Something recently (finally) occurred to me. In the commentaries and in previous interviews and articles, producers and cast have always talked about how much more money and time it took to produce Moonlighting and that (while the show was popular) the Network would make a fuss, but go along with the cost overruns and schedule delays.
Well, the dramatic slip in ratings starting in Season 4 and continuing in Season 5 probably caused the show's budget to be drastically cut that last season. They were probably put on a tighter production schedule. We know they were moved to a less high-profile time slot.
Perhaps the fall from grace just sucked the remaining life and energy out of those final episodes...

Dennis Dugan. I am telling you folks, he is the reason that the show jumped the shark. He is the reason everything went wrong.
Not Annie, not the be-my-baby aftermath, not the Maddie-in-Chicago, no nothing. Only one thing Dennis Dugan

Then, you probably won't be going to see his new film - the one he hyped during the LE commentary - I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, eh? *L*
Have been seeing lots of promos for it this week.

Have to go with the majority here about the commentary. It didn't add much, unfortunately.
I also have to agree that there was probably an additional person set up to do the commentary but bailed at the last minute. It is tough to do by yourself. I personally think Lions Gate made a huge mistake by not adding commentary to EVERY episode. I bet a dollar to a donut that the ladies who did the commentary on The Straight Poop (who are VERY involved in this forum) would have graciously added their voices to other shows. Heck, I bet a few of us guy fans would have loved to do our own version of commentary independently just to see what the gender differences would be.
I suppose now we can only look forward to the remastered, uncut versions with maybe some more extras.

We need the extras, I agree with you, we need all the extras preceding the episodes. I thought that only some episodes had those extras but it appears that pretty much every episode had a preview extra (thank heaven for youtube)

I tried to watch the commentary with an open mind, regardless of the "funk" I get in when watching the last few episodes of the show! Yes, Dugan does go on about his movie a little too much, but all in all I really think, IMO, that he was just trying to be light-hearted and funny. He kind of seems like he has a very dry sense of humor. No, I did not feel like he answered the real questions most fans wanted know about how and why they shot the last episode the way they did. Would have loved to have heard the ladies again or even some insight as to what emotions were like on the set those last few days. I guess we are fortunate to have the DVD's however we can get them!!

Man! this is all so depressing! I wish I never watched season 4 & 5 .. On the TV channel I discovered Moonlighting on, they only aired the first 3 seasons, smart people! & I got so angry & wrote them an email, I didn't get an answer so I downloaded the the 2 seasons online, & started watching them, & I got the reply to my email telling me they're airing those 2 seasons haha .. I wish they didn't! the 3rd season finale would of been great .. Now everytime I think of moonlighting I get depressed instead of amused & happy like I used to with the 3 first seasons

I tried watching this with the commentary, and I had to turn it off after a few minutes -- Dennis Dugan annoys the heck out of me...I've hated him in everything I've ever seen him in (MASH -- Col. Potter's slimy son-in-law, and in another ep as a slimy G.I.; the ever-annoying Ritchie (was that his name?) in The Rockford Files; and of course, Walter Bishop (ick.) I don't know, he seemed just as irritating in real-life. Of course, I'm SURE it didn't help that I tried to watch LE back-to-back, once without commentary, an then with. Torturing myself.
