Sorry it took me so long to get to this thread folks, but here goes! 1: This episode is kinda different from the others so far. Do you think this episode was just a filler one or did this not really feel like a ML episode? It was still early on in the series so do you feel it was too corny? Or just fine with ML standards so far? I didn't get the feeling that this episode linked with any others, and while I obviously don't have any inside information, it appears that it was aired at the "wrong" time. It aired in mid-November 1985, a few weeks before Thanksgiving. To me, it had the "look" of an episode filmed earlier, but never shown. Dave and Maddie didn't have the spark that had been increasing in intensity, especially over the past few episodes. Even Ms. Dipesto seemed to look like a throwback. I dunno, I think it should have aired as the last episode of Season One (in April) rather than in the middle of Season Two. As for it being an ML ep, yeah, it was OK as a stand alone. I didn't have any real beefs against it, but didn't really have a whole lot going for it either.

2: David of course seems to wants to believe Kathleen right away with her story of being a leprechaun, but not our Maddie till half way through the episode she has a change of heart, what do you think changed her mind? I think this is a usual ML trick where Maddie and David swap opinions midway through the episode. Dave starts off as a leprechaun enabler with Maddie playing his realist foil. Later, after Maddie sees the innocence Kathleen exudes, she figures going along with the shenanigans wouldn't be any harm. Later, David decides that it is time to end the party and it is Maddie who now doesn't want to ruin Kathleen's beliefs, fantasy or not.

3: what is your fave scene &/or fave lines from this episode?
I am with jen and bees on the first scene in Maddie's office. I think the banter is pretty clever and both Cybill and Bruce really do a great job with the comedy of this scene.
I just wanted to comment on something in the scene where David brings Kathleen to Maddie's house in the middle of the night. I have to say that Maddie's nightie is pretty revealing. She wears it well. When I think about the sexy night attire that she wore in the early seasons and compare it to the pjs of Season 5 - well, I guess that says it all...

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence: in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me, or which i cannot touch because they are too near your slightest look will easily unclose me though i have closed myself as fingers, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens (touching skilfully, mysteriously)her first rose or if your wish be to close me, i and my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly, as when the heart of this flower imagines the snow carefully everywhere descending; nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals the power of your intense fragility:whose texture compels me with the color of its countries, rendering death and forever with each breathing (i do not know what it is about you that closes and opens;only something in me understands the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses) nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands (Thanks for indulging me! Oh thank you, jpen, for sharing this - this is SO beautiful, esp the last 4 lines! And I agree, seems like it's just written for them!

Now I'm VERY late with my comment, but as you know I'm going through season 2 only these days, so I think I'm forgiven. Gotta say that I like this ep very much, it's very funny and heartwarming! Right, it seems to fit in the earlier eps, because it has no complications about our favorite couple, no relationship development, no misunderstandings etc. Maybe this was to give us a break after "Knowing her" which dug quite deep and to have us just sit back, relax and enjoy. Surely I did! To me, this ep has great moments, nice to see that sweet and soft side in our Maddie, wanting to spare Kathleen the truth about her father and not destroying her belief. And nice to see (not that we didn't know it already) that our David definitely has a conscience and would not take money from someone who he thinks has mental problems because it would be like stealing from him or her. Would have been nice if Maddie could have seen that as she always accuses him of being only after the money without conscience! This ep has a lot of funny scenes, of course the first D/M-scene at Maddies office is a classic, Agnes is also brilliant as ever: "A client - you sure?" - "I asked her three times." My favorite quotes: D: "He conked me in the head!" M: "My kinda guy!" LMAO!!! A nice "naughty" one: Kathleen: "You see, our magical powers work only at night!" David: "Night, huh?" (smirks at Maddie) "Mine too." (immediately followed by M: "That man belongs in a pound." A: "Pound of what?") And - last but not least - meaningful, D to M talking about magic and feeling: "Think too much and it'll go away."

Short and Sweet - like the episode:
I was wondering if anyone would comment on the nightie - surprised Bruce could keep his mind on the script! :-)
Interesting what Gray said about it being aired at the wrong time - as it does not run smoothly after 'Knowing Her' but as Sandra commented, it could be considered part of the tease, so it worked.
I think that I must have really liked this one back when I was 13 as could remember a lot of the lines more than usual - the fun element obviously appealed to my 13 yr old self.
I did enjoy the silliness of this one I have to say.
Favourite moments and quotes: The 'Another Mother for Lease' - still really cracks me up! :-)
David's revelation that he he is much more cultured than Maddie expected (thanks for putting the poem up!)- another gorgeous layer is peeled off the Addison onion.
'I like to look at naked women' - 'I'm sure you do'
'Do you want to look at any more dead bodies?'- 'No thanks, our learning is one step per day.'
'That Kilpatrick woman...is a little strange.' 'Do you hear that? That's the pot calling the kettle pot.'
And yes Sandra 'Think too much and it'll all go away.' Wish they'd taken their own advice.

