I need to throw in a question here.......I have always felt that the writers were still fleshing out the characters here. I have always thought it was weird that the three of them were in a club/bar...and that Maddie seemed to have a comfort level there -- sitting alone at the bar, talking on the phone, laughing and seeming quite at home.......weirdsville, as far as I am concerned! But here's the question: WHO THE HELL WAS SHE TALKING TO??? Hey diane! Loved your comments... About your question: let's analyze the scene. They're in a club, so that's the phone number of the club, not Maddie's...Therefore I guess it wasn't someone who called her (how could they know what number to dial?)... SHE called someone! Who? Let's make a poll: a) A friend from Chicago b) Her mother c) Agnes d) No one. She pretended she was on the phone to show her curves to the boys... Personally, I'd pick answer d)...

5. What happens between Maddie and Richie after David leaves the bar? ROFL:Ummmm not much! HAHA Well in think they talked alot. i think Ritchie probably tried to dazzle Maddie with the Addison charm but of course with lots of money behind the charm. We sure know our Maddie and she aint no one night stand kinda lady. She has to consider, contemplate LOL I'm sure she gave him a peck on the cheek goodnite and thats it. I'm sure Ritchie was disappointed though HEHEHE But when she comes in all smiles the next day. do we really believe that David would think Maddie and Ritchie slept with each other in one night?

But here's the question: WHO THE HELL WAS SHE TALKING TO??? LOL Diane! So true! It's definitley one of those scenes that makes no sense in the ML world for sure! it was before beepers and cell phones, so she wasnt returning a call. All of a sudden she decides to call someone? Guess the writers couldnt think of any other way for the boys to stare at Maddie and talk about her from afar, well she could have excused herself to go to the ladies room i guess LOL

...And last but not least... 6. What do you think is Maddie's "terrible confession"?OK kids, here comes my usual corner of creativity, so I'm gonna make some senseless talk...You're warned! Here we go: "Richie, I've a terrible confession to make... I like you! You're a very sweet man, I love spending my time with you, BUT... I'm fond of your brother David! He knows where my buttons are, he loves pushing them and I love his pushing... I can't imagine my life without him, and maybe, just maybe, his existence without me would be miserable, as well... I don't know...You know?" ;D ...And don't you dare say I didn't warn ya! ;D

Welcome to the Dave and Richie Show!! IMO, this is one of the best episodes of Season 2...on the surface, we have suspense and slapstick, but peel back the layers and you get sophisticated and complex character development. So let's dive right in! 1. What do we learn about Growing Up Addison in this episode? What, if any, bearing does this have on David's "live fast--die young--leave clean underwear" motto and seemingly incessant optimism? 2. Why do you think Maddie is attracted to Richie? Do you find their chemistry plausible? How does our perception of Richie differ from Maddie's? 3. Why does David tolerate (encourage?) Richie's flirtation with Maddie? And what exactly is fueling David's anger the next day? 4. When do you think Maddie's feelings toward Richie change? Have her feelings for David changed at all by the final scene? And, from the Speculations & Revelations department: 5. What happens between Maddie and Richie after David leaves the bar? 6. What do you think is Maddie's "terrible confession"? Let's start with these...and feel free to add any of your own! 1. Well as the oldest I understand siblings that come after have less responsibility, they are allowed to be themselves without so much pressure from the parents. I think that's how David has become comfortable in his skin but at the same time, he probably heard "Why can't you be more like your brother?" Although, David knew Richie for who and what he really is, the stealer of his girlfriends, allowance, toys and so forth. 2. Maddie attracted to Richie, HA! Maddie is attracted to his charm and personality, a mere facade of David...a familiarity of the things about David that make her smile but no pressures and obligatory ties. I don't think it differs much from ours, she never had any intentions other than having a good time with a new friend. Maddie didn't think with Richie, which shows the lack of attraction itself. If there had of been any thoughts of intimacy, she would have froze up quicker than you can say "Fine"! 3. David tolerates/encourages Richie's flirtatiousness with Maddie because he basically knew that it wasn't going to make Richie stop. Plus, it would make David have to admit that Maddie meant more to him than a business associate and friend. David wasn't ready for that, so, in turn is the anger we see in the bathroom. David is angry because he doesn't have the courage (so to speak) to own up to his love for Maddie. Furthermore, it hurt him to know she clocked out early to spend time with Richie...has Maddie ever done that for David? Just a thought 4. As I said before, I don't feel that genuine feelings were involved for Maddie in regards to Richie. Maddie decided to be honest with Richie right before David showed up at her house; so technically, that's when she felt a change to tell the truth, she had no interest in Richie other than friendship. Maddie's feeling only intensified by the end of the episode because she saw that David was willing to take a back seat and eat lots of crow to save her house. 5. After Maddie and Richie left the bar, they kicked it...bottom line. A clue to this is the fact their playing trivial pursuit when she leaves work. If you have someone in your house you are attracted to, the last game you're going to be playing is Trivial Pursuit...some other game like French Maid and Master maybe, lol. 6. Maddie's terrible confession is ...(drum roll please) she is using Richie to make David jealous so that David would make a real move on her...not the joking around but a honest attempt to form an intimate relationship with her. Jpen muah! Simply perfection with the questions~

