A few weeks ago I started listening to Frank Sinatra and, as Diane poitned out to me, there are a lot of songs sung by him that seem to fit perfectly for ML. My favorite is this one:
I've got you under my skin I've got you deep in the heart of me So deep in my heart that you're really a part of me I've got you under my skin
I'd tried so not to give in I said to myself, "This affair never will go so well" But why should I try to resist when, baby, I know so well I've got you under my skin
I'd sacrifice anything come what might For the sake of havin' you near In spite of a warning voice that comes in the night And repeats, repeats in my ear
"Don't you know, little fool, you never can win? Use your mentality, wake up to reality" But each time that I do just the thought of you makes me stop Before I begin 'cause I've got you under my skin
I would sacrifice anything come what might For the sake of havin' you near In spite of the warning voice that comes in the night And repeats, how it yells in my ear
"Don't you know, little fool, you never can win? Why not use your mentality, step up, wake up to reality" But each time I do just the thought of you makes me stop Just before I begin 'cause I've got you under my skin Yes, I've got you under my skin
It fits for both of them; well, the "I've tried so not to give in" and the "mentality/reality" part are more Maddie...

Everyday I'm stumbling over amazing pieces of music, seems to me I hear "ML-music" everywhere! Here's Dusty Springfield: I don't know what it is that makes me love you so I only know I never wanna let you go 'cos you started something, can't you see Ever since we met you've had a hold on me I happens to be true I only want to be with you
It doesn't matter where you go or what you do I wanna spend each moment of the day with you Look what has happened with just one kiss I never knew that I could be in love like this It's crazy but it's true I only want to be with you
You stopped and smiled at me Asked me if I'd care to dance I fell into your open arms I didn't stand a chance
Now, listen, honey, I just wanna be beside you everywhere As long as we're together, honey, I don't care 'cos you started something, can't you see Ever since we met you've had a hold on me No matter what you do I only want to be with youI love the part about the dancing and the open arms...

Ever since my two daughters were born I've always loved this song. And being the 100% certifiably "essed" person that I am, this came on my iPod today and guess what it reminded me of?!? Think Maddie and her father, Alex...between "A Trip..." and "Father Knows Last". And then think Maddie and David...and then think alternate universe.... And THEN....oh good grief, go listen!! "Lullaby" by Billy Joel Good night my angel time to close you eyes And save these questions for another day I think I know what you've been asking me I think you know what I've been trying to say I promised I would never leave you And you should always know Where ever you may go No matter where you are I never will be far away Good night my angel now it's time to sleep And still so many things I want to say Remember all the songs you sang for me When we went sailing on an emerald bay And like a boat out on the ocean I'm rocking you to sleep The water's dark and deep Inside this ancient heart You'll always be a part of me Goodnight my angel now it's time to dream And dream how wondeful your life will be Someday your child will cry and if you sing this lullaby Then in your heart there will always be a part of me Someday we'll all be gone But lullabies go on and on They never die that's how you and I will be

Very beautiful, bees! I didn't know that, but it' really great!
And I think that if you got ML always in your noggin like we here all do, probably 90 % of all the songs you hear remind you of it, because nearly all songs are about love, hate, pain, loss, passion, romance, grief, joy... life itself. Just like ML is.

Love that one, Bees. Guess that's why I used it in one of the virtual episodes. In fact, I think I did a whole virtual episode with nothing but Billy Joel episodes. And although this one is a Maddie/Daddy song, I really think that there are so many "David " songs in the Billy Joel songbook.

Ha! It's from one of my absolute favorites..."Cold Feet, Warm Heart"! Not sure if this was a subconscious thing going on, as I've only read this a million times. I can't believe I didn't connect the song today...well I can believe it....but I can't!! Not sure why this has made me all giddy...could be that extra kick of Starbucks I had earlier...but I love it when this kind of stuff happens to me!! Btw... I still tear up when David shows up in Chicago.....

Lullaby is so great. That was the song my father and I danced to at my wedding. The lyrics are very Maddie & Alex. The main Billy Joel song that reminds me of David amd Maddie is 'Temptation'. Some of you may have heard this as it is off the same album as 'Big Man in Mulberry St', The Bridge. If you have not listened, please do. It's one of my all time favorites of Billy's.

I mean, it's easy (for me, that is) to cry in front of the tv, but to cry "just" because you're reading something that touches you... means the writer must be damn good to provoke that feeling only with his/her words!

This came up on my iPod yesterday: "Shiver" by one of my favorite bands, Coldplay. They write such passionate lyrics. I think the song fits David's POV fairly well, esp. during the Sham arc.
So, I look in your direction But you pay me no attention, do you? I know you don't listen to me 'Cos you say you see straight through me, don't you?
And on and on From the moment I wake, to the moment I sleep I'll be there by your side, just you try and stop me I'll be waiting in line, just to see if you care
Oh! Did you want me to change? Well I changed for good I want you to know that you'll always get your way I wanted to say
Don't you shiver, shiver Sing it loud and clear I'll always be waiting for you
So you know how much I need you But you never even see me, do you? And is this my final chance of getting you
Sing it on and on From the moment I wake, to the moment I sleep I'll be there by your side, just you try and stop me I'll be waiting in line, just to see if you care, if you care
Oh! Did you want me to change? Well I changed for good And I want you to know that you'll always get your way I wanted to say, to say, to say
Don't you shiver, shiver Sing it loud and clear I'll always be waiting for you
So, I'll always be waiting for you Yeah, I'll always be waiting for you Yeah I'll always be waiting
And it's you I see but you don't see me And it's you I hear so loud and so clear Sing it loud and clear I'll always be waiting for you
So I look in your direction But you pay me no attention And you know how much I need you But you never even see me

I am curious...to get everyone's thoughts on this song: 'We'll Be Together Again' - the Ray Charles song that closed out the series. Someone on Twitter asked my opinion and I thought it would be interesting to pose it to you. In reading the lyrics do think this song was supposed to be a goodbye from Maddie and David (and the Moonlighting production team) to US, the viewers and fans? Or do you think it was their goodbye to each other?
"Goodbye/We'll Be Together Again"
No tears, no fears, Remember there's always tomorrow So what if we have to part, We'll be together again Your kiss, your smile, Are memories I'll treasure forever So try thinking with your heart, We'll be together again Times when I know you'll be lonesome, Times when I know you'll be sad
Don't let temptation surround you, Don't let the blues make you bad Someday, someway, We both have a lifetime before us For parting is not good-bye, We'll be together again

In reading the lyrics do think this song was supposed to be a goodbye from Maddie and David (and the Moonlighting production team) to US, the viewers and fans? Or do you think it was their goodbye to each other? I'm always willing to give my 2 cents... This is the first time I read those lyrics, and I gotta say, for me they sound like a goodbye to the fans maybe, but not in the least as a goodbye for Maddie and David. This says clearly: we'll be separated for some time maybe, but someday we'll be together - no matter where, no matter when. These are the only lines that could make you think IMO that it's a goodbye forever, that there'll be only the (dear) memories left; but as these lines do not stand alone but are surrounded by clearly positive and optimistic lines, I don't see them as a goodbye either. Call me the queen of wishful thinking, but to me, they mean that the treasured memories of their happy moments will carry them along maybe sad times of separation until the happy reunion. Well, the last three lines say everything, don't they? No doubt about it. Just my 2 cents, of course.
