Now that I've got the DVDs I'm seeing episodes that I hadn't seen for a while. I've always loved most of this episode, especially the swimming pool jump, the Papa Bear and Sweetcakes etc. But there are bits of this epi that just don't feel right for me - for example David saying 'yabbadabbadoo' with the sun setting for no real reason, and Maddie's friend waving a deadly stun gun about whilst wearing a boilersuit and having a new hairdo, not to mention Maddie chewing gum just strike me as odd... Or is it just me!?

No, it's not just you. There are some odd bits about that episode. I can't say that Maddie chewing gum ever bothered me, but the yabbadabado bit did. And I'm not entirely sure about that ending scene with Vivian either. I guess maybe she needed to wear tight protective clothing for using the gun as some sort of safety precaution (not that it did her much good in the end), but I'm not convinced that the huge hair was totally necessary.
My favourtire parts of this episode are when they're climbing on top of the house, firstly when David throws the rope and Maddie says 'you missed the house' and then when they're going to climb up the wall and she says 'why don't we just use the pipe?'. It's really funny the way that David's meant to be showing her what to do and just makes a pics ear out of it.
Sakura Star - the bit with the swimming pool is after they have climed on the house and they get caught on the roof. People are chasing them and they end up jumping off the roof and into the swimming pool.

I'm glad it's not just me. The Yabbadabbadoo bit looks as if it was added in as a last minute filler. Its completely out of character in a way. Yes Sakura, I'm loving the DVDs - it's wonderful to see everything so clearly and to hear it all properly for the first time in years! Thanks for reminding Sakura about the swimming pool scene Gem! I love that scene - especially when you get to see David's T-shirt saying "Medicate me" Mul

Nothing is more odd to me in this episode than the way they have Maddie's hair all pulled over to one side and curly. Like in this picture davidandmaddie.com/uploads/1020966019_Photo7_read7.jpgWhy did she all of a sudden curl her hair and wear it that way just to hang around the office discussing the case with David? We never see her wear it like that again!

You're right Cindy! I had forgotten about that, it is very odd. Looks like a hairdo that would have taken ages to do and they only used it for one small scene. What was the point?

I wish I have this one,I remember watching it on the TV,but I had no time for recording this episode. In the time when ML was showing on TV,the only hour the channel passed the episodes was on 23:30 PM. That was not very great! How about you? Sakura_Star1

Hi All,
Here's my 2 cents on this episode. It was what, the third episode - including the pilot. It's my opinion that they didn't get everything "right" until the next episode, "The Next Murder You Hear." Don't get me wrong I liked the ones before it just fine. But they were still trying to figure out what worked on this show. And I believe that both Jay and Glenn said that after the 3rd episode everything clicked. They knew they were onto something, and I totally agree. This episode was good, but I agree with your comments about Vivian and the laser gun at the end. It was campy. I know their show was campy sometimes, but it just didn't work. ~end of commentary by blue moon girl ;~D

I liked every scene between David and Maddie, everything that had to do with the company felt a little too science fiction for me. I loved the surveilance (I know I wrote THAT wrong) scenes, the swimmingpool thing, Papabear, Maddie in the dark haha! I started to like the episodes after this one.

Hi everybody,
I agree, the David and maddie scenes are great. The pool, the car (w/ David's for future reference comment), and in the office. I love when Maddie sits on his desk and tells david they're pretty good together. Some very good scenes in this one, but overall not a great episode. If the case scenes were better, this would have been a great ep.

I watched this one again last night and I have to say I think I enjoyed it more this time. The long scene at the beginning with the laser and Vivan with the laser pack on at the end was a bit much, but I absolutely love the David and Maddie scenes. From the beginning scene Maddie: "Easy come, easy go, ha!" "when do you get serious?" "When to you lighten up?" David: "Maddie, Maddie, guy to girl, outie to innie.." ;D Of course the papa bear, sweat cakes scene. Then the stake out, just Wonderful!! Her hair really was odd in the office scene mentioned earlier, but I remember alot of people wearing their hair that way in the 80's. Thank goodness that fad passed But they were great in that scene. David: "Thanks for beating that horse" Maddie: "Thanks for spuring me on." "Your not bad yourself fella, not bad at all."

The yabbadabbadoo comes out of that they would get their job back, doesn´t it? She was really upset that they lost it and she always blames it on him. He was relieved to be off the hook. She would get the job and her friend back. Now, that didn´t happen, but it all worked out for the best. I prefer when D&M are eachothers best and only friends. Maddie: Couldn´t we just use the pipe?

About the sunset thing--in the opening of the Flinstones, isn't that when Fred yells it? Kind of matches up, then.