Re: Diane's question: LOL! I wonder the same thing every time I watch this episode...and I agree with Rose and Diane that it was just one of those moments where the writers stepped out of what made sense--and hoped we wouldn't notice! There's a hilarious discussion of this question on the episode thread, which is why I didn't include it in my q's, but check it out: moonlighting.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=Brother&action=display&thread=150As for the "terrible confession," I agree with sinceifell that she was about to tell Richie she'd been using him to make David jealous. That would be scandalous for our scrupulous Ms. Hayes!

But here's the question: WHO THE HELL WAS SHE TALKING TO??? Too funny and too true, thought about that as well. Yet, knowing Maddie and my theory that she took this visit from David's brother as an opportunity to make David jealous..there I said it. Now the phone thing is very funny but remember this was the 80's when you could do that (I'm not going to tell you my age, let's just say I've partied from a very early age, did somebody say Drew Barrymore?) Any way...she gave the boys a chance to rattle each others cages, which falls in line with her just flirting with Richie and taking kindly to his advances ...need I say again to make David jealous. In this scene it clearly works, the look on David's face when she was dancing and laughing with Richie is a heart breaker , OMG, so manly yet sensitive at the same time. I Loved It. That's what I love about David Addison, he has a heart of gold !

Totally agree--when something really "gets" to Maddie, she goes into defensive mode (as she does, in fact, with David in his office the next day: "I'm not asking you anything!"). And good call on the Trivial Pursuit...not exactly strip poker, is it?

OK, the truth has to come out.
It was ME on the phone with Maddie. She called me from the bar. I told her some off color jokes to make her laugh.
I know she swore me to secrecy, but the statute of limitations has passed.

Well, dang! I missed out on some good stuff this time!! I was trying to recover from some minor surgery and the drugs had my eyes crossed!! I tried to tell everybody that I had to be good to go on Tuesday night, but nobody would listen.......LOL!! I have read most of the posts and find it heart warming to know that no one was to hard on MAddie because of her attraction to Richie. I don't know what I was worried about!! I think her attraction really shows us that David is not that far off the mark at all!!......and she knows it!! I love all of the episodes with Dave and Richie because we get to see what Addison's are really made of!! You add Addison Sr in the next season and there you have it---- a very complex Addison, JR.!! I agree with what gray said about sibling rivalry. It is very normal, even as grown ups in their late 20's and early 30's. I have 3 brothers and we would compete in many ways growing up!! But, when it came to the opposite sex, my brothers competed among themselves!! LOL!! What touches me the most about this episode is that for the first time (other than "Next Murder...")we really see how David feels about Maddie. And it is the first time that we see a recurring theme----- David's desire for Maddie's Happiness!! He loves her!!

....(honestly, we've incorporated the Addison clan into so much of Virtual, that sometimes I forget which parts are REAL ML, and which are VM "fantasies".) diane LOL!! I find that so funny, diane!! I thought the readers only had that problem.....kind nice to know you share the affliction!!! Now speaking of VM----and you brought it up!!----turn on the lights, will ya??!!
