I like this ep very much, the chase scene with the four "Barbaras" is pure slapstick and makes me LMAO loudly every time I watch it! The poor waiter being thrown four times on the clients' table! And how three of the "Barbaras" are shouting "Stop that man!" after what appears to be a woman... LOL!!!
Besides the
fun, this ep has some very
fine moments (and sometimes you notice them only watching for the second or third time! Much non-spoken messages here!).
I love how Maddie lets David know she understood his charm attack with the "first clump of dirt on the coffin"-speech and won't fall for it ("You're doing some pretty mean throwing yourself!") - but nevertheless she does exactly what he wants.
Again, he's getting physical with her - as he's making that speech of Partners - now - for ever etc. he's pulling her closer with every word. And she doesn't seem uncomfortable with that. As we said several times already, in other eps too, they seemed to be really comfortable with each other, no avoiding physical contact. I like that very much. ;D
Ah, the non-verbal things... I absolutely adore the look on David's face when they are listening to Frank telling the story. You can clearly see how it affects David. I wish Maddie would have noticed how that "most unfeeling" guy was touched ("sounds like love to me!")!
And I think I've already mentioned in an earlier post how much I like the ways David's eyeing Maddie when they sit on the roof to watch B.'s room and says something like "each action is followed by mutual satisfaction" (but at that point don't you want to give him a push and say: "Exactly, pal, and so...?!")
And did you notice how Agnes is looking back and forth between them as they're "washing the linen" in front of her desk? Just like a kid watching fighting parents - I didn't notice that when I watched for the first time. Leads directly to the "Are you and Mom having a fight?" question later in the final scene! (And how sweet there when Maddie reassuringly pats Agnes' shoulder as to say "Don't worry, it'll be allright with me and Daddy!")
I don't exactly know where Maddie's anger comes from - this time David hadn't made a mistake to be blamed for. Probably it's really because she knows that she needs him. And again, she comes up with the whole thing "should've shut down the agency" etc. etc. - quite unfair, blondie!
And he's really deeply hurt, once again: what this man is able to express with his face, with the single raising of an eyebrow, the tightening of a jaw, a little nod... can you tell I'm hooked?
But of course the final scene makes up for everything; after having made the first move Maddie's not afraid to apologize, to actually say she's sorry and admit that he's someone special ("I never had a man put a dress on for me!") - and you gotta admit, David doesn't exactly make it easy for her. He doesn't make it hard either, tells her at once that she's forgiven, but all the time until she bends down to him to kiss his cheek, he just stays as he is, leaned back on his couch and lets her come along the whole way (body language!). But ok, she deserved it. ;D
And his final smile is absolutely priceless. Can you read his thoughts too? "Whoa! Who would've thunk it!" comes pretty close, I guess...
Ok, to close this loooooooooooooooooong post, a few quotes:
Agnes: "There's a woman who wants to see you. A client."
M: "A client?! If she tries to leave, shoot her!"
D: "This is exciting, this is intriguing, this is..."
M: "Cowpatties!"
D: "Let's be friends - that's the worst! That's female for no kissy, no touchy, no horizonty!"
M: "There's no one I'd rather see die of thirst than you."
D: "I'm so touched!"
M: "Maybe he found God in prison."
D: "So that's where the old boy's beend hiding!"
M: "You swing from a vine, Addison."
D: "Sounds like fun."
D: "When I sit down at home thinking about the perfect person to complement my complex personality, you're not the first person to spring to mind!"
M: "Spring to what?"
D: "You know what your problem is?"
M: "I fear I'm looking at it!" OUCH! Kicked right in the gut, Maddie!
D: "Miss DiPestoooooo!"
A: "You hollered for me, Mr. Addison?" Yep, Agnes, cuz you're the best!
