6) The Claymation sequence is a stroke of genius for this time in television history. What, if anything, do you think of this scene's significance?
I love this scene. I think Bruce does a fantastic job acting to "nothing". The signficance of this scene? It gives David the opportunity to say all those things to Maddie that he didn't have the chance to tell her on the phone. We hear him trying to convince her that they have to solve this together, that they can work it all out if they try. It also tries to shed light on Maddie's point of view and to take away some of the "bad guy" image that her departure caused...especially her words at the end. Can't remember right now if she says she loves him or misses him, but in any case, I believe the attempt was to soften her a bit.

The Claymation is fabulous....although I have to admit, I felt a little creepy having the hots for a frog with amazing green eyes.
It was a really good way to have a M&D scene without Maddie and David......there were far too many scenes in which Cyb and Bruce could not be in the same room......this one was special.
So the characters got to say what we needed to hear each of them say.....in a unique and very cutting edge way.

8) "Why shouldn't you get a chance? Why shouldn't any two people get a chance?" From this comment on, please discuss the range of emotions David displays through the end of this episode. After the attempted Bimmercide, and the surprise in seeing Chase/Melissa, he went from a magnanimous jesture so they can be together, to a feeling of "why couldn't that be us" to funny David in flipping the keys to Bert to doubting David ("stupid") to emotionally exhausted David, in his chair at his desk. Wow. You took my answer, gray. I am with you on this one. By the way, I can't let the night go by without giving your avatar a "2 thumbs up!". Outstanding.

7) What is the purpose of David smashing the Bimmer until its damn near unrecognizable? What does the Bimmer symbolize in David's eye's?
The symbolism here really isn't what I look at. I think the real importance here is that David totally loses control.....sure, it is over a reminder of Maddie, and the damage is inflicted on her car....
But I think in a strange way...it drives home some of Maddie's concerns about David....that he can lose control this way.
And I really think it serves as a wake up call for him........I think the end when he slumps against the door and mutters...'so stupid"......is amazingly powerful.

I think I may have already answered this.....but that statement ties up the Cinderella story.
Even more telling...and just plain painful to me is his comment..."And they all lived happily ever after....big deal".

I have a question: In the opening scene, when David tells Agnes that he's finally "got her"...does he really believe it?
No way, no how. A prime example of big D's false bravado.

Am I missing an inside joke? Why are we calling Maddie's mother Candy?

diane, it's a reference to the last scene between Maddie and her mom in Every Daughter's Father is a Virgin. Virginia waxes philosophical about holding onto things in life that are good, right, and meant to be. She finishes the monologue with, "Your mother philosopherrrr...'Candy' Hayes...wasn't there an actor with that name?" and then segues into what's troubling Maddie. So, I suppose it's being used here as an affectionate nod to "Candy's" intuitiveness.

While watching this scene, "I Miss You" by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes (premiering in a fanfic near you soon) happened on my playlist & it totally fit the feeling that Bruce conveyed as he (David) cried cuffed inside the fold of his arms. *sigh* I felt like cussing (I probably did), it hurt me as it had the day this episode premiered that Tuesday night so long ago. DId i read right? A fanfic coming soon? OH i sure hope so! YAY! LOL

3. When Maddie arrives at her parents home, a conversation ensues which contains information for each of this two-parter.
b) Mr. Hayes makes several assumptions regarding David, Mrs. Hayes interrupts his dialogue between "two business people". Why is this?
So when Dad starts questioning Maddie, the facial expressions of both Mom and Maddie are priceless. Mom tried to head him off........much in the same way that Agnes tries to shut Bert up in the earlier scene. Mr. Hayes is truly overjoyed to have her home.......but puzzled because he is thinking like a business man.......seems to me that although he truly loves his daughter, Mrs. Hayes is the one who does most of the normal communicating with Maddie...and then relates the conversations to her husband......which is something pretty typical in communicating with adult children, I think.
This definitely added something more to the whole meaning of this scene vs the scene with Maddie & Candy in the car. No longer do I view these as separate entities, it's really one long scene. I re-watched the scene with your response in mind paying more attention to how each parent communicates with her, their differences in communicating with Maddie. It allows me to understand Maddie's way of thinking a bit more.

Am I missing an inside joke? Why are we calling Maddie's mother Candy? In Season 2, ep. 19 EDFIAV when Mrs. Hayes and Maddie met for breakfast after the fallout, she referred to herself as "Candy" Hayes. She then asked Maddie wasn't there an actor of the same name and she said "No Mom, that was Gabby Hayes" I always thought it was cute, Virginia is so formal. PS. & Yeah, what Witness said ;D

I would have gladly nodded to your response because it is so much clearer than mine LOL~
