Aww - that's so cute Sandra! I'm with Baby! I love that sad face he pulls - it gets to me everytime (Bruce is so good!) - you just wanna go up to him and hug him, it's adorable! :-) Sandra/BMS - OMG, does David look sexy or what? Wow, great scene. It shows just how much David has already started caring for Maddie. He looks so sad, yeah, I wish I could just give him the hug he needs at that moment! ;D

LOL MFD You'd hug him good girl :-) x Hugging him would be a dream. If I had a guy like David Addison, I'd be the luckiest girl on earth. I would never take him for granted. Never.

I have been thinking about this episode a lot recently for some unknown reason - well I guess it is one of my favourites and it has been a while since I watched it - which I will remedy when I get home this evening! In particular I just wondered if you had noticed the moment of acting genius which takes place in the car and which I watch and rewatch again and again because I can't believe how amazing it is. It is quite simple really and occurs when David and Maddie are talking about lying about her fathers affair. When David says the line about rather being home with a bag of oreos - the look that Maddie gives which is in between a laugh and a cringe is just perfect!! It says "I understand what you are saying, you always have a point and I love you and hate you for doing this" Check it out if you don't know what I am talking about. She looks out of the car window as she does it. Amazing acting as usual.
Now for some answers - but what were the questions...
Why do you think Maddie is attracted to Richie? Do you find their chemistry plausible? How does our perception of Richie differ from Maddie's?
I have NEVER understood what Maddie would possible see in Richie other than to make David jealous. She probably just wanted him to see that other men were attracted to her. There is nothing attractive about Richie compared to Dave. Especially as he acts so badly in the restaurant scene.
3. Why does David tolerate (encourage?) Richie's flirtation with Maddie? And what exactly is fueling David's anger the next day?
I think he tolerates it because he is still a bit confused about his feelings for Maddie and it is bravado to say to Richie - sure go ahead - rather than telling him to lay off her. He is angry because of his dislike of his brother and the rivalry between them. Richie is probably the last person he would want Maddie to be with.
4. When do you think Maddie's feelings toward Richie change? Have her feelings for David changed at all by the final scene?
I think they change when she finds out that the money isn't his. Sometimes Maddie is impressed by superficial things which shouldn't matter. Her and David definitely inch a little closer by the last scene and their fondness for each other is apparent.
And, from the Speculations & Revelations department:
5. What happens between Maddie and Richie after David leaves the bar?
He drives her home and she gives him the cold shoulder - Maddie style. That's all.
6. What do you think is Maddie's "terrible confession"?
That she is beginning to have feelings for Ritchie?

Enjoyed reading your thoughts on this episode, Snappy. This is one of my favorite episodes too, and I like to think and re-think it over and over. My thoughts on this: I absolutely agree that David and Richard can't compete. David wins every time But I think Maddie was truly attracted to him. He was charming, funny, plus he showed his attraction to Maddie openly (something Maddie will expect from David later I don't think Maddie was trying to make David jealous, simply because I don't think she realized she was in love with him at that time already. Snappy, my question: would you go out with Richard?

I wouldn't go out with Ritchie but then I am not sure I would go out with David either!
Please don't all hate me but if I was Maddie the show would probably also have ended with just pals .....

Nobody here will ever hate you for your opinion, Tamm.
I think David Addison would be extremely attractive to, but way out of the norm for lots of girls.
I'm pretty sure even though I might think it would be the wrong thing to do, I would have succumbed to the attraction!

I always felt like Maddie was a little attracted to Richie, but in the beginning i think it was more that she was trying to be nice to David's brother. The realization that she might feel something for David hits her while she's at her house with Richie...David gave her money (stolen, but still he came to her rescue) to help her save her house and didn't ask for anything in return. But, I think she sensed David was keeping his distance from her, letting her decide for herself if she was truly interested in Richie.
Maddie was smart enough in the end to see through David....

Agree, bees...and that last scene is one of my favorite "tags"--Maddie is the perfect combination of sweet with just a tiny hint of suggestive, and David's face is priceless!

The final scene is great! They both practically declared their feelings to each other in their manner, of course. I could never understand HOW on earth these two could act afterwards like as if the sweet/seductive exchange never happened? You think they just were not ready yet?

Yes, Goldie, I think they were not ready yet...and the writers didn't think the audience was ready, either.

I know, Tamm...I wonder if anyone has made a video stringing some of the best "tag" scenes together...the end of this one, "Lady in the Iron Mask," "Big Man," "Wonderful Job"...so many great-great ones!
