A thought here. Maddie should have bought American. She's driving a German car, so the emergency brake is, uh, where it is, which gets her into trouble. They used to make some U.S. cars with the emergency brake as a foot pedal in the corner of the well floor not too far from the regular brake and pedal. In other words, with one of those she could have just kicked the brake in the final scene, the car would have stayed where it was and that poor guy at the bottom of the hill would not have almost gotten killed. To say nothing of her and David, uh, ;D. I'm just saying. Is all.

I knew that pact wouldn't never work. When they are looking at each other in the car and start to make out again I was like "Screw the pact!" Very good episode, especially all the David/Maddie scenes.

"PACT-SMACT " "We did it - it`s done, -well done! i might add ,over and over again" Gotta love that line! But i always did wonder have far into their love-making would they have got before they realised that it was the car moving and not just the earth moving! ;D

I have been thinking again about the 2 steamy car scenes as they relate to David's decision to agree to Maddie's pact even though he's not happy about it. I wonder if David was using some sort of reverse psychology with Maddie. He proabably knew that there was no point in disagreeing with her about the pact. He could never win that argument. Instead, he appears to agree, but finds ways to get to her at every opportunity. Since he knows now that she loves him and has discovered how passionate she can be, I am wondering if he knowingly decided to forego the intellectual argument and go directly for the heart/body. Were his words in the car a conscious ploy to prove her wrong?

Yes I agree Lin! I do think his words in the car are a conscious ploy to break down her defences.... He has obviously discovered 'stuff' the night before that he knows or hopes will get her 'back in his arms' again... He knows exactly what influence he's having on her!!

Thanks, Mul. I guess it just goes to show how well David knows her, or should I say, knows how to play her. It's a lot of fun watching David reel her in!

Watching this episode now 10 years after the first time (rerun on cable) I enjoyed it so much. I didn't remember how sexy, and clever their after sex discussions were. Not to mention that last scene in the car. Hillarious! They weren't so 'safe' after all. Though I have to watch it again 'cuz I missed David nibbling

I can understand both points of view in regards to this episode. Maddie's tenderness (or lack thereof) was a little jarring and disappointing after how she (dare I say it? Lovingly?) acted towards David in 'Maddie's Turn to Cry.' BUT...also considering the show's format, the tension that came from D&M sleeping together did lead to some great comedic conflict for the episode. Like most times when David & Maddie disagree, it came down to the thrust and parry of an argument--I love the scene after they break the pact, because as soon as David starts to 'agree' with Maddie about how them sleeping together doesn't mean anything, she completely changes her opinion. I also really liked the mystery and how it paralleled their 'issues'...and it was a good return to screwball that the show needed after the soapy drama of the Sam arc. Overall good way to end the season!

Funny to see how many different points of view there are, and I'd like to add mine about this ep. It has great and funny moments, clearly. Of course I enjoyed the first pact-smash-scene, to see how she fell again and couldn't resist him there - which red blooded woman would have been able to resist? Me not, for sure... ;D But for me the main feeling I have watching it is sadness and anger, of course what mainly annoys me is Maddies reaction! I mean - why all those doubts?? She loves him, he loves her ( and she knows it and he said it!); she knows that when it comes to serious things he is reliable and always there for her (as she is for him), she's already admitted that he'd be the first person she'd turn to "before push comes to shove"; she knows he is willing to take a responsibility, that when he's in love he's capable of a serious relationship and to dedicate himself to it (remember what he said about his marriage - his wife wanted to be an actress, and therefor they moved to N. Y.!); she knows he is ready to put her happiness above his own (or has she forgotten about how he acted in "Atlas..."?) he followed her to Buenos Aires, and she followed him to N.Y. - how could she forget about that?? Yes, I can see all the points why she feels insecure etc., but for me those would have been justified had the Big Bang happened early in season 2 or so. Then she hadn't learned all those things about him and would have had a somewhat right to doubt - but at this point? Come on, this is self-destructive! Worse still, after her making him confess and express in words his love for her, her remark about just having an affair, and later (in ATTTM) her statement "we're a bad habit". Don't take me wrong, I'm no Maddie-basher, but I don't, can't and never ever won't fully understand her. It's really that Maddie's problem is Maddie. She really won't allow herself to be happy, and that just makes me sooo sad about this ep (because now we know how the story went on). The last scene was funny, yes, and I liked too the fact that it was Maddie who leaned in for the kiss (again, deliberate and slow), but I felt that it was too light an end to this ep and the whole season; I would have preferred to see something more serious, a close-up of a kiss, a smile, an embrace whatsoever. Would have given me more hope - I remember from the first airing back in 1990 that I was left with a funny, anxious feeling - I kept thinking "Ok, relax, that's it, it's a happy ending, now they're together, aren't they? They'll give it a try and work it out, won't they? WON'T THEY??" Well, as we all know...
