Hi, I'm new here, to this board. I'm also a new fan to Moonlighting. Unfortunately, I was too young at the time to really even watch the show when it originally aired. But, I'm loving every minute of these special DVDs. I've made it through "Brother, Can You Spare Me a Blond?" This one, by far, is my favorite episode.
I know it sounds weird, but my favorite scene is right after when David hands Maddie the $$ that he got from Richard. Then, Agnes is persistent over the bank account issue and David argues with her. The moment gets so intense when David gets angry. You can see his raw emotions and his obvious love for Maddie. Unfortunately, he takes his frustrations out on poor Miss DiPesto, but it created a wonderful scene. And then, after the bathroom incident, it's good to see Agnes step up and express herself. David must've felt all but 2 inches tall after she got through with him.
After the episode came to a close, I rewound and watched the scene like 3 more times. It gave me such goosebumps.

hi again Matthew
I was too young to remember ML when it was first on too. We're so lucky to get the chance to relive it now. My parents remember it and they think I'm crazy to be so obsessed!
Brother Can you Spare a Blonde is a great episode. There are so many good bits. I liked the scene that you referred to. It's the first time that you really see David jealous and though he usually takes his frustration out on the wrong person/bathroom appliance, I always really feel for him.
I love the scene just after when David gatecrashes Maddie and Ritchie's boardgame. Maddie seems to be about to admit that she has feelings for David when he barges in. And the fight scene that follows is really funny. I watched Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason last night, and it reminds me a bit of the fight scene between Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver. In one of the interviews with Hugh Grant he says that when you see people really fighting, they are rarely throwing punches or anything. And it made me think of this scene.
I also love the scene when David and Maddie are in the mens dressing room and Maddie says 'when you've seen one guy in his socks you've seen 'em all, right?' That's a great line and it's rare that Maddie gets a line like that, it's always David that makes all the glib one liners. I wouldn't want to see her do it all the time, but when she does do it, it's all the more funnier.
Love Gem

I just re-watched this episode last night. When it was first aired (back in the '80s) I don't think I fully appreciated it. Sure, I always liked it, but I didn't get all the subtle details.
I think the thing that hit me was, like others have said, how close to the surface and how raw David's emotions were. He usually is so "up." Such an "up" person, always glib and cheerful (well, usually). And to see him glower, sulk, and have a hissy fit—well, it was a little shocking. But in typical David fashion, he couldn't even keep in a glum, angry mood for too long. When he is in the bathroom and gets water all over his pants, you see him look up at himself and recognize the absurdity of his situation. And then he immediately does that little "dance" under the bathroom hand dryer. Typical David. Always "up."
It's a really good episode.

I think the thing that hit me was, like others have said, how close to the surface and how raw David's emotions were. I've got to agree with Elvira on this one. I always wondered whether his emotions were close to the surface because of his feelings for Maddie or whether he was always like that. He seems like a wounded animal whenever his past loves came back (Gillian/Tess), so its clear that when he does fall for someone, he falls for them BIG time... Mul

...and is it just me, or doesn't that make him even more adorable?

Nope it's not just you, Babyhayes, he's made all the more adorable because he's been hurt and his emotions are so raw at times. I still remember how I really felt his pain when he got to Maddie's door to tell her he loved her and then Sam opened the door.. Argh... But hey, that's for Season 3 discussions!

And when will the Season 3 DVDs be released?!?! I'm greedy and impatient. I have the Season 3 VHS tapes I made somewhere (but alas, not here in California with me), and it has been years since I've seen them. ::whimper whimper::
To quell my impatience, I may be forced to see "Brother . . ." again. Sigh.
