If we're looking at the character in context, the name was picked by her parents. I don't think parents look at a little baby and say, "Gee, someday she'll get mad all the time, what a pun." They pick your name when you're a few hours old; often they even had it picked long before then, so it can't have anything to do with personality. You don't have a personality when you're an infant.
Although I think Richard calls her Mads once or something, I don't think anyone actually mentions the idea, "Do they call you that because you're mad all the time?" I just don't remember anyone saying that.
The accountant would have called her by a nickname if he had become friends with her, which I think is what both of them said.

Okey, let´s try this again.
I meant that it was a clever name to give her (assuming the writers named her) given the way she is.

Also,I found on my book,in my attic, the meaning of the name Madeline (and I write this beacuse it's more simple to spell )
"A beautiful woman,Madeline is a person dedicate, sensible and quite strong. She knows how to handle her life. It's a calm person, tender, and very smart."

Maddie's given name is actually spelled Madolyn. It's shown this way in all the scripts.
It is a variation of Madeline..... but I definitely wouldn't agree that she knows how to handle her life.....check season 4!!

Had another thought about this name discussion. In "And the Flesh Was Made Word" Bert sings "Louie, Louie" and I noticed that the name Maddie is from that song. Maybe that's where he got it.

The song from And the Flesh Was Made Word is actually Woolly Bully not Louie Louie but that is a minor quibble. Know ing Glenn's penchant for sixties songs maybe that is where he got the name from!!
What episode does David say "Maddie short for Madolyn meaning tall beautiful blonde woman in a wet slinky nightie." (I'm quoting from memory and the line may not be 100% accurate!)

I think you`ll find that -that particular quote was from Eek A Spouse!. David said it to Maddie outside his office by the doors. The line prior to that was Maddie saying "What did you just call me" I have to say i like this episode quite alot - there were some really tender sweet moments in it.

Diane ~ So THAT'S how they spelled Madolyn, I always wondered, as I have seen it spelled a bunch of different ways. I considered naming my daughter Madolyn, but I ended up not doing so because 1) I would have wanted to spell it the "Moonlighting" way and didn't know which was that was, and more importantly 2) two family members had girls right around when my daughter was born and beat me to it. A shame really, because between the three little girls, my kid is really the Maddie Hayes of the bunch, qute a door-slammer and everything! The other two babies named Maddie couldn't be less like the ML Maddie! Funny how many little girls right now are named Maddie. I wonder if that is a coinkydink? honeyblonde
