4. I don't think that Maddie expected: 1. Annie to come onto Dave 2. Dave to hit on Annie 3. Annie and Dave to hook up 4. Dave to dismiss the fact that Annie was married I agree with this wholeheartedly - I think Maddie had become complacent in her expectation that David would always be right there, pining for her. I don't think it ever crossed her mind that he would get serious with anyone, let alone her cousin. Which makes her foolish and arrogant. Some parts of me were happy to see him 'be a man' and go for another woman, but the *A* setup was so stinky that it undermined any positives.

I agree with those who have said that Maddie kept pushing David away and gave him his walking papers signed, sealed and delivered. And that this in some way allows David to be with another woman.
But, I don't think Maddie realized how she would feel until it happened. Take out the fact that Annie is her cousin and you have just another woman. Would she still be jealous?

Sorry for the multiple posts ladies, but I'm trying to make it to the second level! (Just joking)
Anyhow, to answer question 5, I refer to a post I put in another thread: "The gender swap of the last scene in which Maddie breaks in and falls asleep in David's bed instead of the other way around I thought was interesting. OK, Maddie shows up but for what? To finally confront David in a manner similar to what Dave did earlier? To declare herself a player in the Addison Sweepstakes? Not really. She just wanted him to lay off her married cousin. David was beyond hearing more Maddie preaching long before this scene."
I thought this scene COULD have rekindled the romance. This COULD have been a good knock down, drag out between D&M that would have showed them what REAL love was, versus the infatuation with Annie. Alas, it was not to be.

So, to recap: 1. Demi was a cameo marketing ploy 2. Dave might have been reeled in if Maddie showed him some interest in the dance, but that was only one of the many times she rebuffed him. 3. Annie started out bad, and dragged Dave right along (willingly) 4. Maddie brought on David moving on, but not with Annie...that was their doing 5. A wasted opportunity by the writers to get the show back on track. Imagine that!
This was fun!

Comment on what you said, manitoba, about Maddie not thinking that David would get serious with anyone which ties in to bees question about jealousy. I go back to Maddie's comment to her shrink that she and David had finally gotten to a good place and she finally seemed to be at peace, no longer needing therapy. It's almost as if Maddie thought everything would remain status quo and never considered how she would feel if David became involved with someone else. I think that rocked her. She was no longer in control. Back to the shrink!!

By the way, the shrink was NOT listed in the ending credits, therefore I remain in my belief that she was some stagehand's mother.

Did anyone else think that it was a HUGE move on Maddie's part to even go over to David's and attempt to have a conversation with him? I mean it has always been David chasing after her when she gives the old "Hayes backside". She has only done this one time, in MTTC. And that turned out differently, didn't it?! I'm with you. Maddie has learned to face her emotions... a little. The struggle is still there, anyway. However, this time David is not "receptive", downright uninterested in what Maddie's trying to tell him. This is NOT David. The writers are to blame for what we're watching here. I mean, David's been in love with Maddie for 5 years...5 years!!!! It was no puppy love. It was something you can build an eternal relationship on. And what does he do? He leaves her there, night in her heart, just to pursue a fling. Because that's what A***e is. No way he would leave Maddie for someone he's known for TWO DAYS. And I wish to say this predicament is NOT like the Bishop thing: Maddie got married because was not able to find answers to her deafening questions.... Instead, we're talking about s-e-x here, folks. Animal attraction. No thoughts. Just instinct..... THIS IS NOT DAVID!!!!! NOT AFTER WHAT D&M WENT THROUGH!!!!!!!
