Aside: I wonder who is in the photo on Maddie’s desk? SHE obviously didn’t bring it, so Dave put it there. Looks like Ted Danson to me! gray
LOL!! I tried to figure this out too!! I thought maybe it was a relative of Cybill's? Mother or Grandmother?
Welcome back Diane!!

Another "out there" question - has anyone else noticed how Maddie appears to stare at David's mouth in the scene where David offers to wait for her during her dinner with Farley? She does it in a few other episodes - Symphony is one of them. Don't mind me... You did it again, gray! Those avatars keep getting better and better! Oh yes!! I absolutely noticed this!! ....and so did David, don't ya' think??!! Good job on that avatar gray!!! A++

I am going to jump around a bit on the order of the questions. 4. What is revealed as to Maddie’s character as she wakes up, enters Blue Moon for the first time as its CEO, works the Farley case and solves their first mystery? The first thing that comes to mind is Maddie's eagerness. She wants to learn, wants to be taken seriously and wants to make the agency viable. She is not "playing" at being a detective. As I watch her, I also see her wide-eyed innocence, naivete. At times, she seems so young, idealistic. We also see Maddie's romantic, soft side. She cannot tell Farley Wrye about his"son" because he is sick, dying. She feels bad for that poor man. Even when she learns the true nature of Farley's search, she cannot walk away and let them shoot it out. She needs to set things right and save them both. Aside: What do you think about Maddie waking up to "Tutti Frutti"? Knowing what we know about her now, do you think that is her kind of song? Doesn't seem right. As Family Feud says, "Good answer, good answer!!....clapclapclapping" Idealisitic, innocent, romantic, and I also think a very sympathetic heart. She really takes in everything Farley tells her about his family and his regrets. And David notices this! He really is good a detecting stuff when he isn't busy trying to impress her!! ;D Yeah, Tutti Frutti?? Definitely should have been some Etta James or even Sinatra!!

Added Question for Bonus Points: We know that Tate BS'd the story about looking for his kid. Do you think his tales about his past that he spun for Maddie in the restaurant were true or bogus as well?
I will withold my opinion for a few minutes.
Tick....tick....tick....

3. Why does David oppose Maddie going into the bar and what do you think the real reason is why he waits in his car while she has dinner with Farley? David feels that Maddie doesn't belong in a place where nefarious types hang out. He's worried about her safety, but also figures that she would blow his cover. I think David waits in the car because he truly believes that Maddie won't be able to tell Farley Wrye the truth and he wants off this case ("deep do-do"). Below the surface, he may also be concerned that the situation could get out of hand and he wants to make sure that she doesn't get herself into trouble. David to the rescue!!

2. Regarding David’s antics in the office and out working the case---is Maddie’s reaction to them the same or different than her reactions later on in their relationship? Why? Maddie's reactions are different than later, milder; she doesn't really know how sly he is...yet! Maddie is enchanted by David's charm, giving him a chance to deliver what he's promised. David stating they have a client coming in a 11:30 epitomizes his ability to think on his feet, then manifest the actions which match his words. Although Maddie hasn't fully gauged David's antics as characteristics she'll have to "break" him from over the next 5 years; she is a bit annoyed but willing to hear him out. In another post, I believe someone referenced Maddie's subtle eye shots to David's mouth, like "she wanted to kiss him so hard, her face hurt". (Cybill show fans will understand) Maddie exudes admiration for David...Maddie's willingness to listen and play the game accordingly to ensure success with their first case is genuine; she also desires to prove herself to David or at least match his zeal.

BOGUS - His story is too smooth. I imagine him having lived a life of crime, not playing in a piano bar in the south of France.

But Etta James and Sinatra are people I want to listen to to soothe me......for the waking up, I choose stuff that will irritate me enough to get out of the bed......so maybe Tutti Fruitti WAS a good choice for Maddie!

For fun: How are Bruce and Tim Robbins connected about 5 or 6 years later? I am thinking you are talking about "The Player" a very interesting satire about Hollywood in which Tim Robbins stars, and Bruce plays a small role. Yes!! Bruce plays a cameo part and rescues Julia Roberts from the gas chamber!! I think it is the very last scene...in case anyone wants to check it out!!

I think they were real but he changed the names, lol. The story gives a history of how such a sweet little cherub of a man got into this nefarious profession; although we don't understand the reason for his stories until after Wrye's visit to D & M.

That's what I came up with but maybe it is Howard Hawks (I think that's his name) Ok, here's a link to a clear picture with a little profile to it. What do you think, can it be? upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/24/HowardHawks.jpg

Since, I've really got to disagree.....I think that Maddie is determined to make the best of a bad situation in order to make this agency work.....but the only thing I see her exuding is disdain. There is the basic concern there that anyone would have for another human being, especially a coworker, but I don't think the spark has yet been lit......at least on Maddie's part. I do agree that she is determined to make good, and to show this guy she is up to the task, and I believe she is proving to him that she will not wither up and blow away at the first sign of adversity..

I'm confused. Maybe I should go back and watch again.... The "killer" we first meet is the little chubby guy in the hospital that dumps Tim Robbins down the bio-hazard chute and later has dinner with Maddie. His name is Farley or Tate?

Cybill constantly refers to her explaining the Hawksian style of comedy to GGC when they met to discuss her accepting the part of Maddie!
