Okay...what happened to it? Maddie lent it to Dave to drive home after they drove back to her house (following the garage incident). She then said she'd have somebody pick it up the next day. This may be a question that was answered within the first few episodes, and if so I'll probably kick myself and laugh for forgetting it, but do we really ever see her driving this car again? Did she sell it? What happened? (If she still had the red car around the time of her trouble paying the property taxes on her house, she could have sold it, I bet that would have gotten a pretty penny. Just a thought. But I guess that wouldn't have worked, because they decided to write the story another way by the time "Brother" rolled around.) I say this because for most of the rest of the series, we see her driving the silver BMW as her car; sometimes it's also used as the company car. I just can't for the life of me remember what the heck happened to the red one. (That was nice... ) Thank you.

Wasn't it around for "Read the Mind..."? I seem to think so, but my memory's a bit muddy. Although I remember the BMW in that ep too...
It seemed like a funny extravagance of David's, so it would make sense that she sold it pronto.

In season 5, Maddie says she never recalled seeing Davids car, and he says he sold it, or that the repair shop took it since he couldnt pay the repairs. In the pilot, the reason he has to give her the car is because she´s shutting down the business.
My point is, what if he got the car so that they would each have one and he immediately had to repair it and never could afford to pick it up again? Just a theory.

I remember Maddie saying something to David about getting rid of "the company car" and him wailing "the PORSCHE?!" so I'd always assumed that he didn't actually own it, but rather had bought it on the agency's dime. I can't recall ever seeing it again after the pilot episode; they're always riding around in Maddie's BMW. I was watching "Read the Mind..." the other day and they were using a red car as their getaway car after the jumping in the pool in their underwear incident (don't you wonder where they hid the car keys?), but the taillights were wrong for the Porsche we saw in the pilot; I believe the red car in "RtM" was actually a Corvette, but it's shown so briefly that I couldn't say for certain. So maybe Maddie de-Porsche'd David, but he turned around and got Corvetted? (My husband's theory is that it was a rental.) ~taijiya~

That's right, it was a 'vette. Now I remember! Looks like the production powers that were couldn't commit to what Dave should be driving, and finally came to the more interesting, simpler and economical solution of him using the company car, most often in the company of Ms. Hayes.
Regardless, storywise, I see Maddie selling both the Porsche and 'vette right out from under him! Although I seriously have to wonder how David gets around L.A. without a car of his own (mass transit is not this city's strength, I'm afraid). Unless of course he drives the company car home...

Near the end where they head to the clock tower, they drive in the 928 Porsche. Maddie also has a Jag in the pilot that they abandon when the dead mobster shows up in the back.
I don't recall seeing the Red Vette from RTM in any other scenes.
Funny how that lone BMW got used by David AND Maddie when it was convenient. Sometimes it appeared they BOTH had it at the same time (see Eine Klein if you want a very obvious example).
As a sidelight, Magnum PI was supposed to be driving a Porsche, but the company passed on the deal, much to Ferrari's good fortune.

Early in the pilot, Maddie's bronzy-silver BMW was taken by her driver as collateral when her checks bounced. Her lawyer said he would take care of getting it back for her and loaned her his car which was the white Jaguar. Maddie asks David to return all company cars and he says, "not the Porsche!" which was the red car in the pilot. David also refers to "both of them?!" in this conversation. So, I assume the red Corvette seen in "Read the Mind" was the other company car. I guess we can presume that Maddie sold both the Porsche and the Corvette. However, I seem to remember that in the episode with Gillian that David is driving the red Corvette when he meets Gillian in the park. Will have to rewatch it and see. Having lived at one time in LA for many years, it is ridiculous that David doesn't have a car, but I think the writers suspended reality there for the sake of all of those great in car bicker-fests that we know and love.

Hahaha.....it really is silly thinking a grown man with David's David-ness wouldn't have, need, require a car.....but you're right....the plot points wouldn't be the same without them sharing.

I was doing a rewatch recently. I have never noticed how the 928 red Porsche just disappeared before. I googled it and found this forum. Some interesting answers on here.
But I also found a deleted Season 1 scene on YouTube. It is basically an alternative version of the scene where David interaptted Maddie's date with the doctor in the restaurant trying to pitch to her not to close the detective agency. In this version it appears Maddie has invited the doctor to her house and David breaks and enters her house. She accuses him of that but he tells her it is not breaking and entering but rather breaking and returning because he is returning to her 2 company cars each worth 40 000 dollars. So good luck to her trying to tell the police he wronged her.
We know that the Porsche was a company car because David said so in the pilot during their first interaction. So from this scene it appears that David returned the red Porsche and one more car to Maddie. We can assume she sold them since she was in financial trouble.
We then start seeing them both driving Maddie' silver BMW. It appears that David did not have a car of his own and didn't get another company car as he admits he doesn't have a car in season 3 (on the dinner with Sam and Maddie). Which is also evident when he asks Bert to borrow his car so that he can follow Maddie in Blonde to Blonde. Herbert whines about his car being brand new so they end up following Maddie to the bar together. In season 4 David smashes Maddie's BMW while she is in Chicago. In season 5 he lies to Maddie that his car is in repair. She gifts him an awful car that he hates and tries to get rid of. It ends up smashed after one of the chases in the same episode it was gifted to him.
So yes it appears that despite being the person constantly driving and chasing people, David never actually had a car on Moonlighting.
At times there appear to be some inconsistencies, though, as it appears that they use the BMW at the same time.

I was just wondering, have you continued with your Moonlighting rewatch? Which episode did you watch last? Also, I think that what you saw on Youtube is actually Bruce's audition with Cybill. Do you have a link to that video?
