I know David is immature & has trouble admitting his feelings (among other faults), but after observing Sam's behavior in this episode I couldn't help but wonder; "Maddie's really considering getting hitched to this geek?". I understand Sam is hurt and made anxious by Maddie's lackluster response to his proposal, but it sort of feels forced and unnatural, almost like they want to make it crystal clear that David = our hero & Sam = evil Maddie thief. The scene in Davids apartment; "Look at you, you're a mess". The parking garage; "...SHE, doesn't want to talk to you!". The ride home "Last time I checked my watch, it was 36 hours since I asked ya' what I asked ya'.". I enjoyed 'Sam & Dave' as well as 'Maddies Turn to Cry'. Sam seemed like a really easy-going, sweet guy with a sense of humor. Hell, in the former he put up with Davids crap for an entire evening. Not an easy feat. But all of a sudden he becomes the obnoxious pretty boy David unsuccessfully tried to pin him as at the dinner table. Sam says during the episode "...it feels like I'm being cast as the bad guy.". I think he was right.
