Ladies...I have loved reading all your top 10 picks so far. Reading these have made me rethink my list more than once. I wanted to have my list written up and done before I read anyones elses comments because I didnt want to have any influance, now I am glad I did that because now I am saying...man...that was a good scene! Loving your comments everyone! I thought for sure there would be a lot of duplicates here, which would be fine, because great scenes are just great scenes, but there has been a pretty good mix so far. I agree with you goldilocks - these lists are great because they are so similar but yet so different at the same time! Cant wait to read more! LOVING this project!

Jen......
Just amazing......excellent choices. I am actually thrilled that you chose the scene from Symphony......I actually chose that one, and wrote a paragraph on it......then it became my number 11! So I am adopting your list too.
I also don't know why the laundromat scene is not on my list.....must have had a mental lapse...I know it has some of my favorite dialogue...."brutal honesty and lack of tact...I like that in my failed relationships".
You nailed it here:
Maddie tries to explain why she wants--no, needs--out, and David gives her all the reasons why they should keep trying. Their dance is the perfect farewell, kind of a bookend to the scene at the end of “I am Curious”: Instead of angry passion, we have bittersweet sadness. It’s a reminder of all the dancing (literal and metaphorical) that brought them here, and how far they’ve come. At the end of it, they’re both finally able to say “I love you”...OUT LOUD...no euphemisms, no hiding.
And I can’t help being hopeful when Maddie says, “You’re not gonna dance here with anybody else, are you? You’d better not!”...even though I know what’s to come, for this moment, I still believe it's all gonna work out fine.
Loving that we are all such optimists......and that we are having so much fun with this.

I now want to have another ML marathon....starting with "Symphony..."
I debated that one....wished I'd put it on my list now, but glad it got mentioned.
Wonderful, jpen!

Thanks for the lovely comments, everyone! I think we all could've easily done a "Top 20" list--but the discipline of having to shave it down was really interesting..made me look at the scenes that much more closely.
Looking forward to yours, Hazel!! ;D

diane, I enjoyed every last bit; however, I especially connected to these two choices. The Pilot – the scene at the officeMaddie assumes he is a fast talking shinola salesman who is trying to charm the pants off her, both literally and figuratively. I actually had to look up shinola, saw the definition and thought, "Eh, 'bout right." Seems like a word Maddie could have/would have said...but could it have aired? I adore this scene, how Maddie looks at him--pleasantly surprised, even a little turned on--and lets him know this early in the game, "Okay, maybe I underestimated you." Atlas Belched – the scene on Maddie’s staircaseWell, it’s no secret that I really adore this scene. In a mere two minutes, we get such an amazing look into the real feelings and mutual respect that these two have developed for one another. It was genius to set the scene on the staircase…..putting them in such physical proximity…almost, but not quite touching. I love the way they share their disappointment, trying to be positive, and failing…yet finding comfort in their shared failure. I love Maddie’s observation – “we’re quite a pair, aren’t we?” And their overlapping admission that they had made a mistake is heart wrenching. I think Maddie takes a giant step in admitting she was wrong, and asking David to hire her so she can be his support system, just as he has been so many times to her. She realizes that this man is so much more than a work partner, and her life is so much fuller when he is around. But I have got to say, my favorite thing of all is that I love watching Maddie falling in love. Her voice softens, she blushes, she giggles, she smiles, she turns away…..and when David calls her to say thanks, the long look they share speaks volumes. I am literally bewitched by this scene every time I watch it…..and I watch it a lot! How many actors can sit across from each other on a staircase and create a feeling so warm and magical? Only 2 that I can think of. I'm with you diane...I watch this scene so often it borders on ridiculous. My favorite part is when Maddie lovingly mimics David's speech to her from the day before in his office. She may have never made him laugh out loud with a joke in their years together, but Maddie's subtle humor could certainly bring out David's gleaming smile and sparkling green.

Lovely picks Jen - again, this project makes me want to go and watch all of those scenes you just described - amazing! You chose some beautiful moments that show our duo at their ML best. I, on the other hand, am really struggling with my list of thirty great scenes at the moment (how on earth will I turn them into 10?)- lol! Maybe I should just put them in a hat and see what comes out...kinda spontaneous!

