6. "if people are meant to be together, they'll find each other...no matter where, no matter how." Does this really sound like Maddie?
Yeah - course it does. Deep down and I mean deep, deep down...our girl Maddie believes this (It is also echoed in 'Lunar Eclispe' at the end...the sentiment is also in 'WWAV' when Jerome is talking about these two always finding each other across the ages...actually there are too many examples to mention in a bracket lol) and knows that David and her are together for a reason - against the odds. She knows that her and David have something special, are drawn strangely towards each other despite their differences, that although they are opposites, she feels like she's known him before- old souls!

What a lovely episode this one is- one that, again, I faithfully watch every Christmas to encourage me along the festive spirit path.
I think that the sequence position of this episode is very interesting - ('AS' aside) it follows 'BMOMS' which opened up a whole can of emotions with Maddie following David to NYC in order to support him and show him a piece of her heart. Of course, then (The Agnes and Bert episode aside and 'TSP') the next 'real' episode begins the 'Sam Arc' and our two, at last, get it together. This all explains the passion of the kiss at the end of this episode- it's what she/he should have done in 'BMOMS' - and what we were all waiting for. Considering all of this, it is a little odd that she would consider getting rid of 'Blue Moon' and all of those memories?! I know she regrets it in the scene where she's listening to David and Richie - but I wonder at the decision considering that she dropped everything and flew out to be with him in NYC only a couple of episodes before. Maybe, just maybe, she is doing a 'jumping out of the aeroplane' moment - where her feelings for him have got too big for her and she wants to just bail out/use the ejector seat lol. After all, that is what she is rather good at- there were no trains to jump on so meeting her Guardian Angel will have to do :-)
Love, love, love this episode - it's so full of emotions; moves their relationship forward and gives me a good excuse to watch Moonlighting every December.

This is a tremendous episode! Hands down, this is what good TV is supposed to be like. Cybill is just perfect here in every way, she shows herself such a versatile and powerful juggling comedy and powerful dramatic acting.
Other than the historical inaccuracy, this may be the perfect episode. I love the way Christmas music is more Phil Spector, that is always a nice touch.
My question: What if the series would have ended right then and there? It very easily could have come to a believable ending, In spite of herself Maddie has an epiphany realizes that she loves her life, her job, her employees, and especially David Addison. And so she says "And you.." then a great hug and kiss, and a particularly naughty look on girl as she says "and to all a good night." (a good bye) THE END.
It would have had a happy ending right then and there. We would have been left with the feeling that they lived happily ever after. Now would this have been better or worse?
Sometimes when i consider the really hard times that we know come down the road, maybe ending the series here would have worked completing the story arc.
I'd be interested in reading what you think about this.
One side note It took VM to figure out how all this would come to make sense as we patiently wait for season # 11 (smirks)

Gene, your query has been discussed extensively on this board. There are some (not so much here, more out there) who believe the show should have ended with "To Heiress Human" -- the Season 3 finale. I say...NO way. There was a great deal more for our beloved characters to learn from and about one another, after "It's A Wonderful Job" and after the S3 ender. Their relationship has so much depth and many dimensions to consider; this is evident in the fact that here we are, 20+ years later examining it from every angle! To me this means that Moonlighting was never meant for what we imagine as a happy ending, wrapped up in a box with a big red bow.

I can understand your point to end the show with "It's a Wonderful Job" - it does make sense. I personally wouldn't go for it though. Because honestly I did enjoy both fun of the first 3 seasons AND drama of season 4 and 5! But what I don't like is the nonsense of the last 4 episodes of season 5- that absolutely are not Moonlighting. So I'd delete these last 4 episodes. Thank you for the interesting question, Gene!

I would have ended the series with Perfetc... That what I've been thinking too, Sue. The last scene is adorable and just perfect. Seeing them smiling and knowing that they are going to Paris (the city of love) together would be enough for us, we would be happy!

I would have ended the series with "And the Flesh Was Made Word". The ending was full of hope for their future. For one brief moment, they were both on the same page.

Did anyone watch this one as well for Christmas? I remember liking it a lot when I was younger. Now, it raises some questions with me: Was that kiss between Maddie and David real, as it is never mentioned again? Did anyone else think that, in spite of Maddie's high stake request for everyone to work on Christmas, MacGillicuddy was being a jerk towards her? I mean, calling your boss "Miss Northwind" is really not okay, no matter the circumstances.
What I absolutely loved was how David, in Maddie's alternate universe, explained to his brother what he liked about Maddie and never once mentioned her looks. It already appears to be so much deeper here than a mere physical attraction. So yes, I swooned. Sue me! Hahaha!

I don't think the kiss was real, it's in the same vein as 'Twas the Episode..., but it doesn't matter that much, it's still a demonstration of Maddie's state of mind. Which is why her behaviour in Blonde on Blonde feels unnatural and, more importantly, gimmicky to me, it just doesn't follow from her trajectory in episodes 2, 4, 6, and 8 of that season.
MacGillicuddy's actions, well, that's another gimmick, I guess. He only does it because the episode needs him to so it can play out the way it needs to. It's still a great episode, but that particular rough edge could have been polished a bit more.

I suspect Maddie’s state of mind at the end of this episode is pretty fungible-and, given that this is a fantasy, it’s fine if she/we imagine a Very Merry for her and Dave. I do disagree with you about BoB, though. Is it so awful for Maddie to come to the conclusion, after months alone, that she’d like some companionship? Given how she handled the whole subsequent Sam and Dave business-essentially, rejecting them both-it doesn’t shock me that she’d seek a “meaningless” fling with someone. She had her choice of a LTR with one of two archetypes, the straight-laced astronaut and the devil may care rake, and walked away from both. I guess I’d chalk it up to what Sydney Pollack’s character said in the movie “Michael Clayton”: “people are (bleeping) incomprehensible.”
