1. In a heated moment at Blue Moon Maddie says:
"How can you be so smart about me and so stupid about everything else?”
What does she mean?
2. Following is part of the heated discussion: Maddie:"Without you, I wouldn’t be involved in this stupid case! Without you—"
David:“What?”
Maddie: “Never mind.”
David: “No, I want to hear it!”
Maddie: “No, you don’t.”
What do you think MAddie would have said if David pushed her more?
3. Taking into consideration that this is early in D/M’s relationship, what is most revealed in this episode as to the growth of Maddie and David’s character?

I think Maddie is starting to assert herself and not going to let David be "right" all the time because he had the PI license longer. Up to now, she didn't push the envelope much when it came to the detective business, deferring to her longer tenured, but obviously NOT experienced partner. This was one of the first times where she started to show a little backbone and call him on his musings.
I think in this instance she was wondering why David always thinks he knows what is going on in Maddie's head, when he has so much trouble doing anything else (cases, finances, keeping the employees from fisticuffs...)

I really liked the scene in the car heading to the Mission and the street scene after the "nice" dinner. I thought it laid the basis for a hopeful future for the couple.
I also liked Maddie starting to come out of her shell and be more of a detective..as shown by her actions in the later shots.

What do you think MAddie would have said if David pushed her more? I really love the arguments in this episode. This is really heated. Maddie brings up again how she should be not in business with David like she mentioned before. I think David may have thought she was over that but her words show shes not. I think Maddie is thinking life is not the way she feels it should be, she should be home alone or traveling like she used to before all her money was stolen. David is really hurt in this scene. It kinda feels like a break up scene in a way its so intense. 3: Taking into consideration that this is early in D/M’s relationship, what is most revealed in this episode as to the growth of Maddie and David’s character? That they can really hurt each other bad already. So it must mean that there is a deep caring between them if one or both get hurt by the words spoken even if they arent admitting it for awhile that they have feelings for each other. Maddie trys to play off like David means nothing to her, she can go it alone and not look back ,David is hurt cause he feels this thing with them is going really good in his eyes but hes so hurt he tries to say well yeah i dont need you either in their fight so Maddie cant see how hurt he really is.

Dont' you just love the end scene, I love how already Miss Dipesto is calling Maddie :"MOM" to David, she already feels the connection between them. Like shes the child whos afraid her parents are splitting up. Then when Maddie comes and of all things apologizes, and then kisses him on the cheek. You can see in Davids' face as she leaves he is so hooked big time on her.

Bees, thanks for getting everything started! If it's OK, I thought I'd throw in a few more questions:
1. How does this episode develop Agnes' position at Blue Moon?
2. Regarding Maddie's revelation about her college stalker: a) How does this story impact the way David sees her? b) This may be a pretty big leap, but what the heck: how do you think this experience has affected Maddie in the long term?
3. I think we can all agree that in this second season, Moonlighting was really getting its "legs." "Mask" is only the second episode, but how do you feel about the character and relationship development so far?

Yep, I agree, rose. There's a very clear statement here that they can really affect each other--that there's already a strong connection, even though they haven't known each other very long. Also, I think Maddie is realizing, between this episode and "Brother", that David doesn't just have the ability to drive her crazy...but he can make her feel better, too. I just love that street scene gray mentioned. There's a sense of ease, balanced with the flirtation, that captures just why these two are so great together!

This is one of the first times that I felt a twinge of cruelty (for the lack of a better word) that could be used as a weapon by both of them against each other. In this episode, however, it is balanced out, and somewhat resolved by the tender peck on the cheek at the end. Unfortunately in some later episodes, as we know, the anger lingers....for months on end.

Bees, thanks for getting everything started! If it's OK, I thought I'd throw in a few more questions: 1. How does this episode develop Agnes' position at Blue Moon? I think that Agnes certainly is the buffer, the go between, the facilitator, between this budding relationship. She comes in at the right times to temper the hostility or to fan the flames of desire. I loved the way she shook her head at David's opening line on his note to Maddie...and the way she gleefully took up Maddie's offer to go "watch TV".

Regarding Maddie's revelation about her college stalker: a) How does this story impact the way David sees her? b) This may be a pretty big leap, but what the heck: how do you think this experience has affected Maddie in the long term? I considered this conversation one of the MOST revealing into the makeup of Madolyn Hayes, yet it is rarely discussed nor is this type of conversation repeated with such conviction (or at least very much). This incident obviously affected Maddie VERY MUCH. Since that day she is bound and determined to retain her NO, and no one, not a college stalker, not David Addison, is going to take that from her. I thought this was a wonderful scene with David's silence just as powerful as his similar stance with Sam in his apartment. He let Maddie talk and for once we got some insight. David knows now for sure, that this is one smart cookie he is dealing with, not some blonde ball of fluff. Oh, and by the way, after this incident I matriculated at a school for wayward boys and never pulled another panty raid.

You can see in Davids' face as she leaves he is so hooked big time on her. I agree Rose. I also see at the very end a look of relief in a certain sense. He has spent the last month, maybe...7 episodes...however long that is...trying to figure Maddie out. He just got through competing with his brother Richie for her affection while she struggled to save her house from the IRS ("Brother, Can...") Then in this ep he sees her trying to really make a go of Blue Moon, like a bonafide business woman of the 80's. She suffers the frustrations of setbacks, slow cash flow, ect., all those things that make running a company of your own scary sometimes. And then she reveals to him the college story and the guy taking her "no" away. A little piece of her heart and a possible explanation as to why she has this little shell around her when it comes to romance...with him anyway!

And I think because she really does know she needs him for the business business and wants him for personal business! Though she has a very hard time admitting the personal business part... I believe this is why one minute she is excited about a breakthrough in the case and the next she becomes frustrated with a setback and blames it on David. On the one hand she likes solving mysteries and the different adventures it entails. And then on the other she has this good looking guy she works with who drives her crazy. Must be love!
