I wonder if anyone else has noticed features of ML which recur from episode to episode. For example, in almost every episode there is a shot of Maddie's feet. Elsewhere people have commented on David's interesting choice of loafers. Obviously his feet are frequently in shot too.
One other recurring image I have is of the headlight of the BMW on the driver's side. The image of it as the car pulls in to stop is used a number of times. I think this makes ML more film-like than TVish but would be most interested in what other folk think.

This isn't an image as such, but we frequently see our heroes in repeat outfits. I read an interview with costume deisgner Robert Turturice where he stated that he tried to have them wear one familiar outfit in each episode. He felt that it added continuity, a real life quality. Maddie wore the blue/gray belted dress (and later unbelted) in several episodes. On several occasions she also wore the white jacket with white stripes, the tan outfit with what appears to be suede on the shoulders, etc. David frequently wears the gray loafers and usually wears the same type white dress shirt with faint gray stripes, pocket with button. We see his brown winter overcoat when he goes to Connecticut and NY. He repeats jackets and ties as well. I think this was a great and subtle way to make us feel as if we know them and see them on regular basis.

I totally agree. That's one of the reasons I love this show. Hmm, I have to think of some more examples things that recur.

I was just on another thread and it occurred to me that the consistent use of Motown music is another example of a recurring motif! ;D

The door slamming is another good example of one of the 'rituals' of a ML episode. They even carried it over into the Taming of the Shrew! "Methinks there was something familiar about that!"

A typical David gesture - pushing back his suit jacket and putting his hands in his pockets...

And what about David with his feet up on the desk - his and Maddie's. It is very rare that we actually see him sitting at a desk with his feet on the floor.

I'm sure I have already posted on this thread but it seems to have disappeared. I think I said something about underground garages, but maybe that is somewhere else, hang on I'm going to have a search around the board...!

I think the underground garages was mentioned in Teeny Tiny Little ML Joys, but it is a good example of a recurring scenario. I can think of 3 off the top of my head - in the pilot, witness for the execution and of course in IACM (aka the barrage in the garage). I'm sure there are numerous others if anyone would care to list them!

Let's see. There's Gunfight, Brother, Funeral for a Doornail, The Son Also Rises...any others?

Thought of two more garage episodes - My Fair David and Murder's in the Mail. As another recurring motif, what about the rain - especially rainy nights. I think that was another Glenn Caron fave.

Good one Lin212! Of course the most memorable rainy night is in Blonde on Blonde. I've just finished watching that one. That ending gets me every time.

Another "ritual" is David sitting on the edge of Maddie's desk, Bruce even mentions that in the commentary on one of the DVDs, mentions something about there being a mark on the corner of the desk.
Something I noticed, not really a ritual, but has anyone else noticed that Maddie always sits in the desk chair when they meeti with clients, no matter whose office? Like, if they are meeting a client in David's office, SHE's sitting in his chair and he's off to the side. Like she's always the boss? I'm not sure if this happens 100% of the time, but it happens a lot.
Just my 2ยข!
