First let me give a special thanks to 1987. I was waiting to post this information until after she completed her Top 6, as this is definitely her week to spotlight her ML love! She not only agreed, but encouraged me to post this information because she felt that all of you would enjoy it.
Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to travel to New York City and see "La Cage aux Folles" which has Allyce in a featured role. I sat on the edge of my seat, waiting for her to come in, although knowing the show, I realized she would be featured in act 2. But, to my surprise, she was on stage in act 1 as well, playing a small support role. Her Act 2 performance was great...she was funny, and did a great job dancing and singing.
After the show, I waited at the stage door amongst all the Kelsey Grammar autograph seekers, clutching my Moonlighting script and keeping my eyes peeled for Allyce. After about a half hour, all the cast seemed to be gone, and the door guard said, "I think they are all gone." I told him I was waiting for Allyce, and he wasn't sure she hadn't gone by already -- but I was sure she hadn't. He went inside, and a few moments later....out she came.
She was so sweet.....she apologized for being so late, but that a group of people she had gone to high school with had stopped to see the show that night. I had my script copy of "Twas", and I asked her to sign it. She said, "Oh my goodness, you have one of those"....I told her I had quite a few of those, and explained to her my link to the website. I told her that I had left a note for her earlier in the day, and she apologized for not having read it. She explained that the two principals in the cast were leaving next week, and besides doing their 8 shows a week, they were rehearsing about 5 hours a day with the replacements. She said she was "absolutely fried".
I apologized for holding her up, and that I just wanted to let her know what a pleasure it was to meet her and how much I appreciated her work. She gave me a big hug. I told her she had a great following on the website, and teased her that she was the only one of the "big four" that we hadn't seen or interviewed for the site. She said that she certainly didn't want to be the only one. She asked if I had left my contact info in my note, and I told her yes. She then grabbed my hand, and held it while she said, " I am so grateful that you have such appreciation for the show. I am so very proud of the work that we did".
She said she has gone to the site a few times and that she really liked it.
She then asked for the script back (she had already signed it), because she wanted to personalize it for me. I asked her if I could take a picture. She put her arm around my shoulders, the stage door guy took the camera, and took a picture of both of us. I am sure it is going to be a doozey.....we were both bundled up like Nanook of the North, and just as he snapped, my hair blew all over my face. No matter....I will know what it is!
Then I thanked her again, and she gave me another hug, and then off she went.
It was just a few moments, but I was so glad to meet this lovely woman, who was just as sweet and gracious as I expected. I do have to admit that my mind wandered a little bit -- I couldn't believe that VOICE was talking to me!
I haven't had the pictures developed yet......yes, I am the only person on earth who doesn't have a digital camera.....but I will try and post the picture if it turns out.
Hope you can all enjoy vicariously the thrill of meeting Ms. DiPesto!! And thanks once again to 1987 for her true selflessness and graciousness!!
