Been trolling some other sites and I see there is some individual interest in a Moonlighting movie to wrap things up. I have to rain on that idea; the ending to season 5 was SO BAD that I wonder how it could be built upon.
Problems are many: Cybill Shephard and Bruce Willis are really to old to be playing a sexy couple. Watching the few DVD talkies (OK, I need a better description), it wouldn't work now as a love interest drama. It would require new actors who would be constrained to the Moonlighting rules -- talking at the same time, off color jokes, subtle tension -- that it would probably be quite disappointing for fans of the series.
Where would you start the movie? It should probably start after the laundromat scene in season 4, but with a different ending there and an end to the series. But I cannot see how to build upon that very well that would be interesting. A movie would be just rehashing the old stuff, like any Star Trek movie past the third one. (I think, Spock dies - apologies for the spoiler - but comes back.)
How would you do it? How could it be interesting?

Sorry but I take offense with your statement saying that Bruce and Cybil are too old to play a sexy couple? Are you kidding? I still find Bruce sexier than most men half his age and Cybill is still a beautiful woman. And how could it possible begin after the laundromat scene? They aged 25 years at the laundromat. Longest date in history. I'm sure it would take place years after the original Moonlighting took place and I'm sure it wouldn't be boring. And I'm sure many people would tune in.

I agree, ILD... a ML film for me would have to be a reunion film, situated in the present. Meaning almost 25 years after Lunar Eclipse. It would be a normal thing they have both changed, aged. But that's okay, and it doesn't mean they don't have any more chemistry. I would love to see it. And having them replaced by anybody else - an absolute no-go.

Well someone said (I think it was Kim) that it would be great to start the ML movie the same way the Pilot began: With the view of Maddie's bedroom wall covered with pictures. Only this time it would be family pictures of Maddie, David, their kids. I know this would make so many people happy! P.s. Bruce and Cybill did rock and will rock!

Oh that would be great! But they couldn't be "tooo happy" in the beginning because we still need some of that friction and tension! I think us ML fans should make a stab at a script. Partners in Crime? Diane? Anyone? And I would love to see them together at any age!

I agree guys- how could you say that Bruce and Cyb are too old to be sexy? There's no way that any other actors could capture the chemistry - let's face it, even the more popular detective shows of today try to emulate it but never quite match it! You also could not deny that season 5 did not happen...it would have to pick up on those steps outside the church. However- ML's success was a culmination of the actors, Glenn, fab writers, amazing directors, lighting expert etc etc etc...in its prime, everything worked together and I think it would be hard to re-capture that now. However - I do think that new shows could take a few more risks, stop playing it so safe and try to touch on the fabulous formula that was ML at its best! xx

I kind of agree that they're too old to reprise the roles. Not that they're too old to play "sexy" characters. But I wouldn't want to see old versions of Maddie and David. I wouldn't want to see too young a version of them either. Mid-30s was the ideal age to see those characters, as it fit with their place in life: Maddie being a former model, and David being a guy who has been drifting through life.
They could never recast these roles either. Willis and Shepherd were perfect.
I would like to see maybe a series of collected short stories (each one an episode), in the form of television episode scripts, that continue where Season 3 left off, and end the Moonlighting story right. The way the series took a wrong turn and how it ended was a crime.

No one could replace these two. They were just magic together. But I think it would be great if Glenn Caron wrote a script giving these two characters a happy ending. Bruce and Cybil as David and Maddie could open the movie like they did in some of the shows, in the office, talking to the audience explaining that we're about to see what happened to them after the show was canceled, and that other characters will be portraying their younger selves. Then we see the story play out and at the end cut back to Cybil and Bruce. I just can't picture any actors that could do them justice though. But I would definitely watch it. All these years later I still want a happy ending for these two!
