This week we are reviewing the Season 5 episode, "Shirts and Skins". Today's guest reviewers have come to cheer on their supporters...introducing the representatives for both teams.
So without further delay, here they are...first up, we have representing "Shirts" a man who has turned sexual harassment into an art form, is founder and president of the Penthouse/Forum fan club...a man so dedicated to his family, he test drives his future step moms whenever possible...David Addison (yaaaaaay, Yaaay)
Now, representing "Skins", a woman so beautiful she makes grown men (and women) cry, so strong she's taken male abuse to an all time high, so comfortable in her skin, she wears sneakers with an evening gown...and there's no better skin to be in....Maddie Hayes (Yaaay, yaaay).
OKay, here are the questions folks...
1. At the beginning of the episode, Bert is supportive of Agnes’ attitude towards MacGillicudy’s request for Jamie to “freshen” his coffee. What transpires that changes Bert’s attitude? Is this change genuine?
2. In “Shirts & Skins”…David and Maddie decide to take the Neal Fass/Robin Fuller case on opposing sides. The challenge has already been set; yet, after Maddie disallows Agnes to assist David, he says…”just remember you lit the fuse” declaring it’s the “shirts against the skins, and I got shirts”. Why does David automatically assume to drag the Wobblies into their battle? What does it say about David’s POV in this episode towards women, based on his choice for “shirts”? Does this differ from the David Addison of the previous 4 seasons?
3. The Wobblies really get a chance to shine in this episode. Do you feel that the “shirts and skins” attitude has always been an underlying situation at Blue Moon (fictionally, we’ve already had the literal discussion) or is this a new thing for them?
4. Agnes asks Maddie in regard to looking into people’s private life “Isn’t this going a little too far?” Though they are a detective agency, Maddie’s response is based on her assumption of David’s personality. Do David and Maddie really go too far to prove a point to each other? If so, how?
5. This is a 2 part’er.
A. About half way through the episode, David calls a “cease fire” between the Wobblies, yet not with Maddie…Why is this?
B. David, after declaring the cease fire, goes directly into Maddie’s office proposing dinner yet trying to read her regarding the case {sneaky devil}. Do you feel Maddie would have resorted to what happens in the next scene if David had not gone into her office? Why or why not?
6. The “Pink Panther” scene is a great one for Maddie, one of my favorites. Taking your considerations from the previous question: Did David set a trap for Maddie, knowing she’d do anything to beat him? Do you think David is truly surprised at Maddie for going “beneath” him or does he see it coming?
7. What do you think of the Pink Panther scene in general? What does this say about Maddie’s mental growth or demise (lol) from the prior 4 seasons?
8. (Now, an Either/Or question) After Maddie pulls the power play on David… Agnes mentions there are no weapons on the Wobblies, etc; Maddie replies “just what I needed today, a palace revolt”. What does this statement say to you about how she views David, herself and the Wobblies? ~ or~ Do you feel the writers truly view ML as the “Camelot” of TV?
Sidebar…
Don’t you love the male Wobblies mask idea? (They never looked better)
9. We know David as a big ole softy for women, yet he sticks to his guns in this one. David reveals to Maddie that this has really been about her viewing him like a “Neal Fass”. What does this say about David’s growth when it comes to expressing his feelings to Maddie?
Sidebar for the ladies (sorry Gray ..wink)
Does Bruce look good or does Bruce look good as he walks away in the courthouse scene? (um, um , um~I like yo swagger Daddy)
10. The final question is…in the last scene, Maddie presents David with paper work for the partnership buy-in. Does Maddie’s suggestive attitude entice viewers to believe she’s making an effort to continue a sexual relationship with David?
