Let's talk about our favorite moments in ML history with David Addison.
I'll start with my all time fave, "Sam and Dave". Never before have I seen such complexity in a television character. David is struggling so hard with himself and with this triangle, and yet he can't seem to get off the dime and tell Maddie how he really feels. Instead he sabotages himself (as he does so often) by getting drunk and making an ass out of himself at the restaurant. I never felt so sorry for him and at the same time so angry with him!
BW does some of if not the best work of his career here, IMO.
[glow=yellow,2,300]Hi there Hazel. Yeah,I do remember some Moments with David Addison. I have 3 favourites:[/glow]
[glow=blue,2,300]-On Episode:"My Fair David",I remember that Limbo Dancing when he makes to the other Blue Moon Staff,so funny[/glow]
[glow=yellow,2,300]-Episode:"To Heiress Human",When David gives many kisses to Maddie,in the car,so romantic.[/glow]
[glow=blue,2,300]-And Episode:"Between a Yuk and a Hard Place",when Maddie and David are stuck on the elevator,he hugs her,it's very sweet(I say on my opinion,he was protecting her.) I have here some pics. about this episode.[/glow]
[glow=yellow,2,300]OHHH,I KNOW IT, THEY LOVE EACH OTHER [/glow]
There is one scene I love watching over and over again, and it actually doesn't have David and Maddie in it together - the scene in Father Knows Last on the aeroplane when David talks to Mr Hayes about how he feels about Maddie. Lots of emotion there, great acting, very moving scene. That's a definite great moment with Mr. David Addison!
I agree totally Babyhayes, the acting in this scene is wonderful. Proof (if it were needed) that Bruce is a wonderful actor. Every time I watch this scene, I get a lump in my throat, its so emotional and real.
PS Forgot to say that I love your name, Babyhayes!!
"You can lead a horse to water, but that doesn't make it a duck"
PS Forgot to say that I love your name, Babyhayes!!
As Bruce seems to play tough men a lot, I absolutely love the fact he played a baby in AWWAV. Not so keen on the nappy thing but the blue baby suit and bow in his hair just gets me every time! A good example of versatile acting me thinks!
I like how David gets involved in wanting to be a father in Fetal Attraction. He is so sweet in that episode. Too bad that Maddie can't be there to see how responsible and caring he is acting then. Not a smart mouth jokester at all like he tries to act so many times. I do like him funny and cracking jokes but sometimes it is so special to see him act so sweetly and honestly.
Yes Mulberry. We like to see the cocky, glib David A. show vulnerability and feelings. It makes him a much richer, interesting character. Besides, it allows us to see a bit of his heart and that endears him even more to us.
I think we like it when either Maddie or David is need of the other one because they spend so much time pretending they are ok and hiding their true feelings. When they are in trouble and show they are actually vulnerable emotional people it is easy to relate to them and have empathy for them. In other words it is great to have characters that are exactly like us in one way or another!

One of my favorite moments is (I think) in "Maddie's Turn to Cry," where they are at his apartment and it turns out he has nothing in the front room, so they have to sit on crates or something. That struck me as hilarious.
That whole conversation they have is really sweet...and when he tries to protect her from looking at the body of the 'suicide.'

Wasn't feeling well today...so I took of dose of ML, "and suddenly, I feel all cheered up. Like Jiffy Pop - without the grease." (Agnes) So I watched one of my favorite eps - "Brother Can You Spare A Blonde" This ep just gets better and better. And since I'm in this thread, I thought I'd talk about David A. This episode is a perfect combination of all that David is. And Bruce plays it sooo wonderfully. At the beginning when David is helping Maddie pick up the papers she dropped - they're bantering about finding a client and she says the IRS wants to take her house away. The look he gets on his face. His realization that he's not done enough. That he doesn't want her to lose her house. But even much deeper than that - he doesn't want to lose her. All wrapped up in that one look. His overwhelming jealousy of Richard - who is clearly smitten with Maddie - but is doing it just to get at his brother. The sibling rivalry between Wally and Beav. David's undeniable uneasiness to see his brother again. How much he needs Maddie to be by his side. And how hurt and jealous he is to see them 'getting along' in the bar. The pain on his face as he watches them dance. So sad - your heart just goes out to the 'poor slob'. The emasculation of having to ask his brother for money, and not wanting her to know about it. He's so clearly head over heels in love with her in this episode - he can't see straight - and is barely holding on by a thread. And the fact that he has to ask his brother to help him just kills him. He's not able to 'provide' for her himself. His character is acting on so many levels - it's amazing. There are some of the funniest lines and scenes in this episode, but some of the deepest emotional scenes for his character in any episode leading up to the Big Bang. Well, other than Big Man on Mulberry Street. But that's another post.

I had to respond to your comments, bluemoongirl, as they completely echo my own feelings on this episode in general, and Bruce Willis's performance in particular. It is also the episode I watch over and over again, mainly for the scene where David watches Maddie and Richard dancing. And the whole temper tantrum he has with Agnes shows how out of control he is feeling. Superb acting.

Hi Blue Velvet,
Nice to see you. Yes, this is truly one of the finest acting jobs of Bruce's on ML. After I posted, I realized I had forgotten to mention his outburst at Agnes. Wow!! He gets so choked up when he's telling her to mind her business. Just before that when Maddie hugs him fo 'finding' the money - he's just hit the floor emotionally. He makes that quip about not being totally invulnerable. But all he wants to do is just hold her and tell her he loves her so bad it's killing him. Oh, and one more scene. When Richard and Maddie are playing Trivial Pursuit, and David actually kicks the door in. Wow!!! It's a hilarious scene. But him kicking the door in. There is no way in h*ll he's letting his brother take her away from him. And you know....for this to be the 'first' episode for the second season. What a way to get everyone salivating for more!!! At the time, I remember being on the edge of my seat just waiting for the sparks to fly. And boy, did they ever!!!
