Marvin Gaye's "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" sounds to me like a David tune:
Marvin Gaye - Stubborn Kind of Fellow
I try to put my arms around you
All because I wanna hold you tight
(To hold you tight)
But every time I reach for you, baby
And try to kiss you, you're just jumping out of sight
(Out of sight)
Oh, I've got news for you
Baby, that I've made plans for two
I guess I'm just a stubborn kind of fellow
Got my mind made up to love you
Ah say yeah yeah yeah, say yeah yeah yeah
I'm gonna love you
(Gonna love you in every way)
In every way
(Gonna love you in every way)
I'm gonna love you
(Gonna love you in every way)
In every way
(Gonna love you in every way)
With other girls I've wanted
I've made it just a moment
With you I'll share each day
(I'll stay by your side)
Now I know you've heard about me
Bad things about me, baby, please let me explain
(Don't you listen to that jive)
Oh, I have kissed a few
I tell you, a few have kissed me too
I guess I'm just a stubborn kind of fellow
Got my mind made up to love you
Ah say yeah yeah yeah, say yeah yeah yeah
Also, it's probably one of my favourite Motown songs. Which reminds me of the "Murphy Brown" re-watch I did this spring. I've always both liked and disliked the fact that there's a Motown song in every episode of "Murphy Brown." It is believable that Murphy is a huge Motown fan because Candice Bergen really sells it: Murphy always lectures other people about "brush[ing] up on [their] Motown!" I dislike it because "Moonlighting" already did the Motown thing with David, except David is into rock and Motown, and Murphy is strictly into Motown.
Another song from David's POV:
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - More LoveLet it be soon, don't hesitate
Make it now, don't wait
Open your heart and let my love come in
I want the moment to start
When I can fill your heart with
[Chorus]
More love, more joy
Than age or time could ever destroy
My love will be so sound
It would take about 100 lifetimes
To live it down, wear it down, tear it down
This is no fiction, this is no act
This is real, it's a fact
I'll always belong only to you
Each day I'll be living to
Make sure I'm giving you
[Chorus]
More love, more joy
Than age or time could ever destroy
Oh honey, now my love will be so sound
It would take about 100 lifetimes
To live it down, wear it down, tear it down
As we grow older, no need to fear
When you need me I'll be here
I'll be beside you every step of the way
A heart that's truthful
And keeping you youthful with
More love, more joy...
