6. I could do about 50 questions on this topic....but let's just keep it open ended. Discuss the scene at Maddie's door........
Still makes me cry...and Bruce looks good in the rain!!!
But really, I think it's one of the most powerful scenes in the whole show...or maybe TV period.
And sorry, I can't let this one go without saying something about how they use the music here as well. The looping of the beginning of "Since I Fell" is electrifying and the work of a genius to use that song in the first place, given they danced to it in the pilot.

What kinds of things would have made their way into the episodes, had product placement been an advertising method in 1987? Alcoholic beverages.....Ford....Birthcontrol ... "This Episode of Moonlighting is brought to you by Smith and Wesson, Tide with Bleach and FTD...don't pick the flowers, pick up the phone instead."

5. Maddie does not end up connecting with a stranger. Is that because of the circumstances, or because of who she is? Both. I think those "toads" saved her a lot of heartache...though in the end if she had had a one nighter (which I think is very unlike her anyway) maybe Sam wouldn't have been at her door?...but then we wouldn't have the Fab Four, now would we?!

3. Bruce's acting is always acknowledged in this episode, and rightly so. But what is your feeling about Cybill's acting here? Who had the harder job with this episode and why?
Bruce has this one, hands down. Actually, it doesn't seem that Cybill has that much screen time in this episode, whereas Bruce is in practically every scene. Cybill does a great job with her part, but Bruce exhibits so many emotions over the course of this episode. He starts off as his usual self, but then moves through concern, panic, love, disappointment and finally total devastation. WOW. Spectacular.

4. David tells Maddie she should talk to him because they are "friends". Are they really friends? Got any better words to describe their relationship at this point?
This is where some smart folks should have invented another word to describe these two. Acquaintances, contacts, buddies, pals, associates, partners, allies...nothing seems to fit. Lovers? Not in the traditional sense of the word. Lovettes? Pre-Lovers (kinda like that pre-engagement ring thing)? Budding Boinkers To Be?

I don't think anyone really knew what they were, including them....budding boinkers ;D But, I do believe they knew each other probably better than best friends. ...and now that I've thought about it, they would consider themselves friends who secretly want more...

5. Maddie does not end up connecting with a stranger. Is that because of the circumstances, or because of who she is? The hopeful guy in me thinks that Maddie would have wound up at home with a cup of cocoa....no pool boy in tow. Her romantic notions of a quickie romance were dashed with the run ins with the two guys at the bar, bringing Miss Hayes quickly back to the realization that those places weren't filled with Prince Charmings...they were populated with toads like me. She would have found error messages with every cad that came by, rebooting to the cool, calculating Maddie we know and love. At least that is what I would hope for. Right on, gray. My sentiments exactly. Once Maddie spent a few moments in the presence of the gems in Metropolis, her fire was quickly doused. I could just hear her saying "what was I thinking??"

IMHO, this is one of the most powerful scenes in the entire series. Is there a part of me that wishes Maddie opened the door and David had the opportunity and courage to tell her all those things that he had on his mind and in his heart? Sure. But, alas, that was not the path we were going to take. Given that, this scene was perfection....the rain, the pounding on the door, calling up to Maddie's window and the pain and disbelief on David's face when Sam answered the door. The loop of "If I Fell" still gives me knots in my stomach, knowing what lies ahead. And then there is the rain mixing with David's tears, the freeze frame, Al Jarreau's beautiful song continuing on through the credits. Kudos to Jay Daniels!

Tough one, diane. I don't think the English language has a word that adequately describes these two - maybe "in care" friends?

Just a thought or question: 1. Does anyone wonder if during the bar scene where Cybill walks past Bruce sitting at the bar if there are any outakes of her thumping his head or tweaking his ear as she goes by??!! ;D

Follow up to diane's script comments. Agree that the dialog is pretty much the same, but the stage directions are more detailed and a bit more suggestive, especially in the opening scene. Other than Maddie's more aggressive demeanor that diane already mentioned, I also noticed one slight difference in the office scene dialog when Maddie is telling David that he "doesn't want to hear this". David says, "Yes I do. Maddie...I care about you. I want to know how you feel. I want to hear whatever you want to tell me". I am assuming that this was shosrtened because it was a little too revealing.

The writing staff sure coulda used you--can't you just see "Budding Boinkers to Be" as the tagline in a TV Guide ad? ;D

Floating between Philadelphia and tormenting the Commies along the Inter-German Border if I recall correctly.