Sorry folks, I'm a little behind. bees, first I would like to ask if you were/are a fan of "Friends." Your scene titles are similar to the show's episode titles: "The One Where . . . ." I thought there might be a connection, and I got a kick out of it.
I loved your presentation. You got heart, kid! I'm going to have to keep my list astray from all these greats, because I don't think I could explain my love for them any better. Well done.

jpen, these particular choices tugged at my heartstrings, although I loved the whole bunch . . . obviously. Father Knows Last: "Do you have any idea how I feel about your daughter? Do you?" Everything we’ve ever thought about David is confirmed in these few minutes: he’s fiercely loyal, determined, savvy...and he loves our dear Maddie beyond everything. David says, “Love her? Mr. Hayes, I would give up my life for her”; the thing is, if push really came to shove, I think Maddie would do the same for him...not that she would ever admit it. That description of David could not be more spot-on. Thing is, those are important attributes that he and Maddie share. And if push came to shove, indeed she would . . . in a heartbeat. The Lady in the Iron Mask: “I’m glad you’re my partner, partner.” Now, both David and Maddie are having regrets. I love the use of parallelism in this scene, post-argument (and post-soapsuds): they each walk to their door, and each starts a letter to the other. But nothing will do except to make it up, face to face. Agnes’ bit in this scene is so great: “You and mom having a fight?” The way David smiles at her, and the way Maddie squeezes her arm as she leaves, just demonstrates what a family they’ve become. Then there’s Maddie, sultry in the doorway (dang, there’s something about doorways on this show!!), and David, his smirk subdued, on the couch. She apologizes (!!!), he forgives; she kisses him, and the sparks fly. The final shot, of his wry grin marked by the lipstick on his cheek...holy moly, can you ever see it enough?? Regarding doorways, I've had that exact same thought! So many of their tender moments happen when they're leaning against a slab of some sort: doorjambs, concrete pillars. They're a couple of yards from each other here, and the temperature shoots up at least 20 degrees. This is the first episode I had on videotape, and I could not stop watching it . . . or this scene. So, no . . . it's never enough for me. Maddie Hayes Got Married: “Do what you’ve gotta do, but, I just want you to know, I understand...” “I really wish, with my whole heart, that this was your baby inside me.” It’s far, far more than just a paternity preference; what she’s really saying is, “It’s you--I choose you”....which is exactly what David, and the rest of us, have been waiting to hear all along. Had Maddie ever used the word "heart" before this moment? Referring to hers, or at all? I know she spoke from it, but I'm not sure she ever spoke OF it. Interesting. Whatever the case may be, her wish comes from ALL of it. Every single piece. That they could do it right this time around. That she have a chance to be completely open to loving him, having him love her. That they could co-parent this baby without worrying he felt obligated to do so. Hoo! Little misty-eyed here. Bottom line jen, ye did good. Thanks for sharing.