I love this episode - it is one of my top five for the following reasons. The first scene with David and Maddie had me hooked.Maddie does dry, sarcastic comedy really well here. " I don't even remember saying come in" "I know there's a point in there somewhere" "What do you waaant?" "Now I know why people turn to drugs" (I could go on) This fast talking dialogue is Moonlighting at its best. As an English person, i love the way she says Gau..gin! they're exhibiting a new Gau..gin. I have replayed this far too many times (ooops did I just say that out loud) I love Maddies hair and the colour she is wearing in that first scene. She looks particularly beautiful throughout this episode but never more so than in this first scene. She is not in the least phased by his fast talking, silly ideas more concentrated on busying herself re-arranging and tidying her office before she goes to see Gau...gin (rewind Gau...gin rewind Gau...gin) "Nakes have staples in them" Hahahaha I love her surprise when David shows his knowledge of Rubens and then her disgust at his following remarks and the fact that she actually fell for him pretending to be intelligent only to disgust and rile her on purpose - again. Very funny. I love the whole story (agreed the Irish accent is a bit iffy) but i do think that it brings Maddie and David closer together and there are some really nice moments throughout the episode. My favorite scenes/lines/moments The clapping your hands to save Tinkerbell scene! Maddies "I did too clap for Tinkerbell" shows that she thinks about everything he says to her and it hurts her that he thinks she is unfeeling. I love the Irish musical interludes and the way that even the whole story is "cuckoo" it all works itself out to a believable and somewhat credible ending. I love the opening door scene at Maddies house. "Need help" "I've known that for months" "Karate?" " No more like early Diana Ross" haha guffaw guffaw choke on my peanuts. I have watched that scene many times too. I love the way they both come together to watch Kathleen as she is sleeping and this definitely brings them closer together. Maddie combines hostility towards David and her lack of belief with a softness which really comes across in this episode both in her character but also in the way she is dressed (or not - re the nightgown scene you mentioned above) She thaws a little bit more throughout the episode and she warms to Kathleen and changes her beliefs. I love the way David says "I'll get a shovel" (On the very odd occasions i have needed a spade I have used this one - usually to be asked why I have lapsed into an American accent) Finally, I love the digging for the pot of gold scene. I roll up laughing at how David's rude song annoys Maddie. The look she gives him - priceless. And when she storms off and he goes after her. "That's not a rainbow, that's a bridge. She's not a leprechaun, she's crazy. We're not going to find a pot of gold because there is no pot of gold". This is Maddie at her best, angry, making sense and yet proved wrong. Brilliant script and acting. I can kind of see why some of you feel that this episode doesn't fit in. I don't think it is a stand alone episode or a filler. I feel that Camille or the Dream Sequence are much more out of character. I do think that the dialogue and acting here are really good and funny and this is why I will always love watching this episode. And the happy ending makes me all "dingy". Snap x

I love this episode so much, had almost included it on my TOP 10 list I must admit it is one of those episodes that I re-watch and never get tired of it. Love your description, snappysara!

I agree with both of you. This episode is special. I've seen some Twitter people say it was a ridiculous episode with Kathleen having a horrible Irish accent. I find it delightfully dorky and very romantic. I wish we had more episodes like this - with on-location shots, a 3rd character that Maddie & David felt sweetly protective of and of course, scenes with Maddie in her pj's spending time with David.
The ending is lovely and different from most endings we saw. Like Goldi, I watch this one a lot. It's a fun one to watch with my kids but also has some great adut lines: "So, Kathleen. Where do you stash your pot?" lol.

I'm rewatching the entire series again and told myself I wouldn't skip any episodes. I want to experience all the characterization of David and Maddie that I can to help me write fanfic for them. But as before, I just can't sit through this one. I'm almost at the end of season two this one is still the worst episode at this point. I think it's one of the worst in the entire series. It's silly and uninteresting. This episode even makes D/M uninteresting.

You know bluecheese....I used to think the same thing. But I've made myself watch this one a few times and really paid close attention to it. Namely, the facial expressions from David and Maddie that are so well done by Bruce and Cybill. I think many times there are underlying messages for the viewer that get missed because, well, the story is a little slow. I like to pull something out of it though and I've found that it's not about rainbows and leprechauns, etc.. It's always about the relationship.....and where it's going.
