Or is this not a fave episode for others too?
There's just not enough Dave and Maddie for my taste. The end bit is great of course, but I can't seem to sit through the rest of this one. Haven't watched it in ages. I rank the Agnes and Bert eps above this one for entertainment value.
Have I dismissed it too hastily? What am I missing?

I don't know, I thought it was pretty funny. It is very detached from the normal methods of doing the story; why would anybody, even Dave, who can be a shyster when he wants, accept someone into the agency as the third detective--not even a junior assistant something-or-other--on such little notice? Still, I thought this episode had its moments, and I like it much better than most people tend to.

I was never fond of this episode either. I watched it over the summer for the first time in years and I still didn't enjoy it. I agree, there's not enough David and Maddie in this one. And, it feels too much like another show at certain points in the episode. I wish I liked it, but it just doesn't work for me.

I think this one and North by North are the 2 I have watched the least of the seasons 1,2 DVDs. I guess maybe because these 2 just don't show enough of David and Maddie.

This episode was crap. Judd Nelson gots as much screen time as David. OK that is an exaggeration, but I felt that it was incredibly boring. Devil with a Blue Dress On. Funny at first, but tired me quickly. And what was the point of the episode, anyway? Other that too feature two "it" people for the season finale and diffuse things to close out the year. And why is Cybil driving a K-car off the lot? Huh?

I think crap is too strong a word! Below par perhaps! I remember watching this episode when it first aired and really enjoying it. Since getting the DVDs and re-watching it and reading other people's analyses of it I have to say I think it is not one of the best. For too much of the episode it seems as if it is not ML but another show instead. I know ML was renowned for breaking the rules but this rule breaking worked best within certain clearly defined parameters and I think Camille goes beyond those parameters. In saying that there are some charming moments in this one. Not sure what a K-car is michaeldorsey. Is this an American term? On another note there is much talk elsewhere on this forum about the censors and how they were really strict - well there is a line from Whoopi when she is talking to a customer in the hairdressing salon about a fellow with a very long tongue and how it (the line not the tongue) got past the censors is beyond me!!!

Well, I didn't like this episode.. There were no enough David and Maddie, and it wasn't funny at all. And, I really, really hate when actors speak to camera or to director..

Mike is right! Are we to believe that Cybill drives a Dodge 600 K-Car? I will buy the bit of Bruce in a Sting Ray drop-top, but movie stars don't drive around in front drive econoboxes! Maybe a nice Mercedes or Audi, but never something destined for the rental car fleets!
Overall I just didn't like this episode when it first came out, and having watched it again on DVD I must say nothing has changed. I think the comments of it feeling like a completely different show are dead on. If I would have turned on this episode in the middle, I would have turned it off after 5 minutes thinking ML was pre-empted by some bad movie of the week.

Not one of my favorites. I do like the last scene with D&M saying goodbye. I thought it was gonna be really funny with Whoopi there.

Don't like this one either. I watched it once when I first got the DVD, but never again. I must admit that I have watched just the "good bye" ending a few times, but wouldn't waste my time on the episode.

This episode is quite different from the Moonlighting "norm". It tries to be funny, but overall it was like some its-season-over-lets-do-something-silly episode. It had some funny scenes however.
I do not remember if this episode ever aired in Greece.

Not my favourite either! I usually like Whoopi in other things, and she's quite amusing even in this, but it doesn't feel like an episode of ML until the end. I think I've only seen it once since getting the DVDs actually... I think I'll watch it again of course, as I'm currently in a "must watch all episodes in order from beginning to....um.....perhaps not end" phase!

ETA: You're quite right, Funkycat, how on earth did this line get past the censors?!!? Blimey!

I was just thinking the other day how few times I've watched this episode.
I agree with everyone that there isn't enough David and Maddie, but also think that with all of the great moments that took place in Season 2, this was a poor finale. After the great garage scene in "Witness For the Execution", fans really did expect the season to end on a more romantic note.
