Well, gang, it's time to head out to the symphony and the boxing ring. Don your evening wear, be it FINE or FUN. Thanks to rose and bees for contributing to tonight's fun and frolic...and we're off! Here are the Qs.
1. This episode immediately follows The Man Who Cried Wife.
a). What, if any, is the significance of this episode following TMWCW?
b). Does the first half of this episode resonate differently when viewed in this context?
c). What is a familiar theme in this episode?
2. When Maddie is telling David about her disappointing dates, he is really listening to her. Notice his expression.
a). Do you think that David's efforts to show Maddie a FINE evening are all about the dare, or is David trying to show Maddie that he can fit into her world?
b). Is this a case of ol' quick-thinking Addison using this situation as an opportunity to ask Maddie on a date without really asking?
3. As Maddie gets ready for her date with David, she is nervous, excited, almost giddy. As she answers the door, she gazes downward and then is pretty flirtatious with David. Her glances in the limo are very interesting. This may be the only time that we see her quite like this.
a). What is happening here? What do you think the writers are trying to say about Maddie?
b). Do you think Maddie thought of her FINE date as a real date? Why or why not?
4. Do you think Maddie should have gotten mad at David for what transpired during their FINE date?
5. This is one of the more comedic episodes of the series. Cybill mentions that it is one of her personal favorites. Do you think they pull it off?
6. This episode contains some memorable dialog. What are some of your favorite quotes?
7. So, what is the verdict? Who is more comfortable in whose back yard?
8. "Just for Laughs" Segment: As Witness is the episode of David's disappearing/reappearing shaving cream, this is Maddie's crazy hair episode. The part in her hair keeps flipping from left to right throughout the earlier and later office scenes. This may be one of the funniest pieces of this episode. Could it have been intentional?? LOL
So there we have it. Have fun! Fine?

So sorry, Lin and Co. -- I forgot I also had theater tickets for this evening.
I'm probably not going to get my act together to watch, read, and answer until tomorrow.
Sorry!

I must say Lin, Rose and Bees...these are really great questions! Thanks...for my part, a new fanfic has been placed in the thread. 1. This episode immediately follows The Man Who Cried Wife. a). What, if any, is the significance of this episode following TMWCW? b). Does the first half of this episode resonate differently when viewed in this context? c). What is a familiar theme in this episode? a)TMWCW's theme was spontaneity...in this one Maddie is looking for a planned evening but things spontaneously happen that go against the plans made. The significance to me is Maddie has to understand that sometimes the best laid plains require room to give. b)Yes, when you look at the preceding theme, it gave me more to think about. c)No matter how much you plan, spontaneous things may happen that will change the course of events.

Do you think Maddie thought of her FINE date as a real date? Why or why not? a) What is happening is the viewers get to see Maddie's interest in David and her willingness to give him a chance. b)Yes, she put forth a lot of effort, her dress was fabulous! The giddiness and excitement stated above is evident of her view.

Yoo hoo~~~ Where is everyone!!?? Well, here are some of my thoughts... 1. This episode immediately follows The Man Who Cried Wife.
a). What, if any, is the significance of this episode following TMWCW? b). Does the first half of this episode resonate differently when viewed in this context? c). What is a familiar theme in this episode? In "Man Who Cries..." the familiar theme or the usual issue that causes conflict between David and Maddie is the idea of not always living life by old rigid rules. Spontaneity can be good. Live life with lots of fun! In "Symphony...", Maddie is miffed because her date decided to be spontaneous and "just see what happens". Sound like something someone else would do? Not sure if we should put "Man Who..." and "Symphony..." together here to find continuity in David and Maddie's relationship up to this point. Don't get me wrong. I do think Maddie is right in thinking that a little planning from the man she was going out with was in order. But, the table has kind of been turned here. Now Maddie seems to make David really think about her side of things in this area. And the poor guy really does give it a go!! LOL! Does the first half of the episode resonate differently when viewed this way? I think it does. If someone had never seen ML before and this was the first episode they saw they would not understand the significance of why Maddie is perturbed.

5. This is one of the more comedic episodes of the series. Cybill mentions that it is one of her personal favorites. Do you think they pull it off? Oh yes, in a very big way...there are some fabulously funny stuff in here...for instance... ~At the theater when David throws the paper at Maddie to get her attention and she gives a look that makes me chuckle just thinking about it. Also, the way the audience head moves to the beat between David and Maddie...good stuff. ~The dialogue about the G-Man and G-Woman, lol Too many to name.

2. When Maddie is telling David about her disappointing dates, he is really listening to her. Notice his expression
His expression cracks me up everytime!! I think at first he is thinking---Man, she is gonna be one tough customer to please once I finally get the chance. But then you can see the wheels turning. He spurs her on and makes her tell him what kind of evening she would enjoy!
Love this conversation they have with the Freudian slip from Maddie about him dressing up in a tux! But, I do think he is listening. He wants to make her happy and one way to do that is to get her to tell him what would make her happy. He does want to show her that he can be the kind of man she would like to be with, but it is part of his quick thinking and scheming to get the date without revealing his desires out front!!

So right, the Yin and Yang of it all. It's funny you made the connection with Maddie's "date"...it seemed to describe Maddie's idea of what going out on a date with David would be like except this is a "professional" male who portrays this louse in the dating department. I tell ya... that judging a book by its cover thing gets Maddie every time.

I think it is the only time we see her excited about going out with David. What is happening here is we see a little part of how MAddie sees David. She believes David is going to come through for her. But, once David gets the tickets we know he is doomed on the date with Maddie----but he doesn’t have a clue!!
I think she did think of her date as real and not just a game of dare. And so did David. Look at what those two went through to get ready for that night. We watched David try to plan the evening and we saw the remnants of Maddie's preparation on her bed as it looked like she went through dresses like they were a dime a dozen…David’s look at the door…Maddie's look at the door...a limo!!

6. This episode contains some memorable dialog. What are some of your favorite quotes? Maddie: "Last night I went on a date" David: "Get the hell outta here" Maddie: "A payoff" David: "Just extending the metaphor" Maddie: "Extend it somewhere else" David: "Where's the Russian dressing?" Security: "In the kitchen" Maddie: "Mr. King please! Gabinov's gonna be killed!" Don King: "I admire your courage and confidence but you boy has to hit him first" Great writing man~

4. Do you think Maddie should have gotten mad at David for what transpired during their FINE date?
Yes, although I think her anger was more just dissappointment in David. I do think though that once she realized David really did try to make it a "fine" evening she was not as mad.

That's one of my favorite parts, he says "eh" so you know he catches it too, lol. Maddie looks uncomfortable, too cute.

5. This is one of the more comedic episodes of the series. Cybill mentions that it is one of her personal favorites. Do you think they pull it off?
I think it is a great episode. The boxing stuff is just goofy fun with some references to Rocky and the Three Stooges. Bruce was actually pretty funny here and Cybill looks like she can pack a punch!!
That being said, it would have been nice to actually see them go out somewhere...David still screws this up later on in "A Trip...", doesn't he? Maddie is not a Laundromat kind of girl!! ;D
