I have a couple of questions; one similar to Diane's, but from Maddie's POV. 1. Why does Maddie interrupt David's attempt to explain why they should discuss the proposal? What do you think would have followed, "Why? Why? Maddie, I..." 2. What did Maddie plan to do/hope to find in David's office before discovering the disaster within? I'm going to come back for question 1 but question 2 I'll tackle now. I believe Maddie just wanted to feel David's essence. It takes me to, I think it's "Knowing Her" (could be mistaken), when she sat in David's office and twirled around his magnifying glass. That scene touched me; although their time together had become scarce, she desired to be near to David, even if by default. In this case, again, Maddie is attempting to feel the essence of David, to see where his head is... to feel him out as if telepathically. Maddie found out a great deal when she entered David's partially barricaded office. (I always found it funny that Maddie didn't hear the commotion. Did I miss her exit Blue Moon after the confrontation in her office? )

~What's your reaction every time you hear "Be My Baby"? I want to slap the nearest standing man twice and then do a little glass breaking on the floor No but seriously, I just grin like crazy First off I would like to say... "Hi Missaddy", next I would like to congratulate you on this stellar response!!! Priceless and hella entertaining, what a visual! Would you believe they played this song on the oldies station I listen to today!!?? They were talking about how it was #2 on the top 10 for 3 weeks in 1963 and could never quite make it to #1. I was grinnin' and singin' along!!

I just flipped back over to the Get Back Upstairs thread....golly.
I don't know if they could have gotten away with the belt deal, but boy that stage direction was quite, er, interesting.
I'm thinking the actual filmed scenes might have been a bit different if Bruce's shoulder, and Cybill's pregnancy intervened.
One final thing...right before the goodbye grope, when Maddie sheds her duds...looks like she went Britney long before that became popular, eh? I mean just the jacket and the dress and boom...starkers.

I noticed that too...one of those weird ML clothing moments--sorta the bookend to when Sam tucks her in with not only her coat on, but her shoes as well!!

Yes you are right they probably wouldnt have gotten away with it and thats why it wasnt there in the finished scene. But it's in our heads now LOL! I always thought about that scene too with Maddie undressing for who she thought was SAM , she had nothing under her clothes? LOL

It gets me every time like huh? She could have sat on the bed and slipped her shoe off or better yet, Sam could have done that for her HAHAHAHA

6. Give us your interpretation of "The barrage in the garage" What will always frustrate me is that David does not communicate his feelings the way he should when opportunities arise (his apartment, Maddie's office). True, he has already been thwarted by Sam twice, and the garage makes it three times. But David also has a problem of getting in his own way when it comes to expressing his emotions and putting his best foot forward, at least in this arc. We've seen David have a tendency to unleash anger and frustration on bathroom fixtures and office furniture. Without a faucet or desk to turn to, David unleashes on the other someone in his way, Sam. I feel terribly sad and disappointed when David resorts to physical violence, angry at the over-the-top manner with which Sam reciprocates. In my book, this reveals once and for all that Sam's Number One Priority, as others have stated, is winning. But in winning by physical dominance over David, he begins to lose favor with Maddie as we come to see when she asks whether it really matters who started it. Sam claiming it was merely self-defense? Come on. What torture it was seeing David laying face-down on the concrete, looking completely defeated: "I just wanted to talk to her." We are reminded how deeply insecure he is, as he repeatedly attempts and fails to confess his feelings while at the same time keeping in mind the real possibility of losing Maddie. 7. Regarding the deleted parts of the bar scene...do they make Maddie's dilemma any more understandable? They make clear what Maddie sees in Sam, those wonderful qualities any woman wants in a husband. We also get the idea that she's not in love with him, as she should be if considering spending her life with him. But Maddie feels safe with Sam, which is of the utmost importance. Her dilemma concerns whether choosing the person she's in love with, who she's still not sure returns the favor, is worth the risk of losing the one she feels safe with. Maddie must try to remember that those qualities she mentioned about Sam reside in David as well, just in a more unique way. And with David she would share a life full of passion and adventure. I must digress...I'm reminded of Patrick Swayze 20 years ago describing his relationship with wife Lisa: "Our fights are huge but our love is huge." Oh how that describes Maddie & David.

