COOL!!! Thank you, buddy!! This kind of research makes my day!!!! I'll be perusing it... ;D You're right about the flamethrowers! I hadn't thought about them. Yeah, I'd take the risk, too... I'd assign the soldier to a safe station, though...A tank, a hill, or something, depending on the battlefield... graycav... !!!

a funny quote:
M: "Omar Gauss!" D: "Gesundheit!"
It struck me because I didn't know that there are such german words used in english - gesundheit is the german word for health and we say it when somebody sneezes - whereas in english you say "god bless you".
And Inoticed another german word used in "Next murder..." when David talks about McCain who "boinked a couple of hausfraus" - hausfrau is german and means housewife!
Are there any other germanisms in english? Interesting for me. I knew only kindergarten and angst (german for fear).

Did anybody notice that in her first scene in this ep, Maddie was sitting behind her desk, with her feet on the desk?? Is this unbelievable or what? Hairstyle - come on, folks, don't be too severe - those were the eighties! Not a too bad decade, my youth... but I disgress. Didn't Maddie look ten years younger in the the pool dive scene? Wet did become her indeed! Ok, here are my fav quotes (probably some of them have already been mentioned): D: "Maddie, Maddie, Maddie! Guy to girl, outie to innie - Preston Holt is a barracuda!" M: "Good, I feel like a little seafood!" (my fav Maddie line here!) Holt: "Is he yours?" (referring to Papa Bear) M: "Mine? Him? Sure!" M: "You're standing in my doorway." D: "You don't have to thank me now." Gauss: "Were you prone when Holt told you that?" M: "I beg your pardon?!" D: "Wait a second, answer the question!" (interested, huh? ;D) M: "Brian Baker called me names, Preston Holt lied to me, Omar Gauss mocked me. I don't think I like men any more." D: "We still like you." M: "What's it for?" (the rope) D: "For? What's it for? You pull on this and the butler brings you food." D: "Having fun yet?" (right before the pool dive) D: "Don't get cocky, I've seen you in your underwear!" D: "You're alright, kid!" M: "You're not bad yourself, fella. Not at all!" (*melt*) D: "Were both your feet on the floor when Holt told you Omar was giving him Baker's secrets?" M: "Excuse me?!" D: "I'll rephrase the question. Did you have an unobstructed view of the sky or the ceiling when this information was imparted?" M: "I'm not answering these questions!" D: "A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice!" M: "I hate you!" D: "I thought you said you were having fun! I know I'm having a good time..."

Is this the episode with the rhetorical questions gags? I loved that - Maddie: 'You answer all my questions with a question! David: I do? lol. Always cracks me up. The bantering really takes off here doesn't it? With regard to the hair - well, she does make her way through an entire hair mag that's for sure but I'm a Cybill fan and think she can work them all! The fact that they're crazy about each other already is stamped all over it. Hey they even get down to their underwear already- love the bit where they jump into the pool; it certainly beats most day jobs. ;D

No, bms, the ep you're referring to with the answer-question-with-question is "twas the ep before Christmas". It's got a lot of great lines too.

ps what is the line where David says ' I hold your self esteem in ...now it sounds like apparent raise, or a pair of trays' it's been bugging me and my best mate for 20 years! xx It's "You have your self-esteem and a pair of treys." In other words, a pair of threes.

Among others: Doppelganger (without รค dots), Blitzkrieg, Wunderkind, basically all the Yiddish words Americans use (verkackt, schlepp(en))...ok, I can't think of others right now, but I think there's even a Wikipedia entry on that . Kindergarten is apparently used in MANY languages (in Ecuador for example, it's also Kindergarten) which is apparently because Germans invented the Kindergarten concept. It's a bit how tie is Krawatte in German, which stems from Kroate, since ties come from Croatia (the French "stole" them).

One thing I noticed and that maybe the Americans in the group can give their 2 cent's to:
Did anyone else notice that they dress up the dummy for the presentation in the stereotypical way of a Vietnam veteran? Was that some social commentary or hidden jab? I mean it was the 80s and barely 10 years after, but it seems like it's no coincidence that they gave the dummy this kind of semi hobo look.
