5. Maddie says that her smile is her scar tissue and that she has seen her own share of "blocks". Do you believe her or is she just trying to make Agnes feel better? Do you think this is why she has her defenses up when it comes to David's charms at this point?
I think this is the interesting question digging into her past, and I think both possible. Glad to see Maddie and Agnes seem to have developed their friendship in this episode.
6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people???
I always wondered why that train was so bigcbut really enjoyed watching the good scenery in this episode and I also liked that train station, classicl! Wonder it was a real one or a set?

Well, now that I'm back from my sleep study, that actually turned into a LACK of sleep study, I see that we have a peculiar lack of activity on the old Rewatching thread.
I certainly hope my brash power grab by posting my preemptive questions hasn't offended the goddesses of the boards and that they will enjoin the banter forthwith! Thanks lin, bees and marple for getting things going.
Which leads me to think that when we do Atomic Shakespeare, all questions will be in iambic pentameter.

So nice to see you take over this week Guess us girls were busy busy busy, i know i sure have been. This is such a fun episode. Only drama is the death on the train but it's still too early in the series for M/D drama. But yes there is some flirting going on The train bed scene is LOL hysterical! Our man sure was dreaming of being with Maddie already huh? LOL Agnes is too funny in this episode. Maddie sure was mad at our David or so she seemed LOL Maddie's hair was kinda up,down, sideways LOL Oh But that woman looks good messy!

Thanks for the Qs gray...sorry to be AWOL, but it was baseball-O-Rama here. I don't have much to add , except I thought there were some classic Maddie moments in this one: love the contrast of her looking so elegant at the beginning of the ep, and then her hair falling down and shoe off after her tussle with David--just a great visual representation of how David affects her! And the whole train bed scene is one of my favorites...I dream of writing repartee that witty! ;D

Just realized I never answered my own questions. So, without further delay: 1. Maddie's hair in this episode was up, down and in between. Which do YOU like best? I "normally" like it down, but damn she looked fine when it was up but had some of it falling around the sides of her face. Total yummy. 2. Maddie didn't disagree with David's assessment of her pending night on the town probably being a snoozer. What kind of date DO you think she had lined up? You folks, as well as Dave, nailed it. Another date like the plastic surgeon in the pilot that was going to go absolutely nowhere. I mean, who else would get Maddie to go YEE HAH on the roof of a moving train? 3. In the train cabin, Dave was getting pretty frisky with Miss H. He has her sit beside him, he closes the drapes, he turns down the lights....yet she doth not protest. Hmmm. Do you think if he had played his cards right he might have not had to wait until the end of Season Four for the big payoff??? Sorry Dave, but while Maddie may have shown an initial willingness to go along for the ride, she wasn't "going along for the ride" if you know what I'm saying. But it was a fun few minutes. 4. Dave tells Maddie his story of how he caused the great blackout of 1965, a story he has never told anyone before. Is this instance of him "opening up" significant in the development of their relationship? Agree with others that this didn't seem to be a landmark turn in their relationship, but I don't think he was trying to keep her on the train, only to keep her from that obviously crappy date she was heading for. 5. Maddie says that her smile is her scar tissue and that she has seen her own share of "blocks". Do you believe her or is she just trying to make Agnes feel better? Do you think this is why she has her defenses up when it comes to David's charms at this point? I wish they would have developed Maddie's Pre-Blue Moon a bit more. There were only brief, fleeting references to her modeling career and I thought there were a couple of cool story lines that could have come from old pals needing help, at least old pals who don't wield laser guns. More to the point, I think any supermodel of the late 60's through the 70's saw and met LOADS of men....but none as charming as me or Dave. 6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people??? It was the '80's.....big hair...big shoulder pads.....big trains!

I believe Maddie. I bet she has come across her share of creeps in her line of work and is pretty wary of men in general. Yep, you nailed it, lin. But could you believe your ears hearing Maddie say "We're all scared, Agnes, but you can't let it stop yourself from getting where you have to go!" Says who?! Says Miss I-don't-give-myself-to-people Hayes?! Should have taken her own advice, right? Do we have a foreshadow of later conflicts here? In a similar situation David said "Can't argue with kismet, can ya?" Of course she isn't at all pleased that he once again figured her (and her date) out - I bet he gave a pretty good description of what was planned! Did you notice BTW how he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her near when he said "...that makes you and me mice!" (after Agnes exclaimed "It's like Cinderella!") Maddie didn't like that either, but could't bring herself to pull away, why's that? The mind reels... Ok, I'll spit out my fav quotes! Agnes: "It's from him!" D: "Doesn't he do the burning bush thing?" M: "...why can't you just say 'I hope you have a nice time'?" (because he doesn't, blondie!! And if you scrutinize his face, you'll notice that very clearly!) D: "I hope you have a nice time." M: "Thank you." D: "Whatever curdles your cream." A: "Thanks for helping me with my stuff." D: "We wouldn't dream of leaving you stuffless." D: "Elegant button!" M: "What are you doing?" D: "Just wanna see how these things work." M: "Why?" D: "Because it's there!" (what's most funny about that - men are really like this! ) D: "You know what your problem is?" M: "I'm sure you're gonna tell me." D: "Whenever I see a button..." M: "Press it!! Put me out of my misery and press it!!" (hmmmmm... now is this supposed to be a double entendre? I'm not sure...) D: "Just how cold and unfeeling do you think I am? Don't answer, it's an essay question. Think about it for a minute." D: "I love it when you talk mean to me." ;D M: "Addison!! We're moving!" D: "Do we have to? All my friends go to this school!" LOL!! M: "Addison, you better find a way to get me off this train!!" D: "Whoa lady! I'll gladly get you off this train, I'll throw you off this train if necessary, but please restrain from any physical act that isn't of an erotic nature!" LMAO!!! But the sweetest line belongs to David, and I know you all love it: "The night before DiPesto was born, God went to a great party." Great-great, I'd say! And now... from me to all my friends a gooood night!

