Who do you think really won the bet? Did either of them win, both of them or or neither of them rose Maddie thinks she won in two ways. 1) She proved to David that he could not go 24hrs. as a mature adult. 2) She realized she liked the old David as opposed to the new one, so she felt like she won the bet, but also got to keep the old David.... David thinks he won because Maddie confessed to him during the licking dog story that she would rather he not change, that she missed the old David. Is that worth more to him than the money or the limbo? Maybe! But really, they both won. Good answer, good answer, bees. I totally agree. Technically, Maddie did win the bet, but David ended up proving his point that sometimes it pays not to be a mature adult. Maddie realizes this and lets him off the hook. Maddie admits to David, the kids and herself that a "de-Daved" Dave is no Dave at all. So, yeah, they both won.

Another question: If David simply goes along with the bet just for the challenge and the fun of it, why then does he get mad and seem hurt before the bet is agreed upon? And then again when it appears that Maddie has won the bet? Well, I think the first reason he gets mad and hurt is that he doesn't really see the need to change. He honestly believes that he is keeping morale up, and therefore keeping Blue Moon on an even keel. Later on, he is ticked because first, he LOST, which is enough on its own, but second, because Maddie waffled back and forth so many times and actively TRIED to get Dave to lose. He felt there was a lack of honor on the part of his competitor in that manner. I think you're on to something here, gray. David is the chief cuckoo in this nest and he thinks he is doing a damn great job keeping the kids happy. David likes to measure everything by the fun barometer and he works really hard to make sure that everyone is happy. And later, he is ticked because he lost, but also because Maddie doesn't give an inch. No room for spontaneity here!

Folks, somebody must help me to figure out how I can frame a post to comment on it, please!!! There were so many good points in this discussion I wanted to directly react to! I just watched the ep and it was again sooooooo funny! The limboing is one of the scenes I remember vividly from when I first saw it - and I'm talking about 1990 here!! The scene when he walks behind her - "elephant walk" somebody here called it - mocking her - priceless!! I think it's a great ep, as you already said it, it has everything in it that makes a good ep, has it "hot" moments too, of course - thinking about the moment in his office when he almost "backs" her at the door talking of betting "something that really matters"... ;D And of course Agnes is really sweet in her loyalty, and the line "you de-Daved him, and dat's dat!" is a classic. Like also Maddie's furious "De-Daved him? I'll de-Dave them all!! They'll think it's D-Day around here, damn them!" Now good night to everybody, it's nearly midnight here. And please, it would be really great-great if somebody could explain me the thing with commenting the comments (hope I explain myself...) Thanks again for the great company.

Before I get into the questions - great ones, all - I just wanted to make a comment. To me, this episode is quintessential Moonlighting. Both Maddie and David are true to character, Agnes is great, and even the wobblies do a great job, albeit in silence. There is chemistry, banter and overlapping dialog. Did I mention, that they both look great? Totally agree, lin. The chemistry, especially, SIZZLES--that look between them in his office is habanero-hot!! You got it, jpen! My absolute favorite moment of that ep!!!

This question relates to the scene when David and Maddie go to the apartment building to drop off the ransom. David tells Maddie that he thinks she should wait in the car. Do you think David is sincere in his concern for her well-being or is he just playing her? he' sincere there, I think. He's always concerned for her well-being, only hadn't there been the bet, he would have expressed that with other words, just macho-like told her to stay in the car to avoid having her "do" messed up or s.th. like that... (always hiding his sincere concern of course...) I like that line "If anything ever happened to you, honey..." Never realized before he called her that! BTW, don't you absolutely love the look he gives her when he speaks about preferring risking his own, thick neck instead of her "pretty, long one" - gotta watch his mouth in that little pause before he says that! He's licking his lips without licking them! Is hat hot or what?!

Why do you think David went along with Maddie's proposal? beesI think that David wanted to prove Maddie wrong...and when she told him that the prize would be 3 Gs, he was in. Having Maddie limbo would be the icing on the cake. He would just love to embarrass her in front of the kids. yes, lin, totally agree. I think embarassing her would be so much more worth to him than the 3.000 G. As he said in the end (when she left him off the hook, because "maybe... I just wanted to be nice." - "Nah!"): " I would have made you limbo!" But her reaction there I find pretty cool, as she replies lightly "I know." Shiows kina acceptance of his ways IMO, what do you think?

having rewatched this ep closely, I've come up with a few thoughts. First of all, in the beginning, I got to say, Maddie is right this time. Throwing a big limbo party in the office is absolutely no-go. And if a real client had stepped in, he surely wouldn't have hired Blue Moon. Maddie is right, she gives non-existing jobs to the staff, keeping an unnecessarily high amount of employees on her payroll and seeing every month to all the bills get paid. On her own financial risk. It's clear that trying to make the agency work is essential, and I can understand her anger, because the scene she's watching makes her think she's the only one interested in making the agency work. And frankly, I don't quite get why David was angry at her understandable reaction. She's also right when she says he has to be more a boss than a buddy, at least a bit. But then she's going over the line of course, demanding that David change his personality completely, his walking, talking, gesturing - now he's right, her demands go quite to the essentials of his personality. Anyway, the bet was good for them both, pretty soon she came to realize that she wants him just the way he is, even if that's driving her nuts sometimes. I LOL everytime I watch those little moments when we clearly see how much David enjoys driving her crazy with his new, sober and mature behavior (watch the smirking look he gives her from behind when they are talking to Clark after the first kidnapping!). No, of course he's not letting her off the hook that easily - in their car conversation about the dog of her childhood she practically admits she was wrong and has to accept him like he is, and he knew it. But ok, after having him reduced that much I guess it was ok to make her squirm a little. ;D After her confession that she misses the old David and wants him back, Maddie does no longer really care about the bet IMO, I think she is relieved to call it off, declare it over after David's "Ricky Nelson" performance. That moment she already had decided she'd let him off the hook and wouldn't make him fire the two guys. This time it's her letting him squirm a little. Ah, how well-balanced their relationship is! I like very much the softness and yes, golden heart she shows in the end. Yes, a really great ep; I think it'll make it on my Top 6 list!