Ok let’s start off by saying I am no writer. I am lucky I can put a sentence together to get my thoughts out on paper. With that said… this was way more difficult than I ever thought it would be! I had a list of about 25 scenes to narrow down! And that was just the scenes from memory! It was hard for me to narrow down. I loved Moonlighting not only for the “dramady” but the romance! I could have easily had a top 10 comedy scene and the top 10 romantic scenes! I think I tried to break this down based on how many times I had to hit the rewind button and watch that scene over again…and again…and again. But atlas…this was top 10 favorite…so this is my combo platter: 10. Episode: I See England, I see France, I see Maddies Netherworld Scene: “Somehow I thought chewing your pantyhose off was going to be a lot more fun than this…” www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwUK0tHzYuoThis is one of my few season five favorites. This scene was by no means a perfect scene. They were supposed to be tied up but yet you see both of their hands are quite visible. I am guessing this was a get it done in one take kind of scene! LOL! (Much like many of those famous car scenes…I’m supposed to be driving…but I’m not looking at the road, I’m yelling at you instead) I love that in this scene that you see Bruce and Cybill truly having fun with this and Maddie and David laughing about it, and I laughed right along with them! This to me was a true laugh out loud moment. It must have been so fun to do…and hey…let’s admit it….who wouldn’t want to be tied up in a shower with Bruce right?!?! (And he wouldn’t have to pay me either). 9. Episode: Knowing Her Scene: “Whoa…it’s a whole new you…” www.youtube.com/watch?v=99D-lNqN-60&feature=BF&list=PL43397563B037F1D3&index=23This is one of the best elevator feet scenes ever…you just know as soon as you see that wet dirty mess that this is going to be good. How many great lines are in this scene alone??? Maddies “GO AWAY” warning, Davids “go away?” threw his smirk, Maddie hitting David away with the door and how he laughs at it…like he is just thinking…wow this is going to be fun torturing her about being late! Maddies “What do YOU WAAAANNNNTTTTT” and Davids “WHOA!” as soon as he sees her. The camera shot between Maddies legs and Davids reaction to seeing her look the way she looks is just classic! How Maddie just takes a deep breath and rolls her eyes as though to brace herself for what she knows is in store for her from David…the lets just get this over with face. How David just chuckles at her behind her back as she waddles to the chair to sit down. How she shoves the chair away just a little too hard…and we wonder…wow, was that suppose to be shoved that hard? Some of the classics…Davids ”do math majors multiply…do eggs get laid”…, “stay put…appearances count. You want to attract clients you got to dress for success…or in your case dress period.” Maddies “Addison…you sleep in a pen!” 8. Episode: The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice Scene: “You’re a sexist” www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UTQfh3lkUkI have so many favorite car banter scenes, but I just love this one. Most likely because it is from one of my favorite episodes. I love that David calls Maddie a sexist and the crack in Maddies voice as she gets angrier at David. This scene just sets up the entire episode…and we hear talk of this “sexist” conversation throughout the rest of this episode. This scene is quintessential Moonlighting! LOVE IT! 7. Episode: The Next Murder You Hear Scene: “You’re oppressed or obsessed or one of those essed words…” www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nU3AIvfK04There are just so many good quotes from this scene! It’s just a classic Moonlighting car banter scene and one of my all time favs. • “You’re mad because he boinked a couple house fraus?”(SP?) • “Fine…fine…good…good…”(one of my personal favorites. One we don’t hear enough of later on in the series.) • “You’re weird…” “This is very meaningful; humpty dumpty is calling me cracked.” • “Your oppressed or obsessed or one of those essed words.” (I would say we are all one of these “essed” words…that’s for sure!) • “You…you make me stiff and tense…” (He sure made me stiff and tense!) • And of course” boink boink boink boink boink boink boink”….I believe “Boink” became a household word around our house after this episode. (LOL…it makes me laugh just writing it…BOINK.) 6. Episode: Twas The Episode Before Christmas Scene: “What are you doing….I’m doing what I should have done all along” www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ4sNhXI4Bs&feature=relatedIn rewatching this scene I wondered how many takes it took Bruce and Cybill to get the timing of this fight down so perfectly. Got to love that overlapping banter and how David just knew everything Maddie was going to say. I love at the end of the scene when they are going back into the office and they burst thru the door and David does this little spin to keep from falling and just lands smoothly into the chair. That’s our Dave…smooth.