Sandra - I agree with those lines- they're my favourite too! :-) Would also like to add: the bit where Agnes is staring into space and everyone is concerned 'One minute she was trying to find words that rhymed with detective, the next she was staring into space.' David: 'Effective?' :-) and 'She's right, she wasn't born yesterday, I had lunch with her.'
1- Hair up but messy= best 2- Definitely an NSM night and she knew David was right AGAIN 3- Dave takes her as far as he dares go every time ha ha- he just didn't bargain for the bed folding up with them in it! Love the way they keep arguing the whole time they're in the wall. I think he thinks she's too good for him but he will always see how much he can get away with just to have time with her/time with the Maddie that's not in the office. That's why he's not too bothered when he realises the train is not going to stop for 24hrs. 4- I have a different theory on the black out story. It's a little narrative plot pattern- I'll explain. He tell his childhood story and also she tells hers about the peas (eating them all so they don't get lonely) - this enhances whole childhood aspect of story line - the whole exciting and romantic notion of investigating and mysteries - Sherlock Holmes (which is cited in episode), Cluedo, Miss Marple etc. It's like the mystery is when you play detectives when you're a kid kind of thing. I probably didn't explain that very well... 5-I think she believes that her smile is indeed a scar - it shows us that she is sad that she is single and the smile hides all the bad dates and failed relationships so far? Hmmm 6-Yes that's a darn long train for 6 people - but then they might have been 6 peeps with big egos that needed extra luggage room lol.
There ya go :-) I was such a fan by this stage in the game - they'd got me! :-)

PS: Is it just me - when Maddie is chasing Rodney she has a knife in her hand - then she disappears into a cabin and comes out without it - then she looks in the next cabin and reappears withthe knife? Hmmm

Secondly, I suppose I will have to watch this ep again because I don't remember Maddie's pea story. As if I needed an excuse .

2. Maddie didn't disagree with David's assessment of her pending night on the town probably being a snoozer. What kind of date DO you think she had lined up? - I hate to say this but for all we know it could have been Sam. Ugh! Glad things did not go as planned! - Hmmm. I think she was humoring him and she was frustrated too but she might have wanted a little something happen. One can only wish. 4. Dave tells Maddie his story of how he caused the great blackout of 1965, a story he has never told anyone before. Is this instance of him "opening up" significant in the development of their relationship? - Maybe a little more insight into Dave's personality. How easy he takes the blame for almost anything even when it's obvious it's not his fault? lol! ) 5. Maddie says that her smile is her scar tissue and that she has seen her own share of "blocks". Do you believe her or is she just trying to make Agnes feel better? Do you think this is why she has her defenses up when it comes to David's charms at this point? - A little of both. It's easy to give others advice but when it comes to yourself and taking action is a whole other matter. I like that she tried to be honest with Agnes so maybe she was being as truthful as she could be. 6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people??? Yeah, it is! lol!

OK, I just got a call that my sleep study has been moved from Tomorrow to Tonite, so I will join this discussion in progress, so to speak. I love this episode. It was the first one I ever saw...and you never forget your first. Here are some things I would like to know: 1. Maddie's hair in this episode was up, down and in between. Which do YOU like best? 2. Maddie didn't disagree with David's assessment of her pending night on the town probably being a snoozer. What kind of date DO you think she had lined up? 4. Dave tells Maddie his story of how he caused the great blackout of 1965, a story he has never told anyone before. Is this instance of him "opening up" significant in the development of their relationship? 5. Maddie says that her smile is her scar tissue and that she has seen her own share of "blocks". Do you believe her or is she just trying to make Agnes feel better? Do you think this is why she has her defenses up when it comes to David's charms at this point? 6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people??? 1. I liked it up better. Cybil Shepherd looked HOT. I saw the show a handful of times as a kid, and didn't think either of them looked too glamorous. I've been watching the shows recently, and while I think Shepherd is an attractive woman, I never completely got how she was supposed to be so gorgeous. She seemed more like a well-dressed business woman, than some beautiful former model. But I totally get it in this episode. The hair put up, the sequined dress and the fur. Every bit the glamor model there. And the poise. But yeah, hair up. 2. Probably another guy like the one from the pilot. As hot as Maddie is, and her status as a former model, that guy in the pilot was boring AND not good looking. I think David hit the nail on the head when he said something like, "you have to cut his food up for him." She was probably pissed she didn't get to go out, but she would have been more pissed if it was with some guy she was REALLY into. 3. No. I don't think she was into him yet. At best, she thought his little flirtations were cute at best, coming from someone that was nowhere near her league. 4. Considering it wasn't that private a story, it was either the writer's showing us that David has fallen for Maddie, and not just her looks. OR he was giving her a line, "I've never told anyone that story before," to make her THINK he's opening up, or having fun at her expense in typical David fashion. Yeah David, that's such a private, intimate story to keep bottled up. 5. Yeah, I believe her. It's obvious that Maddie lacks confidence in the relationship department. She's supposed to be a former model, but she doesn't act like one. She's way too sensitive, compassionate, and responsible to have been in a career that's based on superficiality. She's the type that falls for the guy, and the guy ends up cheating on her. 6. Yeah. When we had shots of the entire train moving, I wondered, "are there no other people on this train?" When it didn't seem that way, I then wondered, how could they possibly believe they would solve the real murder? The murdered could have hid the weapon and any other clues all over that big ass train.