As for the slaps - I absolutely love this scene, I can't imagine it being done in a different way. But I have no idea what could've been going on in the brains of our two favourite characters (David's in particular) that they assumed that after slapping/being slapped twice the kiss wouldn't go with a third one. If anyone has any ideas for their thoughts please share (Today at school I reminded myself how you guys were discussing David saying that he doesn't want to throw himself at Maddie and I think it was jpen who came up with a brilliant line about tearing up the toga - I giggled through the entire history class ;D)

Thanks, missaddy! ;D
5. Agnes and Bert...aren't they the cutest ever? Why is their relationship so uncomplicated?
As others have said, they're not afraid to display their feelings...as when Sam shows up at the office, and Brave Sir Bert guards the citadel against another onslaught of "Hunk City" charm:
"Take the beltway around this one, bucko. The scenic route is out!"
What fair maiden could resist such a champion? ;D ;D

8. I can't really dissect the final scenes...let's just talk about them. One thing I really love about this scene is how it brings Maddie and David's relationship full circle. In the 2 1/2 years they have known each other, they have moved far beyond these initial presumptions, which is why it's so funny (and somehow perfect) that they bring them up here. It's almost as though each of them has run out of reasons why they shouldn't love the other...so they grab at all the old ammunition to keep the fight going. Bravo, jen. Excellent response. What I find so ironic is that Maddie can't stop haranguing this entire episode about how pointless David, his feelings, opinions, and their arguments are. In actuality, each argument over the past 2 1/2 years has revealed some measure of pertinent information. This argument in particular reveals every reason they are afraid to be together. What they forget is that those reasons don't hold water anymore; both have changed in significant ways. 9. Bruce has remarked in an interview that during the final bed scene, David says, "I love you, Maddie." Big question.......can you see it? Does it make a difference to you? Back then I could see his lips moving, but not much else. To this day, it's still hard to tell and what helps is 1)Bruce insisting he said it, and 2)David and Maddie's reference to it in "To Heiress Human." It makes a difference in my mind because David knows that's what Maddie needs to hear, and this is definitely the right place and the right time to say it. He finally has her all to himself, in his arms, without anything-or anyone-standing in his way. David wants to make sure the words are out there before moving onto the advanced stages of consummation. He knows Maddie wants to feel safe with him, and judging from the Tess story in "Big Man...", David will feel safe with her too.

4. Why can't David express his feelings to Maddie during their confrontation? I think he's just been through so much the past few days, after what transpiered between M/D last night at his APT he was feeling good, now he feels crushed and pissed too. SO he backs down due to those reasons and Sams cvisit too probably. He feels like Sam has won her already. When push comes to shove they just cant open thier mouths and say what they feel, maybe if Maddie slapped him in the office it would have been different LOL Well we know when she saved that for Agnes and Bert...aren't they the cutest ever? Why is their relationship so uncomplicated? They are like 2 peas in a pod, they are so alike ,they are on the same page ,they are total oppasites from D/M and well they are just great together! 6. Give us your interpretation of "The barrage in the garage". Yes Dave swung first but Sam beat the crap out of him ,i think he went way beyond ,poor Dave didnt deserve it, Sam could have tired to stop David after that but in stead he played mr macho, and well when Maddie came back she saw how bad David looked and Sam didnt look bad at all so she new Sam really went overboard on David. She goes right to David to see if he's ok but David doesnt want her pity & he probably felt embarrassed Regarding the deleted parts of the bar scene...do they make Maddie's dilemma any more understandable? Love the deleted scenes in the bar, Agnes is so awesome isnt she? 9. Bruce has remarked in an interview that during the final bed scene, David says, "I love you, Maddie." Big question.......can you see it? Does it make a difference to you? I was so happy to see it written in an interview so yeah my little brown eyes see it LOL Since Bruce says its there i beleive what i think i see LOL and feel better , yes it should have been said out loud cause yes Maddie needed to hear it and so did we! and then you know the conversation in HEIRESS proves it in the office too that morning after. 10. What's your reaction every time you hear "Be My Baby"? (Do not include the current horrid use in Cialis commericals!!!) When i hear this song i think of one thing and one thing only LOL It takes me back to March 31 1987 SIGH!

My dad owns an oldies CD that has the song; everytime I hear it I need a cigarette and a cold shower . I also made an oldies mix tape ages ago for him that just happens to have 3 ML songs on it, back-to-back: "Since I Fell for You" by Lenny Welch; "Ooh Baby Baby" by Linda Rondstadt ("The Next Murder You Hear"); and "Crazy" by Patsy Cline.
