Despite (and because of) everything, David is more important to her than Blue Moon. That is just huge, and David must know this (Do you think David knows this?). Of course he knows this. I had the impression that when LaSalle tries to talk Maddie into taking back Blue Moon, David holds his breath when he watches Maddies reaction. And that reaction satisfies him deeply - she acts towards LaSalle as if to her it's ridiculous even to think about it, as if she didn't care a flying fig about getting Blue Moon back, and never a shadow of doubt on her face. But of course she couldn't fool him... Yes, he knew she wanted the agency back very much, but that mere fact - her wanting everything back, thus declaring it's not just business - was all he needed to know, and therefore he could make his sacrifice lightly without a regret, without giving a second thought on what could be. And so he did. They did. *sigh* That's why I love this ep so much. A 9 from me.

A solid David and Maddie episode WITHOUT them together! Like Sleep Talkin' Guy this episode manages to mix things up by doing the unthinkable: separating our beloved D/M for half an episode... and pulling it off by making the scenes with them together a treat! As a child of the 80s it was great fun to see Cousin Larry out on the case with David (to da dump, to da dump, to da dump, dump, dump dump ;D), while watching Maddie slowly realize just how much she's changed and what this crummy agency really means to her is a turning point in the series that I don't think gets enough credit for its significance. The scene at Maddie's house where David "hires" her is so hot I can't even stand it. Moonlighting with David and Maddie apart is usually a nightmare... meet one of the few exceptions to the rule.

Watching this one again I just want to say I love love love the way Maddie is looking at David in the scene after he has told Phil to give up the roledex. His back is to her so he doesn't see, but she has this look of so much admiration. And I thought the scene where she turns back around is significant as that is when Lou is saying we found a hero, of course he's talking about Phil, but Maddie found her hero. He may come in hung over and act immature at times, but when it comes to the important things he always comes through for her. So wish she could have remembered these sweet things about David in later seasons.