Ooh, can't wait to join in on this one...this is such a favourite ep of mine! It's the high speed Moonlighting roller coaster of fun n frolics all the way- woooooooooo! :-)
Okay my take on the ep (the bluemoonshampoo way: with a table spoon of moonbeams thrown in for good measure).
Hey the bad guy right at the start is quite hot in a funny kind of way (obviously not as hot as Dave- but Dave's volcano hot and this guy is like a match light hot lol).
Okay let's get going: Love, love the hilarious juxtaposition between the classical piano music at the start and Dave's Limbo session music - spot on! Who directed this one?- it's a gem. Also, isn't it just so painfully exquisite when Maddie bursts in and the staff go silent except for Addison? He's like a proud man floundering in a pool - a pool of what? Just a pool. I love him more for it :-) BYAM I reckon that Cybill and Bruce might have had a little tiffette before they shot this one as boy, Maddie Hayes has steam coming out of every orifice- well almost every orifice! That is mad personified.
The banter in the office that commences after this is Moonlighting magic (alliteration intended) - it is sooooooo fast it's like the one way locomotive to hell. Get on if you dare! The comic one-liners just keep coming at you like bullets on a rifle range - particularly liked 'What is that man doing on the floor having sex with himself?!' and 'It's like when you get a pimple on the end of your nose, then you get a cold and you gotta blow it...' and 'Why don't you try working standing up?!'
And it continues at this wonderful pace (take note series 5!) ... out she comes into the office and 'ADDISON!'. The staff team are excellent in this- their first big ep really. The big freeze - love how every employee eye is on David's side - poor Maddie. It's great how Cybill reacts here - like her character forgot herself for a minute in her rage and realises that she's not acting mature here either. Then she pulls herself together and we're off into David's office...
Favourite bit in David's office is his clever way of saying he'll act more mature in a totally immature way- fabulous! 'What do you mean by mature Ms Hayes?' said whilst using sarcastic voice and mannerisms. Maddie has some good lines here too 'That's not a personality, that's an affliction!' And yes, yes Sandra- love that slow moment- following all the mile a minute dialogue- when he talks of something 'that really matters' and she assumes sex lol. It works so well because they'd slow it down just for those moments when they are intimate before chugging off at full speed again. Oh why, oh why did they lose this pace in series 5? Like the way David answers the phone in this scene too- too funny- almost more funny when he's trying to be serious.
Did anyone else think Clarke's mum is like the mum in 'Two and a Half Men?' - she'd make a buck out of those boys! Just an observation.
I realise that I'm mouthing off about this episode in a rather over exuberant manner; just can't help myself- I have so many favourite moments in here. So, whilst I'm still allowed the floor space and I haven't been sent to my room yet: another piece of subtle comic timing is when they accept the $50,000 - and David enters the office for some more Limbo celebration. It always tickles me when the staff are ready in seconds flat to start limboing again - the stick comes out - the toilet roll is ready - stereo comes out of hiding... and action! Maddie's line here stands out '55 Yrs old, gut hanging over his belt- going do bears bear? Do bees bee?' lol funny to think that that much time has gone by? And Bruce ain't got no beer gut that's for sure - but I think he still has a few 'Bears bear in him'.
Additionally...yes there's more. It's so cute when Maddie compares him to her old dog licking her face when she disguises her apology. I guess he is like an energetic puppy dog when it comes to Maddie - lol.
I better wrap this up before they move me to cable, or Sunday nights...I think I may have spotted some dialogue being read off the car windscreen in this one! I'm not surprised - this script had to be one of the longest so far in terms of over-lapping dialogue. It's about half way through ep and they're talking over each other and you can see Maddie's eyes following something across the screen - and she looks up at screen for another line - I may be totally wrong but I was looking for it- so maybe I wanted to see it? See if you agree. :-)
Well glad I got that out of my system...back to work tomorrow so there may be a delay until I can comment on 'Knowing Her' but I can't wait. :-)

...oh, and Maddie, one more thing: you're not totally wrong, maturity is its own reward, but dig this: Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you If you're young at heart For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind If you're young at heart
You can go to extremes with impossible schemes You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams And life gets more exciting with each passing day And love is either in your heart or on its way
Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on Earth To be young at heart For as rich as you are it's much better by far To be young at heart
And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive out of being alive Then here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very young at heart
And if you should survive to 105 Look at all you'll derive out of being alive Then here is the best part You have a head start If you are among the very young at heartJust a thought.
