Yes, it is just terribly sad. A side issue that rather surprised me was that the writing for the episode is credited to Glenn Caron and Charles Eglee, who had been on the show since its start, and it always bothered me that they would want to throw in such a hostile and devastating plotline. It just derails the building theme in the story of the possibility for real happiness in the future. If it hadn't happened, you could really see that David would have just been agog with joy when that kid came along. Could see him playing with the kid, running full-tilt chasing him around the house... Would have made for an interesting plotline if D. tried to sneak out to a clinic one day and get a paternity test... But it was not to be. I don't see why they thought the audience wouldn't have been interested in that. It didn't have to turn into a 'family sitcom,' as in boring and samey, if that's what they were afraid of. With better writing they could have kept everything as sharp and interesting as ever and still have them raise the kid. Characters don't have to do, or not do, anything until and unless the writers make them that way! I mean, these characters are people who couldn't be boring if they tried. It always makes me angry that the writers took this away from the audience. I mean, who are they writing it for? Us! It's as if they forced us to sit through things nobody in their right mind would have ever wanted to see. Yes, we all know about the issues surrounding writing and production in the last couple of years, and perhaps one can sympathize up to a point, because those were some tough things to deal with. But I'll always feel, da*n, did they have to do that? Sad's the right word for it.

24 days and counting...three weeks from next Tuesday! ;D Let me say that I cannot wait for the commentaries on the various episodes. I know there's one we're all particularly eager about--and rightly so ;D--but I hope we get comments from someone on almost every episode. I really would like to get to know a lot of the different opinions of the production people as well as the actors on various shots, plot points and things, especially in the arc episodes. There are so many things, questions in my mind, little bits of information I've wanted filled in, somebody's opinion on why things look and happen a certain way--the commentaries on the first DVD set were fun, but I'd like to hear a lot more. If you're a fan of the artistic value of something, information like this is just a thrill. Here's something interesting I found in a post on imdb.com: a trailer for Season 3. It's mistakenly labeled Seasons 1 & 2. (The same site has another segment from the show, different season but fun to watch if you're so inclined.)

Maddie becomes David’s new boss, and while their personalities clash, a sexual tension arises in the time they spend together. But the question always remains… will they or won’t they? The DVD set comes with special features that fans of the show will love including: Memories of Moonlighting - A half-hour documentary about the third season, featuring exclusive interviews with cast and crew, including new cast member Curtis Armstrong, and the long-awaited reunion of Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis! So! Who's planning a marathon, i.e. when they get their hands on the DVDs, going home to plunk them straight into the player one after the other and watching all the episodes in one long, sleep-defying rush--versus parsing them out, one or two per day, maybe calling some friends over, making it sort of a film festival thing? ;D I'm lucky, I have teacher training classes but they only meet two days a week. Time enough for either approach. Nice work if you can get it.

It depends on what day they arrive really. I'm probably going to go straight to the documentary and Atomic Shakespeare commentaries!
Are you a teacher too, queensgirl?

I just started taking the classes necessary to get my teaching license. I should be done in about four months. After that I'll be able to start working in a school. (I already have my B.A. and graduate school under my belt, which is why the training program is so short.)

Cool! Good luck with your training. What ages will you be teaching? And what subject? I teach comprehensive, which is 11 to 16 and I teach Welsh as a second language. It's extremely hard work, but can be very rewarding.

My hope is to one day teach honors literature classes in high school, or even college. Other possibilities include tutoring or becoming a librarian. But they'll probably make me start out as an assistant or substitute teacher for the younger grades. If I teach in elem. it'll be all subjects. If I wind up somewhere else, I'd like to specialize in English, art or history.

Funny thing I saw today: TV.com has an animated ad for the Season 3 set. Click it and it goes to Amazon. The pictures at the top, and the reviews at the bottom, are for Season 3, but the description of the plot and such, the official Amazon blurb material in other words, is all for the pilot. That's right. The one-volume release of the pilot from years ago. Oh, dear. ;D
