OMG, can I tell you I actually laughed out loud when I read your post. "back in the day," I say that all the time. In fact, I actually just told one of my friends how I used to make ML mixes by taping the songs off the radio. And, I used to put clips from the show too. It makes me smile to hear that others did the same thing. Al Jarreau was performing here over the summer, but I couldn't get out of work. You have no idea how badly I wanted to go to that concert. I hope he comes around again.

Glad I could make you lol, bluemooner. ;D I don't think it's a co-ink-e-dink that so many of us did that. I actually still have some of those tapes. I would love to get them on cd at some point. Ya know...just to keep around in case I ever wanted to listen to them again.

I did that too!! OMG!
MP3, so I already had them on cd. I have no idea where they are right now though since I moved twice in a really short time and things got lost... I even lost my wireless mouse
I had Moonlighting clips on it, songs from the series, some cabaret from Cybill. I listened to it during Math and Art class ;D

I never taped ML onto cassette tapes but i did tape my fave couple scenes from an old soap opera years ago and used it when i went on my first plane ride.
Something ML cute related: The other day one of my 3 years old twin sons came up to me and said "Hi Maddie I'm David". Now i know my sons have been watching to much ML LOL

For me ML is when I go to the Fairground (they do in my home town in summer days all years) and I go into Bumper Cars. Now you can imagine I act like David sometimes when I feel like someone is chaising me.... ;D

Very cool! And you actually listened to them during class. How daring. Well, everyone listened to music. But just when we had to work for our own and the teacher just had to babysit us a bit Also art class was just about drawing and painting so after the assignment was explained and we actually started to draw or paint, we could do whatever we wanted. I even listened to Cybs cd during drawing for a test. (got an 8 out of 10 for that one )

Today I went to a pal's home since she miss some school days and I visit her today. I bring my ML Dvd's and the funny thing today that I was singing "Good Lov'in" at my way to her home and to my other way back to school. Some people look to me like "what's she singing?"
Lol ;D

Awww, bless!! ;D I have to say also that I am really jealous of those that were able to do ML stuff "back in the day". When I'm watching the episodes I am always wondering how people reacted when they watched it for the first time "live" so to speak. I mean, how did people react to the kiss in Witness, to the dates in Symphony, to the Big Bang and all the less enjoyable stuff too in Season 4 and she-who-must-not-be-named. Don't get me wrong I am SOOO pleased to have discovered ML, but I really wish I could have been there 20 years ago too.

Well BabyHayes I did watch them as they were first aired in Australia back in 1986-1988. I didn't discover the show until Lady in the Iron Mask and then Channel 9 who had the rights here in Oz sort of scrambled some of the others up but I do vividly remember starting '87 with the knowledge that something BIG was going to happen. Channel 9 aired Season 3 and we didn't have the same sort of delays that America experienced because our episodes were screened at later dates anyway. Consequently, through massive media coverage we all already knew that Maddie and David were going to get 'horizontal' we just didn't know when/how it was going to happen! Each episode was an event. I never made any other social arrangements for that night and I taped all the episodes. I had a diary (ostensibly for work!) into which I would write the title and what each episode was going to be about. I was such an enormous fan. I still think it is interesting that ML was probably the first show where fans would refer to each episode by its title. I can remember a good friend of mine was also seriously into ML and after every show (it was aired on a Thursday night) either she would ring me or I would ring her and we would have a post mortem about the episode. I remember watching the promo for the next episode at the end of each week. I would then spend the whole week in a state of delicious anticipation waiting. The episodes beginning with Blonde on Blonde were screened on successive weeks and I can remember the anticipation building. When The Big Bang aka I Am Curious Maddie aired I remember watching with my flatmate. We thought it was great!! Of course it was done so well and after this much lead up there is no doubt that the culmination had to be both fiery and passionate (which of course it was ) I continued to watch Season 4 which I could hardly wait for as after To Heiress Human ML didn't come on again for about 5 months until 1988. I watched and recall thinking that there were some seriously great elements here but that something intangibly special had been lost. I don't believe that ML jumped the shark because they 'did it' but the fins were certainly circling because of the contorted storylines devised to 'plausibly' keep M & D apart due to circumstances beyond control. To the best of my knowledge Channel 9 never aired Season 5 (or at least not in prime time but I could be wrong) so I am anxious to see the DVDs when they come out. My one regret about ML is that the internet did not exist 'back in the day'. I can only imagine the forums and speculation that would have occurred. Anyhoo, this has been a long post but thought you might want to hear from someone who lived through the experience!!!!

Well i was about 13 when it first aired `live` in 1985 and although it was a popular show in the the UK it wasn`t shown on what we would call the main TV channel ( we only had 4 channels in the UK back then ,i know thats hard to believe but thats us Brits for yer!) anyway because of this it took a little longer for us to fall for this fantastic show , I must confess it wasn`t untill i found my Dad watching it( about half way through season 1) and sat down with him to see what he was laughing at that i sat up and took notice . From what i recall media coverage was pretty much average ( mainly relagated to the TV Guides) i would say that around the end of the 2 season and especailly the beginning of the 3 season that it really did become a water cooler show . News of Cybill and Bruces fighting and questions of their relationship started to creep in to the mainstream press ( i remember cutting every little titbit or article that i could find and making a scrap book). And the best part was when all my friends and everyone , including the teachers, at school started to talk about it. I think i`ve already mentioned before that the day after the `big bang` episode we had a group discussion about it in class . Its funny but i can`t remember exactly when peoples interest of the show stopped( i suppose it was a gradual thing , i know that a few of my close friends-like myself- still loved the show right to the end, but i had finished school by then and started college so it was only the friends that i has still kept intouch with . But there is one thing that i will never forget , the feeling of sadness and sheer emptiness that i felt at the end of Lunar Eclipse and the final realisation that there was going to be no more Moonlighting ever! But it answer to your question , it was great being there and living through all the hubbub, and i thank my lucky stars that i was old enough to experience it all.

I have been a Moonlighting fan since the first airing of the pilot. What I remember most about "back in the day" is the anticipation. We were always anticipating something, far beyond the ever looming "will they or won't they" question. Will we get a new episode? Will it progress the storyline? If we get a new episode, will both David and Maddie be in it? Will they be in the same scene? The same room? It was enough to give a devoted viewer a nervous breakdown. *L* When BRAVO re-aired the series in the 1990's, I was so happy to see it again, though I could still clearly recall the extreme frustration of the earlier years, always waiting for that new episode while trying to follow all of the finger-pointing over who was at fault for the delays that was going on in the press. Getting the series on DVD has been heaven. The commentaries beautifully explain what really went on during production, making it so much easier to just sit back and enjoy the ride (though I would still like to see a reunion episode as I think the characters deserve a happier ending.)

Oh wow, that is so cool to hear what you guys did when it was shown for the first time! I can just picture scrap books and phone calls being made and class discussions - fantastic! The anticipation is actually something I can understand, but not to the same extent I'm sure. In NZ, the show was shown daily at 9am a couple of years ago now, but that 23 hours between the episodes felt so long. I can only imagine what a week felt like and as for waiting months for the next instalment well that must have been unbearable.
Thanks for sharing your fond memories peeps!!!
