Why the title for this episode?

Just wondering what everyones speculation would be as to why they chose the title "Funeral for a Door Nail" for this episode?

My thoughts are that Maddie and David "hammer" away the idea that they once again disagree on a case, but it is also a reflection of their relationship at this point. They had a choice to go to a wedding together in Chicago, but instead, against David's wishes, of course, stay and deal with the fake death of a client's wife.

The title comes from two references that are combined.

Elton John did a song entitled "Funeral for a Friend". The other reference is the saying "Dead as a doornail."

I did some reading about the source of the expression, and a doornail is one of the heavily studded nails on the outside of a medieval door, most probably the one that the knocker rests on. (Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere near "big knockers")

Most of ML's episode titles have their inspirations in either literary or song titles, although I do like your analysis of the theme.

This has spurred me on to research a little more and this is what I found.

The song "Funeral for a Friend" is an instrumental only tune that Elton John wrote when thinking about what he would like to have played at his own funeral. This eventually evolved into the song "Love Lies Bleeding", .....(hmmmm!)....... which is a song about a broken relationship. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin.

This is where it gets good. Here are the lyrics:
