...It's because the actor who played him, Joel Colodner, also starred in a Remington Steele episode with a somewhat similar plotline.

Etched in Steele featured Colodner as--get this--a beleaguered husband, Mitchell Knight, who dies in what may be a homicide.

He just can't buy a break! ;D
