Bravo to those of you who have completed this arduous task! It was great fun reading your lists. Hope you'll have fun with this:
ME1. As a resident of California for 32 out of my 38 years, I’m probably the closest you’ll come to finding a California “native.” Seriously, nobody was actually born here.
2. I was born in Pittsburgh, PA. I vaguely remember snow, but I miss what I remember about it.
3. My commute from home to work is 90 miles.
4. A stranger on Amtrak recently commented that he couldn’t place me age-wise. He remarked that some of my responses put me in my 20s, some in my 80s, and the rest somewhere in between. The guy was creepy (as many on the train are), but I found his observation quite interesting.
5. I love wine. Mostly red, but throw in a Sauvignon Blanc every once in a while and I’m a happy camper. A friend of mine calls me a connoisseur: hardly. I consult BevMo.com for my wine selections.
6. I am half-German, or somewhat-German anyway. My mother was born and raised in Germany, but she insists I’m not a true half-breed because she is part French. Plus, on my father’s side there’s Russian and other heritage. Just call me Mutt.
7. I am not the least bit Italian; however, I reside in the Little Italy section of San Diego, I love Italian food, and Italy is #1 on my list to revisit (first time=5 years old).
8. I work in the cinema tech industry and yet, I have only been to the movies 3 times in the past year. Guess you could say I’m “selective.”
9. I am "Auntie Martina" to three kids: Owen, 11, is into baseball, skateboarding, and posting on his brand new FB page
; Gemma, 9, has a passion for ice skating; and Ruby, nearly 3, is the triple threat of the family, with an emphasis on dance. We've seen her perform like Mick Jagger--no lie. Hysterical.
10. I lived in San Antonio, Texas for a year with a guy I thought was The One. I thought wrong.
11. Although I’ve lived in San Diego--“Top Gun” territory--almost my whole life, my Twitter name has nothing to do with it. Or Tom Cruise.
12. I am on the Board of Directors for a small non-profit organization in the role of Fundraising Coordinator.
13. I love reading, although I don’t get much time for it with these 12-hour days. I have Ayn Rand waiting for me on my nightstand: first up, “The Fountainhead,” then the obvious, “Atlas Shrugged.”
14. Last year I received a Kindle for Christmas from my parents, who were fully aware that I am Anti-Kindle. They agreed to return it and give me the $ to buy something I REALLY wanted. I gave my new Michael Kors handbag a nickname: Kindle.
15. I pride myself on being different. Therefore, I waited and waited for the right Android to come along, and now I’m in love: HTC Rhyme. It’s not perfect, but it’s perfect for ME.
MOONLIGHTING & METhere may be some repeats here folks, but bear with me:
1. I had written a piece last year in Maddie’s Season 4 voice and planned to read it at our fundraising event but chickened out a couple of weeks prior. Of course, if all of you had been out there in the audience, I would have read it for sure!
2. At the venue where this event took place sits a grand piano. For this year’s show I picture myself lying on said piano in a black velvet gown, gloves, and fake diamonds singing “I Told Ya I Love Ya Now Get Out!” Oh, if I could muster up the courage…
3. This is the 2nd longest time Moonlighting has been part of my life, the longest of course being when it first aired. Lifetime and Bravo aired it before websites started cropping up, so I didn’t have people to share it with like the first time.
4. My 6th grade teacher and I had a Wednesday morning ritual of saying our favorite lines from the night before. The one line I distinctly remember him sharing is “Gimme a Bloody Mary…easy on the Blood, heavy on the Mary” which means it was December 11, 1985—the morning after “Atlas Belched” first aired.
5. As elementary school graduation approached, I went looking for an outfit and came across a red suit that was, despite its hue, completely Maddie-esque. It was at least one size too big and I nearly drowned in the shoulder pads, but I loved it. I wish I still had it.
6. I had a Season 5 Maddie perm during Season 4.
7. My “Dream Sequence” script now has two autographs: Debra Frank and Neil Mandelberg
8. A college friend came to visit last October. After we watched an episode, he opened my “Dream Sequence” script and wanted to act out the opening scene between Maddie and David (at the nightclub). We had a ball.
9. I have such a distinct memory of watching the pilot: we used to have burgundy leather furniture in the family room, and I was seated in the big overstuffed chair facing the TV. I must have been watching “Who’s the Boss” at 8 pm and seen the preview for the Pilot when they reran it in the summer. I was utterly awestruck and mesmerized, until it went to commercial at the 1st hour; I clasped my hands together, pleading the TV to bring Maddie and David back to me. It worked.
10. I think Mary Hart reported in the summer of ’86 that Cybill was going to be on the cover of the September Harper’s Bazaar. I was at Sav-On Drug Store and squealed when I found it on the newsstand. A Maddie’s Girl from the start!
11. I asked my parents to record Moonlighting the week I was away at 6th grade camp. Upon my return, I threw a hissy fit when my mother said, “Umm…we forgot.” Yes, I was a brat.
12. Not only do I have a friend who doesn’t “get” Maddie, but I also have one who doesn’t “get” Bruce Willis’ appeal. There are other actors that she doesn’t find particularly attractive, but she understands why women do. Not the case with Bruce. *gasp*
13. I love that I’ve had the opportunity to view this show from two different perspectives: me, an adolescent idolizing Cybill/Maddie and MAJORLY crushing on Bruce/David; me, a grown woman about the same age as Maddie, finding relatable qualities in her--and David, and analyzing every breath, look, thought, word, move, action, motivation of both characters…40 ways to Sunday.
14. I love that after all these years, after all the times I’ve re-watched these episodes, I still manage to discover new things. In fact, I think something popped into my noggin just this week that I hadn’t thought of before. Unfortunately, if I don’t get these gems down on paper within 5 seconds, they’re gone.
15. I am glad that I bought the DVDs in 2009 and immediately trolled the internet looking for any articles, interviews, and information I could find about Moonlighting. Because of this search, I came across davidandmaddie.com, the forum, and all these wonderfully bright, clever, perceptive, insightful, quirky, funny characters who are happy to indulge my obsession. Thank you everyone for sharing yourselves with me and for bringing my game up!
