I love this episode! The case is reflecting on Maddie and David in a very clever way, in my opinion.
When Mrs Baxter walks in and starts to talk about her case she describes the other woman as "cool, detatched, quite the opposite of me" and the irony is so obvious I can almost touch it. Mrs B does not this far seem to be a very warm and loving person. Also get the feeling that that's something David could have said about Maddie in the Pilot.
Then we meet Ms Graves, "the other woman" and she explains how her relationship with Mr Baxter is. How "Every conversation doesn't have to turn into an argument" and "every moment between us doesn't have to be hot or cold". I always get chills when I watch that, because it feels so similar to the kind of relationship Maddie said that she wanted in a Trip To the Moon. Now David and Maddie look very comfortable sitting together on the couch, she glances over to him once in a while as to see if what Bridget Graves is saying causes any reaction on him. I'm thinking it does, even though he looks indifferent. "It's just comfortable, how many people can say they have that." D&M have never had a comfortable relationship in other ways than that they know they always stick up for each other without them having to ask for it. (Like Money Talks and Big Man) But since Maddie's return she seems to have soften up a bit and David doesn't seem to be bothered much with the fact that she came back married (or he doesn't believe she is married). There are some very comfortable and comforting moments in this episode.
