OK. Now I'm finished, and here I come with the rest... just had to finish my cigarette.
4. Why can't David express his feelings to Maddie during their confrontation?
Well, because he doesn't know what's happening, just like hey, am I in the wrong movie or what? Wasn't that you sitting on my trunk last night and telling me you hate me? I mean, hello?? What's happened to Maddie? Why is she so angry at him? None of his damn business? Huh? Wasn't everything settled? He's just completely shocked by her reaction.
And he wanted to tell her, he tried, but she cut him off every time he started to speak! Put her hand on his chest and pushed him away! Did you noticed how he looked at her hand pushing him, completely taken aback? Come on, I wouldn't have said a thing!
5. Agnes and Bert...aren't they the cutest ever? Why is their relationship so uncomplicated?
Is it? So far, they did a pretty dance around each other as well, I think! But yes, theirs is becoming far more uncomplicated than the D/M relationship. Because they both don't seem to be harmed by bad relationships as D/M, so they're not so much on their guard, have no fear of flying aka telling the person they love that they love him/her!
6. Give us your interpretation of "The barrage in the garage".
Oh Maddie... you really don't know what you want, do you?! I mean, the man you love comes running after you and yells he wants to talk to you, and you run away?! You thwart him just like you did before in your office when you cut him off while he was trying to speak, like the pre-previous evening at dinner, when you declared the meeting was over in spite of knowing he was about to tell you something important...
And then, when you see him walking away, bleeding, destroyed, devastated - you let him just walk away??
Sam - complaining afterward that he feels like he's been cast as the bad guy... well, what can I say?? Luke, you're a mastermind!! And Maddie: "Nobody's asking you anything!"
David - this moment he surely thinks ok, that's it, we're through. Obviously (and luckily), later he changed his mind and went to Maddie's place. And I don't buy it he went there just to apologize - what for, BTW? ;D
7. Regarding the deleted parts of the bar scene...do they make Maddie's dilemma any more understandable?
I think we knew alread what her dilemma was about. But it's nice how it's put in the deleted part. Ah, I'd just like to point something out: like (I think) every girl I like to keep my shape best as I can, but - I really despise the white stuff in the coffee; I love my coffee with fat, smooth, creamy milk - the greasier, the better! Phew - just gotta get that outta my system! ;D
8. I can't really dissect the final scenes...let's just talk about them.
Oh boy, I gotta get to work tomorrow! OK, I'll give it a shot.
First, it was clear that the person in the bed couldn't be Sam - David had to be somewhere around, so odds were pretty good that he'd be the one waiting.
Second - OK, frankly, in Maddie's shoes (that's if she'd been wearing some) I wouldn't have jumped on the occasion either at first. What you don't believe that? I'm appalled, folks!! Come on, that was a bit too much Sam's gone, and we're here and just lying in the bed and waiting... for what? For her to say ah, what the hell, you're right, I'll take you then?? Nah, that's indeed a bit too smug, fella. Me, I would have required at least a c'mere! ;D
Maddie - denial at her best! He hasn't said a word? Well, Blondie, you did your best to bar him from doing so! And then - he has said as much as you did, just going at your pace: I hate you - I know, I hate you too, I've always hated you.
You haven't had a chance to make a choice? Ah, cowpatties!! You have, Blondie, and you did! Weren't you about to tell the rat bastard you couldn't be with him because you love David?
I know I have read in some thread that this scene made some people uncomfortable because it looked like domestic abuse to them. What?? Sorry to say that, but to feel this way about this scene looks to me like they haven't captured the essentials of ML at all! Two years of constant fighting, yelling, bantering, bickering, denying, hating, caring, itching without scratching, dancing around each other, upbuilding sexual and emotional tension - were they supposed to end up with just as much as flowers and candles? With two characters like those? Please.
There simply couldn't have been any other way to bring them together than in a huge, forceful, passionate eruption! Does a volcano just burp after centuries of growling and bubbling? There you are. Ask Pompeii.
Just like you see your own life right before your death (and we know what death is a metaphor for, right? We know what's called the small death, don't we?), the whole history of their relationship was summed up in their final fight: they accused each other of things that they had put behind them a long time ago (just superficial, no culture, no looking beyond the facade...).
The bitch/bastard? Just fit in. The slaps? Definitely needed as an ignition.
The kiss? Hey! Where's my cigarette?! (Did I mention I'm a non-smoker?)
Well, I surely don't feel like dissecting this scene, but this was just perfectly choreographed. Some people complained it was too rough, too violent, to quick, not tender enough.
Question: have we seen the same scene??? Because I saw two people moving at the same time after speaking volumes with their eyes; they did so deliberatley and, yes, slowly and were absolutely at the same level - OK, he pulled her slightly, but she followed eagerly and leaned in for the kiss contemporaneously. As soon as he released her wrist to embrace her, she fell onto him and embraced him as well. That was definitely a mutual effort.
Tenderness? What would you call the way he cradles her head in his elbow? The looks they gave each other in the close-ups? The smiles? OMG, the touching of their foreheads in the freeze frame??
You despise the rolling around? Well, what can I say - these things happen when you got carried away by passion, don't they?
No, this scene is just perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Puts this ep definitely on my top 6 list, I'm just curious... in which place it will be...?
9. Bruce has remarked in an interview that during the final bed scene, David says, "I love you, Maddie." Big question.......can you see it? Does it make a difference to you?
Honestly?? I can see he moves his lips to say something, but if I didn't know for sure he said it, I think I wouldn't be sure. Big secret for ever to me why they chose to put the music over it (although Be My Baby is the perfect choice for this scene; the rhythm mathces their rhythm).
Does it make a difference? Let me put it this way: it's not necessary for me to hear the words to know how he feels - we've been knowing that for a long time. But it does make a difference - it shows that he is ready and willing to open up, show his vulnerability, give himself completely to Maddie and to the relationship that's to come, inspite of the delusions he has experienced. He shows that he has no fear of flying, that he's ready to make a commitment and that he trusts Maddie not to ripe his heart out. Great.
10. What's your reaction every time you hear "Be My Baby"?
An instant, mad, desperate, irrepressible urge to... smoke.
