In the beloved garage scene, just who do you think initiated that kiss?

Yummy! This is a good question to think about. I think that Maddie was certainly willing and waiting for it, but that David took the initiative and leaned in. She met him full on though.

Yeah, it looks like Maddie totally jumps on him, doesn't it? I can't really tell who initiated though...
All I know is I was on the phone immediately after with my cousin shrieking about what we just saw! That kiss was HUGE!

Hmm, what a great question! I'll give you a definitive answer once I can look this frame by frame on my DVD when it arrives!!! :-)
However, I do think David leaned in first, but as soon as he leaned in, Maddie jumped in with both feet...or both lips of course!
What I love about this kiss, is that it starts off really frantic and they both sorta relax into it (we could start another thread about whether Maddie's knees do buckle or not of course). Pure chemistry...

Yeah I agree that David initiated the kiss, course Maddie didn't need encouraging! I love it - lots of pent-up passion there I think and I love the way at the end of the show they both deny it was a meaningful kiss, when actually they both want to talk about it!

That kiss is just so hot! Both of them were totally into it. It lasted a good long time too. Then when they pulled apart, I like how they both looked so surprised. David looked stunned and Maddie confused.
I think that both of them wanted to kiss but the passion of it and the response from the other totally shook them up.

I think Maddie was running to him to give him a hug, but David pulled her in for a kiss. So, I think he started it, but she certainly was not against it once it got under way. *wink*

I agree completely with Lori. When Maddie moved toward David, I think she wanted to take back her earlier hurtful comment that he smelled bad. And realizing he really was leaving "for good", wanted to (at least) hug him again. So David took advantage of this second opportunity of having Maddie in his arms and went for it, and she responded.
"Pent up passion" is right, BabyHayes! For several incredible seconds, they were fully expressing their true feelings for one another for the first time. It was a moment so totally removed from the fearful situation and place they were really in, that it was stunning to both of them. I loved David's dazed, open-mouth look! Unfortunately, too soon they recovered, and the walls of denial were up again.
This scene knocked my socks off 20 years ago, and it still does-and the picture quality of the DVDs makes it even better! My only complaint is that purse gets in my view. I wish it had fallen to the floor!

Finally Maddie is spontanious!
I think David leaned in a little bit but Maddie actually jumped in and started it. To go in denial is just their thing. But I like the way they look at eachother at the end of that kiss. Maddie has a bit of a smile on her face when she asks David: "What was that?"
David: "What was what?" Maddie (smile on her face): "That, what we just did, what was that?"
But as soon David said he didn't do it (or something) Her smile disappears and they both go into denial. Of course it meant something for them, otherwise David would never have brought it up again at the end of the episode.

Ooooo....how I love this thread!!
I definately agree that Maddie wanted to apologize for saying saying he smelled bad. That she just wanted to hug him again, tell her she was sorry and say goodbye to him 'properly'. But I think when she grabbed him, that 'itch' could be denied no longer. He leaned in, she started to jump on him, and he just 'grabbed' her around the waist. Yee-ouch what a hot scene!!

I just hate when I accidentally hit 'enter' and my post 'posts'. I wasn't finished yet!! You know how they always said that they used to get in a fight before they had to actually fight.... I wonder what they did to prep for this scene??? *VBEG* Ok, now I'm done with my post. ~blue moon girl

David started it, but with no resistence from Maddie.
That was a pretty shocking development. When I first saw it, I thought, "Well, this will change everything forever." But of course, within a few seconds, they were busy denying, denying, denying . . .

He leaned in, she started to jump on him, and he just 'grabbed' her around the waist. Yee-ouch what a hot scene!! It is SOOO hot, it's great - love it, love it, love it! I think I find it so great because the kiss is accompanied by silence. Usually, ML is quick banter, dialogue or music, but for those few seconds the quietness of the scene just adds to the intensity, tension and spontaneity, as though the writers are taken aback and couldn't find any music to go with it!! Well, there's my thoughts anyway....
