I'm wondering if my 8 yo niece will remember/love "California Gurls" by Katy Perry in 20-30 years. Doubtful . The classics from the 80's and even earlier are classics because they are still remembered today, played on iPods and radios, used in movies, tv shows, etc......quoted on this thread! I agree, witness. Don't think anyone will be quoting lyrics from Katy Perry or Lady Gaga in 20 years. ...though I do like me some Gaga in the gym....sometimes!

Heard this one today. (ok, his name isn't Ray and they aren't old friends, but....I'm 'essed right now, 'kay? . ) Jim Croce's "Operator"Operator Oh, could you help me place this call? You see the number on the matchbook Is old and faded She's livin' in L.A. With my best old ex-friend Ray A guy she said she knew well And sometimes hated Isn't that the way they say it goes? But let's forget all that And give me the number if you can find it So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show I've overcome the blow I've learned to take it well I only wish my words could just convince myself That it just wasn't real But that's not the way it feels Operator Oh. could you help me place this call? 'Cause I can't read the number That you just gave me There's something in my eyes You know it happens every time I think about the love That I thought would save me Isn't that the way they say it goes? But let's forget all that And give me the number if you can find it So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show I've overcome the blow I've learned to take it well I only wish my words could just convince myself That it just wasn't real But that's not the way it feels No, no, no, no That's not the way it feels Operator Oh, let's forget about this call There's no one there I really wanted to talk to Thank you for your time Oh, you've been so much more than kind You can keep the dime Isn't that the way they say it goes? But let's forget all that And give me the number if you can find it So I can call just to tell 'em I'm fine and to show I've overcome the blow I've learned to take it well I only wish my words could just convince myself That it just wasn't real But that's not the way it feels

This is one steamy song that came up on my commute home tonight, by Chris Isaak--that sexy crooner. It's from '89, but I think it belongs in the '60s. Passionate and swoon-worthy . . .
"Wicked Game"
The world was on fire and no one could save me but you. It's strange what desire will make foolish people do. I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you. And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you.
No, I don't want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart) No, I don't want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart) With you (This world is only gonna break your heart)
What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way. What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you. What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way. What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you and,
I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart) No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart) With you.
The world was on fire and no one could save me but you. It's strange what desire will make foolish people do. I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you. And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you,
No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart) No, I want to fall in love (This world is only gonna break your heart) With you (This world is only gonna break your heart) No, I... (This world is only gonna break your heart) (This world is only gonna break your heart)
Nobody loves no one.

Oh.....I almost lost my breath......this song just came on the radio and reminded me of how perfect I think it is for our dynamic duo.
It's Eternal Flame by the Bangles
Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling. Do you feel my heart beating? Do you understand? Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming? Is this burning an eternal flame?
I believe it's meant to be, darling. I watch you when you are sleeping You belong with me. Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming Or is this burning an eternal flame?
Say my name, sun shines through the rain A whole life so lonely And then you come and ease the pain I don't want to lose this feeling
Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling. Do you feel my heart beating? Do you understand? Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming? Is this burning an eternal flame?

I LOVE "Be My Baby." I used to associate the song ONLY with the movie Dirty Dancing - however, now every time I hear that song I think of David and Maddie, just ripping each others' clothes off and rolling around on the floor, kissing SO passionately. le-sigh. I love this couple! Here are some songs I think fit David and Maddie: "You Can't Hurry Love" - Phil Collins "Never Say Never" - The Fray "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" - Rod Stewart ;D "You're the Inspiration" - Chicago "If You Leave" - OMD "Eyes of Grace" - Enation ~ le-sigh

OMG, I'm just listening to my new Jace Everett CD - toe-curling voice btw - and that song just breaks my heart and seems like made for our couple:
The greatest story never told
I guess I never told you At least you never heard Or maybe my heart just got lost And never found the words
It seems like time's a bandit That's stolen my last chance Cause we both heard the music But didn't dare to dance
And now I see what was meant to be Has slipped right through our hands And all you'll be is a memory A ghost locked in the past And I'm haunted by the feeling As your love for me grows cold You and I will surely be The greatest story never told
Was it in an instant Or once upon a time How could something so priceless Just turn on a dime
I've tried so hard to hate you I've tried to let you go And I've tried to find the reason But there isn't one I know
And I'm haunted by the feeling As your love for me grows cold You and I will surely be The greatest story never told

Heard this on Sirius the other night. Bob Dylan wrote it, but it's been covered by many artists young and old, including Billy Joel. However, recently it's been recorded by Adele and Neil Diamond. All are really nice recordings. I think this fits David pretty well. "Make You Feel My Love" This is the exact song I was thinking of! LOVE this song!

I was searching for some lyrics, and I came across these to "For All We Know". I know it was sung by both Dinah Washington, and Nat King Cole.
Wonder if this was one of the selections floated around before they chose "We'll Be Together Again" for Lunar.
FOR ALL WE KNOW
For all we know we may never meet again Before you go make this moment sweet again We won't say "Good night" until the last minute I'll hold out my hand and my heart will be in it
For all we know this may only be a dream We come and go like a ripple on a stream So love me tonight; tomorrow was made for some Tomorrow may never come for all we know
So love me tonight; tomorrow was made for some Tomorrow may never come for all we know
mmmmmmmmmmm

As soon as I saw that name, I quickly grabbed my 3 disc set and . . . doggone it! Not there. But iTunes is being much more cooperative. Also found his rendition of "Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words)" which is my favorite classic love ballad.

How about "I want you/she's so heavy" by the Beatles? I could so see David singing that one. Whenever I hear it, I see them looking at each other in so many of those scenes in the first couple of seasons. It does kind of capture David's Chicago angst in season 4, too, but it's more a raw unrequited attraction kind of a song. It would make a good video too...anyone?

darkbeer, I have one thing to say: "This is ridiculous! I'm miserable!" Seems obvious what scene is at or near the top of YOUR list. Welcome, new newbie!
