Did everybody catch the song playing in the bar?
I am not a big country fan, but is Patsy Cline's "Leavin' on Your Mind" not perfect?
Love the ML attention to details!

6. What do you think of the “buddy” images sprinkled throughout the episode? Do you think this episode might have spurred the decision to get David a sidekick in season 3……aka Herbert? I never thought about the "buddy" images before. The concept is interesting - it is great to see these two guys commiserating about their lots in life. Who knows if the dynamics between David and Phil started the wheels turning? I believe that the driving force, in the end, was probably to lighten the load for Cybill and Bruce, but it also opened up a whole new set of story lines that would carry them through many an episode.

3. Was Maddie really under the illusion that David would accept her news well, or was her breakfast attempt designed to snow him…a flirtation? Or was she snowing herself? Maddie was just delusional period at this point; she knew David wasn't going to receive the news well because he had to draw it out of Maddie. If David hadn't pushed, she probably would have chickened out of telling him.

7. How would you describe Maddie and David’s relationship as we begin this episode (from each one’s point of view)? Is there a change by the end?I really think this is a watershed episode. At the beginning, Maddie sees David and the gang as just employees, necessities of business. By the end, she realizes that Blue Moon is not just a place she spends time…it has become part of HER. She is a Private Investigator doggone it, and, although admittedly not a very good one, that is what she is. When she asks David to hire her with Addison Investigations, she realizes that it is not the 9 to 5 that gets her motor running, it is the banter, the impossible situations, the peeking in windows, the jumping from rooftops that tunes her fork. Well said, gray. The light bulb finally goes off in that honey blonde noggin. Not only does she come to realize that Blue Moon is her life, but she experiences David's selflessness in putting her first. He gladly gives up his first class status so she can have her business back.

So true about the song, diane. There is something about Patsy Cline and bar scenes...

8. Let's just slobber over the scene on the stairs, shall we?
This is one of those scenes that you just sit back and take in. The chemistry is electrifying as they sit so close, nearly touching, admitting to their mistakes. When David says that he better get going, you can just feel that he is trying so hard to maintain his composure. And then there is Maddie - a little provocative as she says "first thing in the morning?". Hmmmm...is that an invitation? Perfection!

I havenft known how this title connects to the novel until today, and have no knowledge about the novel. But I appreciate that Diane gave the good information and opportunity to think this episode deeply. 1. How does Phil West fit into this description? How does David? Phil has been Atlas at the Welmanfs Bank for six years. He works hard every day and has been loyal to his boss. But I think he knows the rigidness of his boss and job, because he thought he would be fired for his only one night mistake despite his loyalty for years. I think Phil is sort of tired of it and ready to shrug.
On the other hand I think David is Atlas, too and keeps trying to pull it together as he always does. Despite getting out of the office furiously, I feel he is always wondering how he could manage this situation. So he works hard in the dump with shovel and elatedly goes to Maddie to report his success. Even when he leaves Blue Moon, I feel he is not done with Maddie and the agency. He never shrugs or gives up, I think. I think Maddie is also Atlas, always worried about how to run Blue Moon effectively and get money. And Ifd say she actually shruggedc she sold the Blue Moon.

One thing I note is the use of alcohol to drown out sorrows, used for great effect at several points in the series. David, of course, throughout the seasons, but here we have Phil, Sad Maddie in "Wonderful Job" etc. I recall doing that myself, more times than I care to count, about this same era. God was I stupid. How I got home sometimes driving in those cattle chutes when they were rebuilding the Schuylkill Expressway is beyond me. In a Corvette no less. So I suppose I had a bit of David Addison in me after all...plus I was addicted to chocolate milk at the time as well. Still drink it, but now its more of the WaWa 1% variety, and now only on occasion.

Chocolate milk was drunk today while I formulated the questions........purchased from the Amish market.
I remember not remembering one of those wild trips home myself......after doing a bad imitation of David singing into a pretzel stick at a sing along bar in Center City called Michael Jack's -- owned by the one, the only Michael Jack Schmidt.

I have a picture of me getting a ball signed by Schmitty, from a security camera at Strawbridge and Clothier! (The Mrs worked there.)

Hey guys, talking about chocolate milk, I just love the way David says it as he pulls it out of the fridge, sort of drawing the words out - "chocolate miiiilllllllkkkkk"...then there are those little moves as he shakes up the carton - whadda guy - so David.

Hey all! Ok i'm starting here: 8. Let’s just slobber over the scene on the stairs, shall we? Ok slobbering,..................................................................................................................................................................................................LOL Ok this scene really isnt that long but wow what happens in it just speaks volumes! I wish it was a longer scene. Yeah i'm greedy It's like the MTTC scene. They are completely open and honest with each other, no walls are up and around them. They obviously dont this this much during the series so when they do it's one of those OMG SIGH moments! Truly awesome stuff!

Back to the "buddy" question, I just remembered a bit of the dialog between Phil and David. Phil is telling David about his predicament and he says "I lost his numbers". David's retort is "Babes?" I don't know why that tickles me. First, it's classic David, but then it strikes me as so something two guys really would say. Gray, please correct me if I'm stereotyping the other side of the aisle.

3. Was Maddie really under the illusion that David would accept her news well, or was her breakfast attempt designed to snow him…a flirtation? Or was she snowing herself? HA! Poor delusional Maddie! Oh David lets have early breakfast together , David of course was probably like hmmm what is going on here? His mind wandering It's definitely the last thing David ever expected to hear from her. Did she really think he was going to jump for joy at her news. Well at first he kinda does cause he thinks Lou wants both of them, to David they are a package deal, but not to Maddie, not yet anyway. So he is thrown when Maddie says only her, and he feels kinda like one of the wobblies i guess. Cause Davids feeling more than business with Maddie, it's deeper and he thinks she feels that way too.Yup poor Delusional Maddie !
