So where do we begin?
I've got to say, this is probably my least favorite of the Agnes and Bert episodes. But I really did make an effort, and found a few interesting things to talk about (I think), along with a couple of things from the script -- don't get excited, they are not so great!
I'm gonna toss out a couple of questions, and hopefully we'll get some more.......
1. Considering how their relationship first started........what is your impression on where Agnes and Bert are with each other at the beginning of this episode?
2. Why haven't Maddie and David given Agnes a chance to be a detective? And why do they have such a hard time narrowing down "the things she does so well"?
3. Do you see any of parts of Maddie and David's characters reflected in Agnes and Bert?
4. What did you think of the case?
5. Got any favorite lines? (You knew that was coming!)
Ok.....somebody else...please.........

Even though Agnes is miffed that Bert is getting to do more detective work after only being at Blue Moon for a short time, I think they have already become fairly honest with each other as far as their relationship at this point. Yes, Bert lied about the credit card, but he did later come forth and admit what he had done. There is no beating around the bush or tip toeing around with these two. Agnes isn't afraid to tell Bert what she is thinking and how she feels. Humph....she lets her self feel and doesn't try to hide it!

2. Why haven't Maddie and David given Agnes a chance to be a detective? And why do they have such a hard time narrowing down "the things she does so well"?Did they know she wanted to be a detective? That wasn't what she was originally hired to do, was it? As far as narrowing down the things she does well.....possibly doing so would make them admit that she knows more about the two of them than they would like her too. Which is really what she does in the office anyway...puts her nose in their business and tries to smooth out the rough patches between the two of them, all the while knowing they really care for each other, but neither wants to be the first to reveal their feelings to the other. These are the things she does so well. And yet she agonizes over these very things just like we do!! That's all from me for now. More tomorrow...early tee time!

I'm not sure Agnes and Bert really have a relationship at this time. I guess I should be more certain, after all this time, but I've gotta admit, I pay more attention to the other "nitwit relationship" than I do to theirs.
I kind of get the impression that although they are getting to know each other, Agnes and Bert don't really become a couple until they work through the trilogy, and seemingly get David and Maddie together, although there are some definite hints of things to come.
I do agree with bees that there are no games between the two of them......probably a clear example of watching what not being honest brings you.

2. Why haven't Maddie and David given Agnes a chance to be a detective? And why do they have such a hard time narrowing down "the things she does so well"?
A couple of things.....first, Agnes's quirky side might not be what you were looking for in a professional to represent your company. In spite of that, she seems to do a good job of keeping he office intact, especially if she is allowed to keep her individualism. But sending her out to deal with clients and resources like police, etc. might have its drawbacks.
Maddie and David can't put their finger on Agnes's strengths because they do take them for granted. Agnes is not valuable because she can type X number of words a minute, but because of the effect she can have on the entire enterprise. Her contributions are intangible, and sometimes so subtle that they are difficult to enumerate. But her heart and her insight are much more valuable to Blue Moon than her office/detective skills. This clearly becomes even more evident as we move forward from this episode into the remainder of season 3 and season 4.

5. Got any favorite lines? (You knew that was coming!)
Not exactly the same words, but this line cracks me up:
"I hope you two know you have a tongue-lashing coming. Now, I volunteered to take your place. I was even willing to shower, but she wouldn't have it."
LOL! Diane, like your signature quote for the week! ;D
4. What did you think of the case?
As ML cases go, this wasn't bad writing at all. As good a case as any, I think.
3. Do you see any of parts of Maddie and David's characters reflected in Agnes and Bert?
Yes! There is chemistry between Agnes and Bert much like Maddie and David, just not as hot! The writers did a good job of giving them snappy, clever lines that made the viewer aware that they were trying to mirror Maddie and David. Bert going to help Agnes is much like David following Maddie to Buenos Aires in "Money Talks,..." or even Maddie following David to NYC in "Big Man..."
I think the writers also did a great job of puposefully making it seem that Agnes and Bert can communicate so easily, with no games or tiptoeing around, just to make the viewers go nuts in the next few episodes where communication between David and Maddie is nowhere to be found!

The only question I can come up with: Who would you rather work for, David or Maddie, and why? ....script secrets? ...please?

My question: Do you think the fact that David and Maddie are actually on the same page in rejecting the case and lying to the potential client is intended merely to advance the plot in Bert and Agnes' direction, or as a comment on the status of their relationship (considering the next episode is Blonde on Blonde)?

5. Got any favorite lines? (You knew that was coming!) "You're not the only one around here with potential, Mr. Smarty Boots!" Agnes "I didn't just fall off the turnip truck." Bert "Why are you competing with me? I mean, it's not like we're running a potato sack race here." Bert "Bert, I'm sure you have better things to do than scurry after me spewing root vegetable metaphors!" Agnes "Thanks, Bert. Hope you don't take this the wrong way: Butt the hell out o' my life!" Agnes

The only question I can come up with: Who would you rather work for, David or Maddie, and why? ....script secrets? ...please? David of course! Why? Because he is the fun boss and well there wouldnt be much work to do then LOL But seriously there arent any or many jobs out there like that with a boss like David and most of us would probably get a Maddie type Boss in the real world LOL But for reel world give me Boss David LOL

"Thanks, Bert. Hope you don't take this the wrong way: Butt the hell out o' my life!" Agnes LOL this is one of my favorite lines too. And right after having said that, she puts on the sunglasses! Mirrors Maddie perfectly! But there are sooo many more great lines! Rightaway: D: "Have you thought of going to someone who specializes in this kind of thing? A psychic? A priest? Dan Aykroyd?" D: "That means we agree! That's weird, isn't it? I always thought there'd be fireworks and bells going off, but, God, it's so natural, so easy... want a cigarette now?" A: "None of your beeswax!" A: "What kinda ghost are you? Don't you have any manners? Close the door behind you!" B: "Full-time employee Nr. 007 with the license to spend!" A: "I heard a scream, it was like..." Mrs. R.: "Aaaaah!" A: "Close, but more blood-curdling. More from the diaphragm!" My absolute killer line!!!!A: "He's... he's... he's..." B: "Dead. Dead. Dead." B: "Lady, that can't be good for your face!" A: "We caught the murderer." D: "And everyone lived happily ever after?" A: "Well, no, nearly everybody died." Gotta say, for A/B ep it wasn't bad at all! I LOLed a few times, great lines here - see above - and Agnes is brilliant and shows guts ("I ain't afraid of no ghosts!"). Bravo!

I loved these lines too - D & M may have only been in it for a few minutes but they dominate the screen when they do! They must have had a well earned week off here ey? It must have been around the time she got preggers and he had his skiing accident - as all the issues follow. A very productive week off I presume? Well for Cybill anyway... lol It's not my favourite Agnes and Bert ep - but I do think Allyce throws in a grand performance and we do get to see another layer of her personality :-)
