Whoopi Goldberg was nominated for that category for her appearance in this episode. Imogene Coca was also nominated for her role as Agnes' mother, Clara, in Los Dos Dipestos, Season 4, 1988. I'm really surprised Mark Harmon was never named for his role as Sam. Maybe because he was in four episodes, not just one. Wonder if that's a standard they have? Hmm. (Even in season 2, they still missed Dana Delaney in Knowing Her--and if there's some kind of rule about 'one episode,' she'd still meet it!) Rules is rules, and parts is parts, and in any awards decision, there are going to be some deserving people left out. Still, it's a shame.

I don't think that the Emmys have a rule about a 'guest star' being in only one episode of a show because Bruce Willis got his second Emmy for his appearance in Friends and he guested in 3 episodes. I agree about Mark Harmon - why wasn't he nominated? Maybe his part wasn't as 'showy' as Whoopi or Imogene's? Who knows how the system works. Who knows how a show as great as ML won so few Emmys!!!!

Looks like Mark Harmon was beat out by the guest stars of L A Law and St. Elsewhere. But, talking about Moonlighting Emmy wins, it is interesting to see how many nominations "Atomic Shakespeare" got and how frequently it was pitted against another ML episode, "I Am Curious... Maddie." The complete 1987 Emmy listings can be found at imdb: www.imdb.com/Sections/Awards/Emmy_Awards/1987You have to admit, the number of nominations for ML is impressive - to say the least!