5. Episode: My Fair David Scene: “Mark my words….maturity is its own reward…” www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_9JfoehZIIThis scene is just beyond compare. The banter…the overlapping dialog…what could be better right??? This scene just has so much: • “Stop it…stop it…stop it” and the throwing of the toilet paper roll • “Do you know what hurts most…when you get a pimple on the inside of your nose…” • “That’s body hair baby…” • Maddie shaking Davids lei and David shaking his head • “The only solution is disillusion….” “What is that Brooklyn for this solution?” • “None of that hip hop slop you call English…I don’t care if bears bear or bees bee…” • The shake when Maddie goes to shake Davids hand • And last but not least…one of my all time favorites…. “Mark my words…maturity is its own reward…” and David walking behind Maddies back threw the office doing the elephant walk and walking like a hunchback. This is all just classic Moonlighting. Scenes like this one is what made Moonlighting what it was…and of course…what we love. 4. Episode: Witness For The Execution Scene: Don’t go…gotta go…don’t go…gotta go…. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATBJ2hUi7Qk&playnext=1&list=PL43397563B037F1D3The looks…the love…the KISS!!! How much did I LOVE that kiss!!! Nothing is better than that first kiss. I hold my breath every time I see that kiss! Ahhhh…But seriously, Maddie…move your damn purse down…I’m trying to see! • The “Come here stupid”. • “You smell awful”. • The entire “What was that? What was what?” part….oh you two just couldn’t let it be nice could you? But atlas…it would not be our David and Maddie if they didn’t question why now would it. 3. Episode: Father Knows Last Scene: “Marry her… do I love her…Mr. Hayes I would give up my life for her.” www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o2ktuaBL70One of my favorite scenes in season 4. Ohh this speech…this speech…this speech…this speech. How much would we have loved to have Maddie hear this speech! And just one question…when on earth did David ask Maddie to marry him??? I know that this has been discussed her on the boards…but truly…it drives me bats. I would have killed to see a proposal scene! Even if she did say no! (Dumb girl!) The look on Davids face, how he delivers these powerful words, the glimmer in his eyes…this just all makes this scene unforgettable to me. Let’s not forget Alex Hayes…he was super great too. Could there have been anyone else cast better than him for Maddies Dad…I think not. Ok, I got to go watch this episode again. Oh my heart. Someone please pass me a tissue and crank up the defibrillator will ya. 2. Episode: Maddies Turn To Cry Scene: “I hate you David Addison…I know…I hate you to Maddie Hayes…I’ve always hated you.” www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtBejLa1QeQWhy oh why could David just not tell Maddie why he interrupted her dinner?!?! It has obviously been on her mind…she wanted to hear it…she wanted to know. She came all the way to his apartment to hear it. I just wanted to yell TELL HER ALREADY! (Quite frankly I probably did). Am I alone on this one??? I think not. At least there is an admission of feelings…as much of an admission that these two can give at this time anyway. “I hate you David Addison”…”I know…I hate you to Maddie Hayes…I’ve always hated you.” Now lets take a time out here for just a moment so I can swoon. Ahhhhhh…..Ok. I’m better now. Now, as much as I love the kiss in the garage I think I love this kiss even more. You can just see and sense the love…the tenderness…Yeah Dave…I thought we were heading for something big too….damn runny mascara. 1. Episode: I Am Curious Maddie Scene: The Big Bang www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORarKBSplwIWell…duh. Of course this is my #1! It was everything I have waited for. I watched…I watched again…and again…and again…more times than I can count. From the very first moment of the Ronettes DA DA DA DUM…I just sat there…staring…not breathing…not blinking…just holding my breath watching…thinking YEAH!!! (All the while my Mom was in the background saying “ya know…that’s not really them rolling around on the floor like that! That’s so unrealistic!” Really Mom…really???) I was secretly praying to myself please let my VCR be working right now and I’m getting all of this on tape so I can watch it again without all the blah blah blah of my Mom in the background! LOL…Love ya Mom. This scene just has it all. The love, the passion, the t-shirt grabbing, hair in the hands, hands on the body heat baby! I just love the facial expressions…from Davids shocked expression from the ending of the kiss to Maddies sweet smile after Davids kiss in bedroom after the “I love you.” (Yes, I believe he said it – at least in my little world). My all time favorite Moonlighting moment, hell, who am I kidding, my all time favorite T.V. moment. Whoa…is it hot in here, or is it me? I need to go crank up my fan to high for a moment. Well, without rambling on to much longer, I feel honorable mention is deserved here. It was incredibly hard to pick these top 10…runners up: (yes…I realize this is most likely cheating, but hey, couldn’t resist) • The Murders in the Mail: The end scene with the man with the mole on his nose / food fight • Portrait of Maddie: you have your hand on my behind… • Atlas Belched: the stair scene (quite frankly, the one that was the hardest to cut for me). • The Man Who Cried Wife: the car scene – murderer…murderer maybe… • Symphony in Knocked Flat: The date pickup scene. • Tracks of my Tears: Maddies return (Yeah…another hard one to cut…it’s the look they give each other…it gets me every time). It has been great reading everyones top 10 so far – to see some different, but yet, the same perspectives. I can’t wait to see what comes next. Now say bah da dum folks…

Hey, finefinegoodgood, that was FINE!
You're saying you're no writer, but you present your choices in such afresh and hilarious way, just barnstorming! Makes me want to watch them all immediately! And I have seen at least three that will probably be on my own list!!
Great job!
