My favourite 4th season ep. Here are some of the reasons: Maddie comes back to work, she seems happy, but anxious that David might leave. As usual he surprises everone and comes in "singing", a LOT happier than the previous episodes when Maddie was away. The stories earlier's been kind of depressing, just something to watch while waiting for her to come home. "What do you think, Mrs Bishop?" LMAO every time. And then they're right back where it's supposed to be: arguing. Delighted to take the case they go for a ride in the car. Maddie wants David to be upset, and he just keeps on pushing all her buttons (maybe not all, she IS married, you know;) ). He's happy, she's unhappy, then they're even. Makes sense, IMO! And the conversation between Agnes and Maddie. Agnes really acts the way the viewers would have if we'd been there. Maddies reply doesn't really give me an answer, she should be a politician... She still loves real milk, why marry the white stuff to put in the coffee?? Bert is turning into a real detective and solves the case. But since Maddie is back in town, he doesn't get to go on the chase... Maddie gives up trying to get David upset about her "marriage", after realizing that "what we have goes beyond licenses and vows". And I love knowing that it can't possibly be the end of the D&M love story. I'm reffering to David's reply: "As long as it doesn't mean I gotta quit trying." David is really concerned about Sam jr, and drives in 20 miles/hour. Even the chase music is slow. After chasing the criminals by foot into some kind of furniture store, there's a hilarious matress jumping scene! I usually don't like that kind of easy, or cheap, humor, but this is just soooooo funny! The last scene, when David puts the ring on Maddies finger... ah.. Seems like old times...

Not sure that this is one of my favourite episodes from Season 4 but have to agree that when David calls Maddie 'Mrs Bishop' in front of the client it is a laugh out loud moment. Her reaction is priceless!!

OMG, the Mrs. Bishop line is great. This is my favorite season 4 episode too...for all the same reasons Jkalen mentioned. I also like the opening w/ Robert Palmer's "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On." I think I'll give it an 8.

I watched this one again but by dvd this time. I really like this episode too. I will give it an 8 . I love the fighting between them. yes the chemistry is still there! But I do hate that Maddie is trying to make David upset it seems and is getting allittle enjoyment out of it. Loved how David wouldn't give iin to her either. It is kinda cruel of Maddie. Probably why i only gave it an 8. I love Bert's talk with David in the car, His whole speech is so great and so darn funny. I really love Bert more watching the show all these years later. Not crazy about the Agnes/Maddie talk scene though. I like Agnes's speech but don't care for Maddie's about walter and milk LOL Guess i'm still mad at her for leaving and doing what she did to David.

I watched the show last night again after 20 years and was just about to type in my feelings when I see that Johanna already did them! I agree 100% about Agnes' talk with Maddie being the viewers ire and anger being brought out. I wish the DVD would have had a commentary track on this episode to see if that was indeed true. I'd have to go back and see the production schedule vs the air dates to see if that could even have been possible.
I did like a lot of this episode, especially the fact that there was a case to solve.
Plus, this was the first time you got to see the exterior shots of the "new" BMW after the overhaul. If you remember, David demolished the earlier car and had Bert take it to the shop for repair. The replacement car, however, is a completely different year vehicle. Skeptical? Take a quick look at the bumpers. The earlier car had the US only large bumpers and the replacement had the later 635CSi "world" bumpers. Ahhh, trivia.

I liked this episode! it felt like Moonlighting again just with a crazier more cruel Maddie .. I loved the Agnes speech, the little banter all though I wish they did more of that, they could of ! & Burt is still so annoying god why do they have to include him in every episode !!! Gave it a 9 cause of burt & Maddie's little bitchiness

I don't remember what rating I gave this one, now maybe 6?? These are hard to rate. It is great to have these two back on screen together. I have to say I was surprised that this one didn't bother me like it used to or at least not as much. What Maddie did was so ridiculous and she is so delusional it's hard to take it serious. "A great and extraordinary love" oh please. The only way that could make sense is if she meant her great and extraordinary love for David caused her to do something to save him from becoming Pat Boone! And her constant nagging to get him to admit to being hurt is like she is just trying to hurt him. Or just needing reassurance that he still cares. What does she really expect him to say? Maddie has been replaced by an alien or something. Is this the one where she's talking to the pawn on the phone and tells him she loves him? Really bugged me. I don't really get her later comments about what they(she and David) have between them, in a way it's sweet but I don't understand it. We do get some hope with David saying he's not going to quit trying. I do like the opening song of this episode and it's nice to have a case though as Agnes says that's not really what we care about. Agnes is great in her speech. Though Maddies response back doesn't really move me in the same way. I'm not sure how I feel about David putting the ring on her finger. In a way it felt like he was accepting she's married and giving up, but also felt like a different gesture with him being the one to put it on her. What an odd season this is. I know when I finish the series this time I'm gonna have to go back to the beginning to cheer myself up )This all sounds so negative so let me say I think Cybill/Maddie looks really beautiful in these episodes.

I like this episode! It seemed so much more hopeful than the others so far in Season 4. I liked Agnes's speech to Maddie. I think it was what most fans were thinking at the time. I liked how they gave Maddie a chance to defend herself, even though I think her marrying Walter was crazy, it made it seem like she did it so David wouldn't have to feel like he needed to change for her. I also liked how they actually had a case to work on. And it was so funny when David was driving slow so Maddie wouldn't get hurt. I also liked the end when he put the ring on her finger. Obviously it wasn't his ring but it almost felt like they were getting married. I don't remember how Season 5 ends (I haven't watched it in 35 years) but I don't think they do get married, so this is the closest we will get. Also, after he did that they held hands. It was sweet. And when he says he won't give up on her yet. It just gave me hope that things might get better.
