I like the fact that David talks about McGullicuddy even before we get to meet him, in Gunfight at the so so corral. Im gonna kill McGullicuddy today, he says. He uses the name as if it was just any name, but I watched the 2-5th season, before the 1st, thats why I noticed it right away. Wow. Thanks for noticing that, because MacGillicudy makes no actual appearances on the show in person until the third season--the first time he's in the credits is in "The Man Who Cried Wife," ep. 2 of Yr. 3. (And he's not written into the first draft of that show, which makes this even more weird.) I'm unaware of any other mentions of him from I guess "Gunfight" onward. Unless, that was, in one of those times they're talking about the background presence that is the rest of the staff--those random lines about someone having messed something up or being up for a review. You know, when Maddie is ticked about the budget being high, somebody owed her a report, so on... I'll go back and watch "Gunfight." That's really funny. If he were mentioned in passing so early, it would be pretty odd, as there's no context. Good find! ;D

McGillicuddy has supposedly worked there all along, you never get to see when hes hired anyway. So when they introduced him, as a character, into the show they probably wanted a name used before. Its not the most obvious name to choose, but I like how it sounds! (this is just a guess, I have no idea)

Yes, that's what I would have thought too. It is an odd name, though it's funny, because I was watching an episode of I Love Lucy last night and they mentioned the name MacGillicuddy in that and I thought of this conversation!

Seems you've got it. I've just been watching "The Man Who Cried Wife," and when Mac is first seen in the office, he is indeed addressed as if he was always there, although he, as noted, made no other in-person appearances before that and was referred to just by name. That's funny. They plunk him down at a desk in the middle of the row at the back of the room and we're not supposed to notice that he's never been there in person before? Oh well. I'm just glad he's there. Thanks for the details. ;D

Robert Webber and Eva Marie Saint as Maddie´s parents were my favorite guest appearances in the show. They fitted perfectly together and were the perfect "Maddies parents". The other day I watched the Season 2 opener of "Remington Steele" and guess who plays in there? Jack Blessing aka MacGillicuddy! I almost didn`t recognize him, he looked a lot more younger with more curly hair; he played the guy in his honeymoon whose wife is kidnapped.

Hope I haven't said this already, but I have to put in a word for Donna Dixon as Joan Tenewich in Blonde on Blonde. She's just terrific, appearing for maybe ten minutes at most but presenting one of the most memorable roles in the whole series. She delivers her lines with weird but utterly believable aplomb. And of course she is the first to try and push David toward being able to talk to Maddie. Well done! For all that she's a swindler and a murderer, she's really sweet and charming. I bet real ones aren't like that. Also enjoyed seeing Brad Dourif as Father Donovan in "All Creatures Great and...Not So Great." In spite of David's initial anger at the man for wanting to break with tradition and leave the priesthood, you really do like the guy. He has sincere feelings and wants to help people. He brings out the important themes of forgiveness, wanting to find the truth and moving on with your life so you can be happy and be where you really belong. They could have learned from him!...

Paul Sorvino as David's father was a lot of fun. It's surprising that he's only in one episode--if memory serves me; I don't think he's even mentioned again, except for maybe a few one-liners. That's a shame! I know the actor went on to be in Law and Order for a number of years; that may be the reason. Also regrettable was that David's mother isn't a factor in the show. I bet someone like her would have to be hilarious! There's another person who is spoken of very little, except for that time there's the call about the Emmys and then the card announcing that she died. Before that, I would have liked to have seen her in the show. Just to kind of round things out, and to see if she was different from David. It would be great to see if there were actually one person on the planet who could convince him to put a sock in it! ;D

Love Gem I just thought it was worth mentioning that Lucy Ricardo's maiden name in I Love Lucy was - you guessed it - MacGillicuddy!
