Can't blame you if you haven't got to watching Lunar Eclipse yet, but I did that today, and listened to the commentaries and I have some things I'd like to address here.. Dennis Dugan says he's sitting in the most uncomfortable chair and that his headphones aren't working as he'd like to, that's probably what I find most pleasant about this commentary. No, I'm kidding a little bit. He lets us know that he has this paper full with questions he's supposed to answer, but none of them seem to be "Why did you end the show this way?". And he's also, like many other people who have done commentaries, confusing the characters with the actors and he doesn't remember all of the story either. He says, for instance, that Cybill got pregnant with Mark Harmon. Okay, that was funny to me.
There are some things he talks about in the commentaries that actually are interesting, to me it's obvious he has watched the show and this episode more than once since it aired, and I appreciate that, especially since he's the only one talking here. But then he goes on and talks about which shows he's worked with before, and OMG when he starts promoting his new movie! It's not like he just mentions his new movie and when it premiers, NO! He has to mention the title, the actors and the date it's in theatre like three-four times. And then remind us which scene is playing in LE when he says these things, so we can all remember to go back to that scene and listen again in case we didn't catch it. Okay, maybe I'm being sensitive here, but I didn't like him more for doing promotion in this commentary.
Dennis said that all the people working on the show out all differences aside to have as much fun as possible when shooting the last episode. I so hope that's true. I still don't think he knows how most fans feel about how ML ended, it wasn't something I heard him talk about anyway.

Hey Jo! Thanks for the info on the commentary. Hmm makes me think it would be a waste of my time to listen to it then. But maybe i would like the last episode better if i didn't have to listen fully to it LOL It could have been a better episode if it ended better because i like the fact that A/B were getting married. They deserved to get married , That part was done good but the end will always be depressing, sad, upsetting, infuriating, etc, etc, etc. One little scene could have been added to the end to make things better. Oh well guess it will never happen. I'm sorry Denis didn't address this.

I agree, Jo. Dennis Dugan spent the entire commentary promoting himself instead of providing insight into this episode. Maybe he was trying to get back at the fans for booing him off the show. Anyway, the best part of his commentary was at the end when he said that everyone gathered back at Fox on the last day of shooting (crews had been scattered around the city) and drank massive amounts of champagne until dawn.

Thank you for the pre-warning. I haven't watched it yet...I need to brace myself first, maybe a glass of wine will help. I don't why I torture myself by watching the most depressing show ever.

You know what would have been great and what i would have really wanted. It would have been great if it they could have got everyone back together to do this one - Glenn, Jay, Bruce and Cybill , Allyce and Curtis , because i really wanted to know what it was like shooting the last ever episode . I`m sure even though Bruce had wanted out by then and Cybill had the twins to think about ,that emotions must have been running very high , it would have been nice to hear how Bruce and Cybill coped filming those last few scenes together and did they cry at all . I`m sure everyone shed a few tears. And i really would have liked to have found out more about this after party .that they had for the cast and crew. But alas we`ll never know

Laura: I will have to watch it again but i have on VHS tape a behind the scenes ML 1 hour show that Entertainment Tonight did about 6 years ago. They did show home movies someone in the crew took of the last days of filming the last episode and i do remember one scene specificly . They asked Cybill if she would/ thought she would ever work with Bruce again and she said no i don't think so. Well years have passed and so have bad feelings and we know they were together for the reunion on Season 3 dvds and Cybill so wants to do a movie with Bruce. Ah to dream. I'll watch this one night to see what else was said about the last days of filming.

I totally agree w/ everyone's sentiments. I might be playing the fool, but I still like to think they will appear together again doing something....anything....Moonlighting related or not. BTW, I still haven't watched this episode on DVD. I'm waiting for the day I have enough free hours to watch the pilot immediately afterwords. That Ray Charles song "We'll Be Together Again" gets me every time!

Oh wow you are soooo lucky to have that rose35. From what i can remember there wasn`t very much Moonlighting stuff on tv after the show ended in the UK, and satelite/cable tv was pretty much in it`s infancy over here so we didn`t get to see many of the US channels. I suppose there`s no way of getting a copy of that special on here by any chance , maybe YouTube? I would really! love to see it.

i watched w/ the commentary the other night and i thought he spent too much time talking about his resume than ML. It was nice though, like johanna said that dennis seemed to actually watch the show and enjoyed it. i also like how he's a fan of cybill's and said she would do anything for a scene. he even promoted "Cybill." i too wondered why out of all his questions that the big one never came up---why did the show end this way? i wonder what LE would have been like if it had been directed by Jay Daniel? he loves the two of them together. he still talks about them now. and it's evident in Eine Kleine Nacht Murder. Argh, this episode (LE) gets me so annoyed. i think i need to watch the earlier episodes again.

I finally watched Lunar Eclipse with the commentary on, which I was pretty hesitant to do after reading this thread. *G* But, I did, and after a bit, found it to be pretty funny.
I get the impression that Dennis Dugan wasn't prepared to do this thing alone, and that he just found himself in that situation at the last minute, with nothing but a list of questions handed to him as a guideline for what to talk about. (If you think about the other commentaries, only Mulberry Street has a solo commentary and from what I've read, that's only because Glenn was scheduled to record it with Jay, but had to cancel.) So, I think the guy was just doing his best not to leave a lot of dead air in the commentary.
If you really listen, there are actually a lot of jokes in Dugan's commentary, including the whole promoting of his latest film. To me, he's trying very hard to be funny and entertaining, which I finally got during the under the chair shot, where Bert's head is hanging down and Dennis comments that they usually only get that perspective in Australia. I thought it was funny. *G* His humor is very dry and he has a tendency to be facetious, which I actually found to be a good balance for this unsatisfying series finale.

I have not yet watched it w/ the commentary. Not b/c I don't want to hear Dennis Dugan....I just don't like to watch it more than once or so a year.

I got my ML DVD's yesterday and thought of taking care the 'bad' stuff first, before delving into the good ones I honestly believe that Dennis Dugan tried his best to comment on the Lunar Eclipse episode; however, the commentary leaves you a bad taste in the mouth, regarding the possibilities that were never fulfilled by either the director or the writers. It was evident that Cybill and Bruce were trying anything to get ML back (and the viewers), but the sparkle was gone together with a whole bunch of people that made ML tick (Glenn, the writers, Jay Daniel et'all). Although Dennis Dugan tried to joke this last episode, my feeling was that the guy had a lot of anger underneath his skin about how he was routed out of the show; he kept saying that it was the best thing ever happened to him, how he loved and admired Cybill (but not Bruce - notice that he even mentions Virginia M. first in his commentary and mention Bruce only when he was ready to talk about a canceled job he had with him - kinda of bad publicity here) e.tc, e.tc. It was clear to me that the guy had a lot of anger inside him and the directing opportunity he had at the final season - I know that I might be a little nasty here, but that's how I feel - was a means to him to get even with the show/viewers for "dumping" him. Kinda gives you the feeling of a jealous "Walter" getting even with "David" over "Maddie" The rest of the commentary was pretty boring, especially the parts where he promoted his own work. Overall this 5th season DVD - compared with the previous 4 - shows that it was kinda rushed out by LionsGate, without paying so much attention to it (even the packaging is lame for ML standards), not to mention the quality of the commentary (I have not seen yet the "A Womb with a View"). I agree with the opinion that it would be a lot better - and less painful - if we had Cybill, Bruce, Glenn (although I kinda understand that he might not be willing to comment on the death of his creation) and Allyce on the LE commentary, because we could gain much more inside info regarding the feelings these people had during the shooting of the final episode. Just my thoughts folks.
