Diane for sharing the scripts and Great Questions! I'm feeling now this is going to be a long discussion!
I'd like to start with the final scene, regarding previous Jpen's question.
I have a question regarding the Final Facedown: how do you feel about the two slaps?
At the slap scene, I feel David's enormous strength than Maddie's violent rage. He doesn't escape, nor say the words, and of course doesn't slap her back, just stands there. Then the third slap coming, he catches her arm and pulls her to him. I felt he was really capable of accepting all about her whenever she was, whatever she was an angel or devil.
And I wonder what happened to Maddie then, I mean her attitude suddenly changed completely at the moment he pulls her arm. I can't read her expression...
